12 AVID What is AVID? Advancement Via Individual Determination A course designed to prepare students to be college ready. Geared towards students in the academic middle (B/C students) with a desire to go to college and a willingness to work hard. How AVID works: Teaches organizational and study skills to develop critical thinking Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships Creates a positive peer group for students To Enroll: Counselors will be working with middle school AVID teachers & counselors to determine possible candidates and provide them with applications. Please have your student write down AVID as an elective if they would like to be considered.

14 Seal of Biliteracy What is it? Award given to recognize students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation Why it is important? Encourages students to pursue biliteracy Honors the skills students attain Attractive to future employers and college admissions offices How to get it? Successfully complete all Language Arts requirements for graduation with an overall weighted GPA of 2.0 or above earn a score of 3 or 4 on the 11th grade CA state standardized test Demonstrate proficiency by ONE of the following: Pass AP World Language Exam with a score of 3 or higher Successfully complete 4th year of World Language with an overall weighted GPA of 3.0 or above Pass SAT II World Language exam with a score of 600 or higher

21 Freshman Focus Campus What is Freshman Focus Campus? A campus designed to help students with the transition to high school and have a sense of belonging and connectedness to the school and staff in a smaller environment. Freshmen have the option to have break and lunch on the Freshman Focus Campus or join upperclassmen on Main Campus ASB activities and events designed specifically for them Provides students the opportunity to build stronger relationships with grade-level peers

22 Link Crew / Freshmen Thursday, August 18th, 2016 Orientation 8:00 am 12:00 pm Freshmen get linked up with an upper classman who will be their Link Crew Leader for Freshman year. Event includes: Introduction to high school including the do s and don ts Activities with Link Crew Leaders and small group of classmates Guided tour of campus Activities with freshmen and Link Crew Leaders will be held throughout the school year

23 Freshmen Taking Care of Business Friday, August 19th, :00 am - 11:00 am Turn in registration paperwork, have school picture taken, purchase ASB card, PE clothes, yearbook, and spirit wear Students will receive their list of classes Counselors available to see students on a walk-in basis

24 First Day of School Monday, August 29th, 2016 Pick up schedule on Main Campus starting at 7: 15 am Schedule changes will be made for scheduling errors only example: missing a class or incorrect level Freshman schedule change day: designated day for Freshman schedule changes during the first week of school

25 Academic Support For Students Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers, beginning with Back-To-School Night in September Parents can sign up for the monthly Counseling newsletter on the homepage of the EHS website Access to teacher via EHS website Parents & students can access student grades on AERIES/ABI Students seek extra help from teachers on an individual basis Free math tutoring by EHS teachers in the Library (Monday - Thursday 3:00-4:00 p.m.)
