Why and how are GCSEs changing? The Rationale GCSEs in England are being reformed, to match the best systems in the world and keep pace with universities and employers demands. GCSE content will be more challenging but still suitable for a wide range of abilities GCSEs will be graded on a new scale of 9 to 1 rather than A* to G, with 9 the highest grade, to distinguish clearly between the reformed and unreformed qualifications Identify and reward the highest performing students Remove modularisation which encourages bite-sized learning Better prepare students for work, and further and higher education Reduce the burden of exams on students and teachers Ensure assessment is more robust and rigorous MA

Digital Detox and new habits 1. Make some sacrifices 2. Computers are rarely a revision tool. 3. Aim to avoid any screen time before sleep. 4. Turn off notifications and delete social media apps. 5. Break the habit of unprompted device checking. 6. Keep your phone in a location that prevents you from seeing, hearing or even reaching for it leave it downstairs. 7. Study in a quiet clutter free zone.
How to start Tidy Up
What do students already have?
What students need to have Examination timetable. Are the exams on an electronic calendar? Family calendar? School equipment a number of pens, pencils, ruler, protractor, calculator and a clear pencil case. Uniform Punctuality Great behaviour A growth mindset can do attitude.
A universal truth It is not possible to learn everything the night before the exam. It is not enough simply to read through class notes. Revision needs to be active not passive.
A reminder what works and what doesn t Practice testing Distributed practice Elaborate interrogation (quizzing, prepare to teach) Interleaved practice Highlighting Re-reading
Graphic organisers Students need to be active in revision, not just reading their notes and doing some colouring in with a rainbow of highlighters. Graphic organisers are a handy vehicle to get students reconstructing their revision topics, making meaningful links and connections. Cornell note-taking. Named after the US university, this strategy gets students thinking metacognitively, asking questions, noting key terms, and summarising the content being revised.
Revision Timetables Make a list of subject and sub topics. Prioritise. Ensure coverage. 45mins 1hr
Five Minute Revision Challenge Practice drawing diagrams of scientific processes Memorise definitions of subject vocabulary Learn vocabulary or verbs for foreign languages Look at a historical source (picture or short text) and brainstorm what you can see Pick a theme from a text for English and write down as many examples of it as you can think of from the text Act out a story, scientific process or historical or political event Solve a maths problem Memorise a formula Memorise key facts for a case study

Question 1 Exam clashes? There are always some clashing exams at some point through the exam season. The examinations officer in school organises alternative slots for exam clash students. Rescheduled exams are written on the individual student s timetable. If a student has a clash they must go to the examinations office.
Question 2 Mock exam feedback? Students will receive specific and detailed feedback following their mock exams. You will receive the final tracking of Year 11 before the Easter holidays. This tracking will be reviewed with form tutors and a member of the senior leadership team during individual review meetings straight after Easter. This year students will be self-reporting their feedback. Selfreporting cards will accompany the tracking. A final revision pack will be sent home before final papers. It will include some final revision tips, the dates of the final examinations and some further guidance from subject leaders.
Question 3 May 2018 Exams start on Monday 14 th May As in previous years we will publish our bespoke revision timetable as soon as we have the dates finalised. It is unlikely that examination leave will begin before Friday 25 th May 2018.
Question 4 GCSE Exam Results Day Results will be ready for collection on Thursday 23 rd August at 9.00 am from the school hall.
MA Question 5 Special consideration and access
