22 HESA Recognition Statement The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and Certificate are fully recognized for university admission in South Africa as reflected in the government gazette no.: 31674, vol. 522 of 5 December According to this gazette, a candidate with IB school exit qualification will, on application be issued with an exemption certificate if he/she meets one of the following criteria: a) International Baccalaureate Diploma with 24 points, or b) Two higher level and three standard level pass towards International Baccalaureate Certificate with pass mark of 4 to 7. 26 College readiness and persistence (US) DP graduates reported gaining key skills that helped them in college: time management, critical thinking problem-solving and research skills Compared to a representative sample, a greater proportion of DP students persisted through college.

28 I believe that as humans we have the ethical responsibility to leave our society better than how we found it. This is the only way for us to keep moving forward. However, as I completed the IB diploma, I was very thankful to have been able to do it, as it helped shape me into the person I am today We forget that school isn t only about academics it s about shaping the next generation, and many schools these days lack courses that allow students to become well-rounded people Catherine Franklin, IB Alumna
