3 Oxford Science Studies was founded in 1997 by a group of tutors from the University of Oxford. We are the only organisation in the UK to offer residential revision courses for the majority of subjects at GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A-Level during the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays. Offering six courses a year, we also offer non-residential revision courses during the school half-term breaks. Each year, we offer the following courses (for specific course dates and information visit our website: Spring Half Term: Easter Holiday: Summer Half Term: Summer Holiday: October Half Term: Christmas Holiday: 1 to 9 days in February 1, 2 or 3 weeks in March/April 1 to 5 days in May/June 1, 2 or 3 weeks in August 1 to 9 days in October/November 1 to 6 days in December & 2-4 days in January Despite their best intentions, few students possess the will power and discipline to achieve much effective work during the holidays, and the threat of impending exams can cast a shadow over what should be a relaxing and enjoyable time. Our revision courses are short intensive courses of tuition, revision and exam practice run by expert tutors, revision specialists and examiners in an environment geared towards concentrated study, away from all distractions. With the recent shake up of the A-Level system leaving students with the daunting reality of all important exams at the end of their two years of study, continued, focused revision proves an efficient use of the holiday period.

4 Location: Our half-term courses are nonresidential and take place at our partner organisation, Oxford International College, Oxford ( which offers individual and mini-group tuition all year round. Typically, our residential revision courses take place at St. Edward s School (an independent boarding school set in grounds of 110 acres in the city of Oxford), occasionally at another Oxford University College, or Oxford International College. Most students are residential, but we also welcome day students (approximately 9.00am 5.00pm). Subjects available: This is not an exhaustive list, please contact us to ask about any other subjects. All subjects are dependent on the availability at the time of application. Biology (incl. Human) Business Studies Chemistry Classical Civilisation Economics English Language English Literature French Geography German Government & Politics History Latin Maths Physics Psychology Spanish A-Level and GCSE Reforms: As not all specifications are being reformed in 2015, some students may be taking a mixture of the AS/A2, and also the new reformed AS/A-Level qualifications. Students can choose subjects from both specifications whilst studying with us. Students following the newly reformed 2015 A-Levels can select a combination of AS and A2 units from one or more subjects. Students following the new 2015 A-Level reform can select a combination of papers and subjects. IB students can select a combination of Standard and Higher level subjects. The 'combined science' (double/dual award) I/GCSE should be considered as three separate subjects which may be taken individually. Study Skills: During Easter and summer revision courses, students have scheduled Study Skills seminars. The seminars may cover topics such as: Time management Prioritising and deadlines Personal study plans Note taking Essay techniques Concentration and breaks Effective use of resources Memory skills Stress management Revision techniques techniques

5 Timetables: For students to make the most of their time with us, we do not timetable more than 6 students to a class. Tutors will set work for the students to complete after each tutorial which are known as exam practice sessions. This allows students to get the tailored help they require The average class size across all of our courses is 2 students Lessons will go ahead even if there is only 1 student enrolled in that particular class Our courses are very specific, students can select the specific subjects/papers/units they need help with, creating a bespoke course for each student We aim to timetable the course around you, not the other way around Students can take a combination of subjects with us, they are not simply limited to 1 subject per week Many of our customers are referred to us by previous students and parents, who happily recommend us to their friends and family Many Easter revision courses are offered by large schools or tutorial colleges whose main focus is full-time education, and for whom the Easter revision courses are a small side business. At Oxford Science Studies, we specialise only in revision courses and all of our efforts and resources are focussed on delivering the highest quality courses to our students. Who teaches on the courses? We have brought together a core of tutors who we believe are the best in the business. Many are full-time tutors from our partner organisation Oxford International College, as well as professional private tutors and researchers from Oxford University, private tutorial colleges and schools. Some of our tutors are examiners, and many are Oxford graduates who know what it takes to achieve top grades. This does not mean that we cater only for the high flyers. Many of our tutors are currently, or have been, involved in academic research at university level, which often enables them to bring special insight and enthusiasm to their subject!

7 Why attend a revision course? Students at any stage of their GCSEs, IGCSEs, IB or A-Levels can attend our revision courses, as long as they are aged 14+ and are fluent in English. Our students come from a whole variety of backgrounds. We have students who have their main education in private schools, state schools and even at home. Students of all abilities and from all over the world attend. We usually have a fairly equal mix of both genders on each course. Most students come by themselves, however some do come with siblings or school friends.
