1 Krispy Kreme Sales Update Through the Krispy Kreme doughnut sales, $ was raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation! Thanks everyone for your support! Savannah Moore won 3 rd Place overall and $350 for her piece Healing Hands in the Art of Healing competition presented by Lexington Medical Center and the Columbia Museum of Art. Savannah was the only winner this year from Lexington School District One. Each high school art teacher in Lexington County can submit one piece for this competition. Savannah s art along with two other Lexington High School students will have work on display at the Columbia Museum of art from now until May 19. Attention LHS French Honor Society members: If you are interested in being considered for an officer position for the school year, please pick up an application from F115 by Friday, April 25 come before or after school. Golden Blues Audition Information Auditions for Golden Blues Show Choir will be held after school on Monday, April 28 Friday, May 1 in the Chorus Room. Interested students should sign up in advance with Mr. Calloway in room C-112. The Anime/Manga Club will meet on Wednesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. in D109, Mrs. Cloninger's room. The School Extension for At-Risk Students (SEARS) is a program which allows students to make up unexcused absences. Students who need to attend SEARS should ask their teacher for the appropriate form. The cost is $25 per session. Students may attend two (2) sessions. SEARS will be held on the following dates in the cafeteria: Saturday, May 10 (7:30 11:30 a.m.) SENIORS only Saturday, May 17 (7:30 11:30 a.m.) SENIORS and UNDERCLASSMEN Wednesday, June 4 (12 4 p.m.) UNDERCLASSMEN only Juniors.are you still making decisions on where to apply to college in the Fall of 2014? 2 *****SCHOOL EXCUSES***** Since the end of the school year is a little over a month away, please take the time to look at your child s attendance and turn in any excuses for days that your child was absent. Please do not wait until the last day of school to do this. Excuses should be to be turned in within 3 days once the student returns to school. Remember, your child is allowed 5 absences for semester long classes and 3 absences for 9 week classes. Also remember, parent notes are unexcused and count towards the students 5 or 3 absences. If you have not picked up your LexConnect Code, please do so immediately so that you can check this. Your child can also check their grades and attendance on their ipad. Thank you! Each graduating senior receives twelve (12) tickets. Tickets will be distributed the weeks of April 21 and April 29. Each senior must sign for his or her tickets. 3 Youth Leadership Lexington County This program is designed to let students experience Lexington County. They will participate in team building exercises, including a challenge course at Saluda Shoals Park, visit a farm, local businesses, hospital facilities, participate in a courtroom mock trial and even tour the county jail. This program is for rising juniors and seniors from Lexington County High schools. Applicants must be nominated by a teacher or administrator. The program will be held June Complete the application and return postmarked by May 2. Information and applications can be obtained in the Counseling and Advisement Office. Are you a college-bound junior? If so, you should consider AP Physics for your senior year. There are two basic motivations for taking AP Physics during your senior year: 1. College admissions officers want to see that you have challenged yourself in high school. Success in a challenging course is strong evidence that you can succeed in college. 2. Physics is required for all students who wish to pursue careers in engineering, medicine, or science. In college, pre-medical and technology majors are typically required to take algebra-based physics, while science and engineering majors will study calculus-based physics. Obviously, a college-preparatory physics course is a wise choice for any high-school student considering such majors. Attention College Bound Sophomores and Juniors: IS AP PSYCHOLOGY FOR YOU?? Did you know PSYCHOLOGY 101 is a requirement during Freshman year for the majority of colleges? Why not get a jumpstart on your college courses?? AP Psychology is an amazing course taught right here at LHS. This course is geared toward preparing you to secure a passing score on the AP Psychology exam and earning you college credit. This course also helps to prepare you for the ACT and SAT by enhancing your test taking abilities and sharpening your critical thinking skills. The subject is challenging, but students are given tons of tools to help ensure their success! This class is most appropriate for rising Juniors and Seniors, but mature Sophomores are also encouraged to enroll! (Speak to your counselors regarding enrollment.)
