Course Levels The Level-1 Student: Is a hard worker who takes pride in quality work On-level Level 1 = 75+ spring semester avg. in 6 th grade level 1 OR 85+ yearly avg. in 6 th grade on-level and parent permission (please see add l. information for on-level to level 1 Math) Horizons = Must meet test qualifications & have parent permission (testing is done in February) Is willing to work hard outside of class so the class time can be spent on more than the basics Wants to be prepared for more difficult High School courses Enjoys a challenge in his or her reading, writing and thinking Removal From Level-1 Courses D semester average A grade of F for any grading period Parent removal - at end of grading period (progress report or report card) Level-1 Math Rule If student is not in Level-1 Math this school year and wants to be in Level 1 Math next year, student must: * make a grade of 85+ in on-level math (consider teacher/counselor advisement) and * attend Summer School, score 80+ in course, and have parent permission. 3

We only offer the elective courses listed on this registration sheet. Course descriptions and prerequisites are listed in the Course Description Booklet. Students enrolling in a full-year elective are required to stay in the class for a full year. Students may not choose which semester or period to take a course. Off-campus P.E. requires 15 hours per week participation in an Olympic caliber program at an approved facility. Students must have already participated at the facility for at least ten hours per week for two years. Students may come in late or leave early. Completed applications must be submitted before May 1 st. Call the Counselor s office for more information. On this form, assume your child will not attend summer school. If you do sign up for summer school, there will be space on that form where you can indicate course changes. Course verification slips listing all courses and levels will be sent home in May.
