2 What will my schedule look like? 4 X 4 Block Schedule 4 classes each semester Each class is approximately 90 minutes 2 Semesters - 18 weeks each

3 What will my schedule look like? Students take 2 academics & 2 electives each semester If you receive a schedule with more than two academics in a semester, please let your counselor know ASAP Foreign Language will replace one elective (if taking a Foreign Language)

6 Credit is earned for each class passed (70) at the end of the semester: 1 unit per class passed 4 units per semester 8 units per year

7 Grade Placement 10 th = 5 units & 2nd year of high school 1 Unit of English, 1 Unit of Math, 1 Unit of Science 11 th = 10 units & 3rd year of high school 2 Units of English, 2 Units of Math, 2 Units of Science 12 th = 16 units & 4th year of high school 3 Units of English, 3 Units of Math, 3 Units of Science Graduation = 23 units of credit

8 Grade Placement Due to teacher allotments, students will not be able to double up on classes to make up for failed classes Failing an English, Math, or Science class will result in an extra semester/year in high school or summer school attendance

9 All Freshmen are eligible for extra curricular activities first semester of high school Must pass 3 out of 4 classes every semester to remain eligible Fail 2 classes in the Fall you are ineligible for Spring activities you are also unable to finish any Winter activity Fail 2 classes in the Spring you are ineligible for both Summer and Fall activities

13 GPA and Class Rank GPA and Class rank are calculated at the end of semester not with each 6 week report card Every new freshman starts out with a 0.0 GPA and a class rank of zero

14 High School Credit for Classes taken in Middle School H.S. credit is earned for high school level classes taught in middle school: Math I Accelerated Math I Foreign Language Assigned a Grade of P Counts toward graduation Does not count toward GPA NCAA does not accept middle school grades for eligibility

18 Registration for Courses All students are eligible for Honors/AP classes with teacher recommendation Do NOT have to be in Target/Gifted

19 Getting a Good Start Everyone starts out equal clean slate Important to start out with good grades first semester sets your GPA Attendance will make or break your grades

20 HOPE Scholarship Requires a 3.0 GPA in all core classes Failed classes are included in GPA Calculation Quality Points from AP Classes are calculated into GPA Honors Classes do not carry any extra quality points for HOPE Calculation

21 Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) Students must pass all five sections to receive a diploma Tests are given during the junior year Writing (Fall) Math (Spring) Science (Spring) Social Studies (Spring) English (Spring)

22 Advisement Conferences In the Spring, you will be contacted to attend your child s advisement conference Will develop a 4-year plan of study to map out classes to be taken over the four years to ensure graduation requirements are met Process will be repeated during the Junior year
