ADMINISTRATION OF DAMAN & DIU ACHIEVEMENTS & ACTIVITIES UNDER MAJOR DEVELOPMENTAL SCHEMES (For the month of October 2014) The Union Territory Administration is committed towards providing an inclusive development to the population residing in the territory. A number of schemes for creation and upgradation of physical infrastructure and towards improving the socio-economic status of the citizens are being implemented by the U.T. Administration. The progress in this regard during the month of October, 2014 is highlighted below. A. Progress under Infrastructural Developmental Works : (i) Major Works completed during the month of October, 2014: Construction of 4 Nos. of C type Quarter near Treatment Plant at Ghoghla, Diu has been completed at a cost of Rs lakh. Construction of 6 Nos. of additional Class room for Govt. Higher Secondary School (girls) at Ghoghla, Diu has been completed at a cost of Rs lakh. Construction of RCC Cycle track from Hotel Kohinoor to Malala Junction and Govt. House to Kevdi at Diu has been completed at a cost of Rs lakh. Construction of Cement concrete pavement over newly constructed platform at Ghoghla, Diu has been completed at a cost of Rs lakh. B. Progress under Individual beneficiaries Oriented Schemes during the month of October, 2014: A number of schemes for the benefit of individuals are being implemented by the Administration, in which assistance in cash/kind is being provided by way of scholarship, pension, subsidy, loan, advances etc. The progress in this regard in various sectors during the month of October, 2014 is as follows: Page 1

2 Agriculture Pulses Seed has been distributed to 205 Nos. of SC/ST/Small & Marginalized (SM) farmers on 50% subsidy. Sprayer Pumps has been distributed to the 8 Nos. of SC/ST/SM farmers on 50% subsidy. Tools / Implements set (01 beneficiary) and Agriculture machineries like paddy thresher, winnowing fan, submersible water pump (09 beneficiaries) has been distributed to SC/ST/SM farmers on 50% subsidy. Crop Husbandry Tractors facility has been provided to 21 farmers on subsidy for Agriculture operations. Education Provided nutritious food to about students (Std. I to VIII) under Mid- Day Meal scheme. Development of SC/ST/OBC Cash incentive of Rs lakh released to parents of SC/ST boy students. Cash incentive of Rs lakh released to parents of SC/ST girl students. Health Financial assistance released for a total of Rs lakh to 50 Mothers under Matru Samrudhi Yojana (MSY) Rs.5000/- to each beneficiary. LIC Jeevan Kishor (One time deposit) policy of Rs. 41,800/- has been made in the name of 21 girl child under Dikri Development Scheme (DDS). ICDS Provided nutritious food to 6565 Children (06 months to 06 years). Provided Food grain to1705 pregnant women & lactating / nursing Mothers. Provided nutritious food to 732 Adolescent Girls School Going. Provided nutritious food to 201 Adolescent Girls Out of School. Page 2

3 C. Organisation of important Events during the month of October, 2014: Sports District Level inter school cricket tournament for under 19- Girls and Boys was organised by the Sports Department. Training of badminton was given to under 14, 17 and 19 students of various schools at Diu. Bal Bhavan Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated on 2 nd October, 2014 at Municipal Garden, Jetty, Nani Daman. About 60 students were participated in activities such as Sarv Dharm Prathna, Bapuji s Bhajan etc. Gandhi Jayanti Sandhya was organised at Vivekanand Auditorium, Daman in which Bal Bhavan children has performed favorite Bhajans of Mahatma Gandhi. Bal Bhavan chess team had participated in open South Gujarat Chess championship on 5 th October, 2014 at Navasari, Gujarat. Bal Bhavan, Daman has organised cultural integration camp from 28 th October, 2014 to 30 th October, 2014 at Daman in which 150 students of Daman & Diu Tourism and Dadra & Nagar Haveli were participated in the camp. Installation of 3 unit Portable restroom of size 3.5 x 4 fit on Tailor Platform at Devka Beach, Daman. Installation of RCC Hume Pipe Dustbin with Decorative painting at various places at Daman. Education Allocation of Rs. 20,000/- to each 11 Govt. Higher Secondary Schools at Diu has been transferred for purchase of sports equipment under RMSA. Allocation of Rs. 3,000/- to each 11 Govt. Higher Secondary Schools at Diu has been transferred for Self Defense Training to the Girls. Book Fair was organised on under RMSA at Daman. Science Exhibition was organised under RMSA at Daman. 4 Health Mental Health Day was organised on 10 th October, Health professionals and primary health care providers were sensitized on various aspects of Mental Health Act and removal of negative believes about the mental health illness. Food safety awareness camp was organised on 10 th October, 2014 at Diu in which Hotel Staff were sensitize on various food safety issues. Industries A Combined application form is also being introduced to facilitate single window clearances for industry including those involving regulatory compliances of labor, pollution, and environment. Redundant procedures are being done away with and a strong thrust is being given to simplification of procedures. D. Recruitment (Appointment /Promotion) made during the month. 132 Police Constables were issued joining Memorandum and have been sent for Basic Training at Jhaloda Kalan, New Delhi. E. Law and Order. After analysis of crime pattern and accident cases of last 5 years, PCR patrolling has been revamped to curb crime effectively in the UT of Daman resulting in 35 % overall decrease in Heinous crimes compared to Traffic drives initiated frequently with emphasis on minor driving. Black films/tinted glasses, Defective/without number plate, Triple riding, without helmet. Special emphasis against drunken driving and action initiated to cancel their driving licenses. All 19 Servers and other infrastructure required at Alternate Data Centre of UTs of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli (which is presently located at Goa) have been installed and all the required 9 Servers and other infrastructure have been delivered and installed at Disaster Recovery Centre (DRC) located at NIC- Hyderabad site. Separate initiatives have also been taken with respect to Capacity Building and Change Management (CB & CM) Workshop for training of all the Police Page 4

5 Personnel in Daman & Diu under Crime & Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) and following is the list of the training programs that are being administered as part of CB & CM activity. Awareness and sensitization of benefits of IT. Basic Computer Awareness & Role based training for application users. Training of Trainers. System Administration & Support Training. English Speaking and Typing Course. Behavioural, Attitudinal and Change Management Training. Passport Mela was held in PHQ, Dunetha on 18 th and 19 th October, 2014 in which 218 applications were received out of which 166 applicants availed the services and saved a trip to Mumbai.
