Each January we join with the Ohio School Boards Association to celebrate and recognize our local Boards of Education. As citizens who serve children and represent their communities, individual school board members face complex and demanding challenges. Yet, few people fully understand the scope and far-reaching implications of board members responsibilities. All Ohioans should recognize the vital contributions of these men and women and focus attention on the crucial role these elected public officials play in the education of our children. They make a difference for students.

2 Their job is to establish a vision for the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, assure schools are accountable to the community and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning. School board members come from all walks of life, and while they wear many hats in the workday world, school board members put on a collective hat when they get down to the business of leading their school districts. Board members must pull together as a team toward a common goal helping students achieve. While they may individually disagree on certain issues, their role as a board is to consistently strive toward that goal. Board members contribute hundreds and hundreds of hours each year leading their districts. Their love of learning and concern and caring for students, staff and the community, drive board members desire to lead so students can achieve. It is my pleasure to recognize our board members and to thank them for their service to our district: Mr. Ford Behm with 13 years of service Mr. Edward Brashear with 5 years of service Mr. David Foote with 7 years of service Mr. Richard Trice with 8 years of service Mrs. Jessecca Wilt with 3 years of service 2. RttT Update 3. I recommend the following resolution: RESOLUTION TO SELL SCHOOL PROPERTY AT PUBLIC AUCTION WHEREAS, the Board of Education has determined that the real property located at the following address is no longer necessary for school purposes: 4641 North Ridge East, Geneva, Ohio 44041, which is also identified as Permanent Parcel Number and formerly known as the Spencer Elementary School property, consisting of approximately 8.84 acres of land WHEREAS, the Board of Education has determined that the aforementioned Board property has a fair market value in excess of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00). WHEREAS, the Board of Education has determined that it desires to sell the aforementioned Board property pursuant to R.C WHEREAS, the Board of Education has found that there are no start-up community schools formed under Chapter 3314 of the Ohio Revised Code within the district to whom the Board of Education is otherwise required to offer the aforementioned Board property for sale pursuant to R.C (G).

3 WHEREAS, the Board of Education has determined that it does not desire to sell the aforementioned Board property to any of the entities listed under R.C (C). WHEREAS, the Board of Education has determined that it desires to offer the aforementioned Board property for sale at a public auction on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 12:00 noon at the Board of Education office at 135 S. Eagle Street, Geneva, Ohio pursuant to R.C (A). THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Education shall offer for sale the Board property which has been previously identified herein at a public auction pursuant to R.C (A). BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Education shall publish a notice of the public auction of the aforementioned Board property in a newspaper of general circulation with the publication of said notice to appear in the newspaper of general circulation at least thirty (30) days before the date of the auction pursuant to R.C (A). BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the abovementioned notice to be published shall contain the date, time and place that the public auction to sell the aforementioned Board property shall occur pursuant to R.C (A). BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, therefore, that the aforementioned Board property shall be offered for sale by the Board of Education at public auction to be held at the Board of Education office located at 135 S. Eagle Street, Geneva, Ohio on the 20th day of March, 2013, at 12:00 noon, after giving at least thirty (30) days notice by publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the School District. Such property shall be sold to the highest bidder at such sale, provided however, no bid shall be accepted for less than Fifty Thousand Dollars $50, Furthermore, the Board of Education reserves the right to reject any and all bids, and the offer by the highest bidder at the public auction shall either be accepted or rejected by the Board pursuant to a duly adopted resolution following the date of the public auction, before the sale can become final. The terms of the sale shall be on a cash basis, and the closing of the sale shall be subject further to the Conditions of Sale, a copy of which is on file with the Treasurer of the Board of Education. 4. I recommend that the Board approve the enclosed Agreement of Sale between the Geneva Area City Schools and the City of Geneva. 5. I recommend that the Board approve the enclosed Lease Agreement between the Geneva Area City Schools and the City of Geneva. 6. I recommend that the Board adopt the enclosed amendment to the Sports Facility Agreement between the Geneva Area City Schools and the Geneva area Recreational, Educational, and Athletic Trust (GaREAT). 7. I recommend that the Board approve the enclosed Termination of Use Agreement between the Geneva Area City School District and the Geneva area Recreational, Educational, and Athletic Trust (GaREAT).

I recommend that the Board approve the enclosed Termination of the Ground Lease Agreement between the Geneva Area City School District and the Geneva area Recreational, Educational, and Athletic Trust (GaREAT). 9. I recommend that the Geneva Area City Schools Board of Education continue its membership in the Ohio School Boards Association for The membership amount will be determined by the OSBA dues calculation in the OSBA bylaws, and will include electronic copies of the Briefcase and School Management News subscriptions. 10. I recommend acceptance of the renewal quotation from Governmental Underwriters of America to provide insurance coverage for the District s buildings and contents, fleet, and general liability through the Argonaut Insurance Company. Details will be presented at the meeting. 11. I recommend the following personnel actions for the contact year: a. F.M.L.A. Kathy L. Mullins, Housekeeper, leave of absence from 01/07/13 through 02/04/13. This leave will be designated under the Family Medical Leave Act. Bernadette Zundel, Teacher, leave of absence from 01/03/13 through 01/31/13. This leave will be designated under the Family Medical Leave Act. b. Change of Contract Richard A. Hanyok, 12 mos./year, from Custodian III, High School, 7.5 hrs./day to Custodian II, Austinburg, 7 hrs./day, effective 01/07/13 Edward J. Plesnicar, 12 mos./year, from Custodian II, Geneva Platt R. Spencer, 7 hrs./day to Custodian III, High School, 7.5 hrs./day, effective 01/07/13 c. Temporary Contract Lisa S. Zapp, Bus Driver, 2.5 hrs./day, effective 01/02/13 d. I recommend the hiring of the following personnel on a one-year contract, to be paid according to the adopted wage guidelines, subject to meeting certification requirements of the State of Ohio, as well as a satisfactory physical examination, background check and/or other training, if applicable. 1) Substitute Housekeeper Brian J.
