2 Wall of Champions Program The purpose of the Wall of Champions program is to honor Salem High School s top student-athletes, coaches, administrators and teams who have made a positive impact on the local community, earned success on and off the field and who serve as role models for today s student-athletes. The Wall of Champions will create an increased awareness and pride at Salem High School. 4th Class Inductees

Our facilities have not changed since 1970, but our programming and participation has doubled. Donations can be made at the EEF table located in the back of the gym or on our website. WALL OF CHAMPIONS 5th CLASS The nomination window for the 5th class is now open. You may nominate candidates through our website. This class will be honored in the fall of Details coming soon!

4 Lifetime Achievement Award ABOUT THE AWARD: In the spring of 2017, the Wall of Champions Committee determined that the program was in need of an additional, honorary award. This recognition was put in place for those who have served Salem High School in a role other than administrator, coach, or athlete. 1ST RECIPIENT: Scott Beaman s incredible career in Plymouth-Canton Community Schools was the driving force behind the committee s decision to add this honor. Scott was hired in September of 1966 and served as a teacher, summer school administrator and athletic ticket manager for 50 years before retiring in July of His passion for others was warm and genuine. His drive for perfection and attention to detail was inspiring. We are forever grateful for his dedication to our students and staff. We lost Scott on Thursday, August 31st, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. He was anticipating this event and was looking forward to celebrating with all of you. The award has been named the Scott Beaman Lifetime Achievement Award.

5 Robert Dasher ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Full scholarship to The University of Alabama (Football). Played on 2 National Championship Teams (1978, 1979) Football 4 years, 3 letters, Co-Captain All American, Detroit News Blue Chip Squad, All State Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Associated Press, UPA All Area, All Metro, All Metro West, All Suburban, All League, All Observerland, All Area Ypsi, All Associated News Papers, All Area Associated Press Wrestling 4 years, 3 letters, Co-Captain 3rd in State - Heavyweight All Area, All League NEED QUOTE Track & Field 4 years, 3 letters, Co-Captain All State Discus (6th) All Area Honors

6 ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Tim Dillon Football Earned 2 varsity letters Co-Captain Senior Year All State 1st Team, All League Senior Year State Champions Baseball Earned 2 varsity letters Senior Year State Champions Basketball Earned 2 varsity letters Senior Year District Champions, Regional Champions Tim walked on to Miami University and earned a full scholarship. He started as a senior and earned team honors as a defensive back. Tim Dillon was the consummate three sport athlete for Plymouth-Salem. He helped the Rocks win two state championships in baseball and football. He was a great teammate. -Tom Willette, former Salem Baseball Player and Athletic Director

7 Brian Gilles ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Volleyball Coached from Division Championships 5 League Championships 1 Regional Championship Won 332, Lost 87, Tied 21 Winning: 79.36% Baseball Coach from League Championships 2 District Championships 1 Regional Championship 1 Final Four Appearance Won 137, Lost 61 Winning: 69% I m not sure that you could find one single person that played baseball for Brian Gilles that did not enjoy the experience and become a better player. -Tom Willette, former Salem Baseball Player and Athletic Director

8 Frederick Locke ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Swim & Dive 1994 Season 50m Free: State Champion, All-State, All-American 200m Free Relay: State Champions, All-State, All American 100 Free: 3rd in State, All- State Team Conference Champions, placed 6th overall at State Championships Fred Locke as a senior at Plymouth salem had one goal to be an MHSAA State Champion in the 50 yard freestyle. Fred never lost sight of his goal with many challenges throughout the season. Fred trained and competed knowing that the State Finals was the only race. Fred won the 50 and finished 3rd in the Charles Olson, Fred s Swim Coach

9 Jacqueline Merrifield ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Basketball 4 year letter winner Free Press All Suburban Team, Captain All Metro, 1st Team Detroit News, 1st Team All State, 2nd Team Volleyball 4 year letter winner Soccer 2 year letter winner Jacqueline played in 100 career basketball games started 95 total games and won 80% of them Attended Hillsdale College on a basketball and volleyball scholarship Jacqueline was a talented and tough basketball player that was always at her best when the team needed her. In all of my years, she was one of the best competitors I ever coached. -Bob Blohm, former Salem Basketball Coach

10 Kim Miller ACCOMPLISHMENTS: 3 year letter winner (90, 91, 93) All League 1st Team (90, 91, 93) Regional Champ (90, 91, 93) State Champ All Around (90) State Champ Bars (90) Member of 1993 State Championship Team Nationals 2nd Place All Around (93) Full ride to Eastern Michigan All Around and Bars School Record Holder (current) Kim was the first freshman at Plymouth Salem to ever win an MHSAA State Title. Kim miller made such an impact on her gymnastics team. Not only did she lead them to an MHSAA State Championship, but she also established two school scoring records that have never been broken. Her passion for gymnastics has never waned, through college and into the high school coaching ranks at Farmington (where her teams won three State Championships in a row.) -John Cunningham, Canton HS Gymnastics Coach

11 Jeff Roth ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Belongs to the following Hall of Fames: Michigan Golf, Michigan PGA, University of Arizona Jeff has won over 70 Professional Golf Events. Tied 1st for most Michigan PGA sanctioned Majors NEED QUOTE

12 LaTonya Wheeler ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Track & Field 1990 All Conference 1991 Conference Champion (400m, 800m) All Conference State Qualifier (400m) 1992 Conference Champion (200m, 400m, 4x2, 4x4) Regional Champion (400) State Qualifier (400m, 4x200, 4x400) State Champion (400m) - All State 1993 Team Captain Conference Champion, Regional Champion and State Qualifier (400m, 4x200, 4x400) State Champion (400m), 2nd Place (4x4), 4th Place (4x2) - All State Earned a full scholarship to Lincoln University, MO Tonya was an extremely hard worker and led by example. She was a great competitor and refused to lose, as evident in her two state championships. -Jay Blaylock, former Salem Track & Field Coach Current school record holder in the 400m (57.2) and 4x200 Relay (1:44)

14 1977 Football Team ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Undefeated, Suburban 8 Champs Salem: Averaged 21 pts and yards/game Opponents: Averaged 7.3 pts and yards / game 9-1 Overall The 77 football team was like men playing against boys. 18 Fundraising Campaign The Wall of Champions program serves as a fundraising campaign for facility upgrades specific to the Salem Athletic Department. Since opening in 1970, our facilities have seen little change and our programming has near doubled. In summer of 2017, our Wall of Champions funds assisted the P-CCS Bond work that was done in the gym to bring the facility back to life. Upcoming projects include: weight room expansion, coaches locker room renovations and large scale outdoor projects in partnership with the district.
