1 INTRODUCTION TO PATHWAYS To help students and parents with choosing courses f next year, the Student Services counsels have created Pathways. We encourage students to choose their courses thoughtfully. Our goal is f each student at Windham High School to earn a high school diploma and to be prepared f the next step in their education. We wk with students to identify their interests and aptitudes and to use that infmation to develop individual goals f higher education. We believe every student can prepare f a college degree program. Some students may choose a two-year, associate degree program and others may choose a four-year, bachel degree program. Students may choose to go to wk the military after high school, but we encourage them to take courses that will prepare them to take advantage of educational opptunities in the future. To assist students and parents with their educational planning school counsels have developed Pathways. Pathways are suggested courses which will allow a student to accomplish three imptant goals:. To meet graduation requirements. To meet college entrance requirements. To exple career college maj choices Naviance is a wonderful tool that helps counsels wk with students to exple their interests and determine how they fit in the wld of wk. Each Pathway includes a list of the various Naviance Career Clusters f students to use as a starting point. We have developed Pathways in four broad career areas. They are Arts and Communication, Business and Office technology, Engineering, technology and science and Health & human services. s are suggestions as if you had asked your counsel what to take to meet your higher education and career goals. A list of sample careers accompanies each pathway and will help students and parents identify which pathway is most appropriate f the individual student. Within each career area we have designed a pathway f students who are interested in pursuing a -year bachel degree and a pathway f students who wish to pursue a -year associate degree. We encourage all students to keep options open and take the most challenging courses they can handle. The Pathways can serve as a guide, but they should not limit a student s course selections. Below each Pathway is a list of recommended explaty electives which should help students exple their chosen career area and give them a chance to see if those careers interest them. In addition to recommended electives, the Pathways also include recommended vocational programs and seni options that are available to all Windham High School students. We hope students and parents find Pathways useful as a guide to their educational planning and encourage them to meet with their school counsel to review their plans and make adjustments f their individual goals as they move through high school towards higher education.
