In grade divisions 6 th grade thru 11 th grade, THREE Sub States will be conducted. Teams will advance from substates to the state tournament. In grade division 2 nd Grade, 3 rd Grade, 4 th grade and 5 th grade state tournaments will be conducted, no sub-states. Review this flyer for specific tournament dates. In grade divisions 6 th grade through 11 th grade, the top 4 (four) teams in each substate will advance to DIVISION I State Tournament at the conclusion of the sub-state. DIVISION I State Tournaments will be conducted for grades: 2 nd grade, 3 rd grade, 4 th grade and 5 th grade. There will be no DIVISION I Sub States in these grade divisions. There will not be a Division I State Tournament for 12 th Grade. All interested teams in the Sr. Boys may advance directly to the National Boys 12 th Grade Championship. DIVISION II State Tournaments will be conducted for teams that do not qualify/advance to DIVISION I State Tournaments in the 4 th grade through 11 th grade divisions. Teams that qualify for the DIVISION I State Tournaments may participate in the DIVISION II State Tournaments in any older grade division. Teams will advance to the DI National Tournament or the DII National Tournament as defined by National Boys Basketball Rules. All teams that participate in the DI, 2 nd grade and DI 3 rd grade, will automatically advance to their DI National Tournament AAU Memberships AAU membership is required of all teams, clubs, athletes and non-athletes to participate in AAU events. You can register for AAU membership (individual and club) on the Internet at Each athlete and each non-athlete (including all non-players seated on the bench) must be registered for membership in the AAU. The fee is $14.00 per athlete for standard membership or $16.00 per athlete for Added Benefit membership. The fee is $16.00 for non-athletes for standard membership or $18.00 for non-athletes for Added Benefit membership. Membership in the AAU program includes accident and liability insurance for sanctioned AAU events and practices when all persons are properly registered. The Added Benefits (AB) membership extends coverage to the team, club, and individual members during non-sanctioned AAU events when all persons are properly registered. 2 2013 NEW RULES AAU BOYS BASKETBALL 2013 RULE CHANGES AND POINTS OF EMPHASIS Rule III. Competition Rules C. Team Rosters 1. Roster Participation Restrictions F. Technical Rules 3. Uniforms c. An athlete may participate in a maximum of two (2) grade divisions of the AAU Boys Basketball program for which he can qualify. NOTICE: Teams should be aware when acquiring uniforms that WHITE jerseys are required at National Championships. See Rule IV. National Championships, G. Uniforms. WHITE jerseys are not required at Super Regional Championships. Districts may or may not require WHITE jerseys at the District Championship. J. National Championship Qualification All teams must qualify in order to compete in a National Championship. The qualification requirements are as follows: 2. All teams must participate in a District Championship to compete at a National Championship. a. Teams which qualify 1 st through 4 th in the Division I District Championship may not play in the Division II or III National Championship in that Grade Division. All other teams that have qualified for Division I are eligible to play Division I or II in that grade. No team that qualifies for Division I in the District Championship may play in Division III in that grade. b. Teams which qualify 1 st through 4 th in the Division II District Championship may not play in Division III in that Grade Division. All other teams that may have qualified for Division II are eligible to play Division II or III in that grade. c. Teams which qualify 1 st through 4th in Division I or II may petition the National Chair for an exception to sections 2a and 2b above. d. Super Regional Championship - Teams may earn *conditional qualifying bids at Super Regional Championship events. The bid is validated through participation at a District Championship. e. Teams may receive a *conditional automatic bid into the 2013 National Championship based upon the team placement in the 2012 National Championship. The bid is validated through participation at a District Championship. NOTICE: All teams that participate at a District Championship may qualify for a National Championship in Division I, Division II and/or Division III based on the results at the District Championship. Speak to your District Sport Director or call the AAU National Office ( ) for clarification of eligibility to participate at a National Championship. 2
3 Rule III. Competition Rules (continued) K. National Championship Roster Rosters may be modified for competition following the completion of the District Championship. The roster modification criteria are as follows: 1. A team that qualifies for a National Championship may add a maximum of three (3) players to its District Roster for the purpose of participating in the National Championship. Additions must be made by the entry deadline date of the event. A maximum of two (2) additional athletes may be added to the National Championship Roster after the entry deadline. The total number of players designated to play in the National Tournament may not exceed fifteen (15) players. Athletes can be removed from the District Championship roster. 2. Players added to a roster must meet the following criteria: a. An athlete must have been able to satisfy all eligibility requirements (regarding age, residence, etc.). b. There shall be a maximum of three (3) cross boundary athletes on a roster at any time. c. A team advancing to a Division I National Championship may not add a player from a team advancing to a Division I National Championship in the same grade division without the written permission of the Eligibility Committee. d. A team advancing to a Division I National Championship may add a player from a roster of a team advancing to a Division II or III National Championship. e. A team advancing to a Division II National Championship may not add a player from a team that has placed 1 st through 4 th in the Division I District Championship in the same grade division. f. A team advancing to a Division II National Championship may not add a player from a team advancing to a Division II National Championship in the same grade division without the written permission of the Eligibility Committee. g. A team advancing to a Division III National Championship may not add a player from a team advancing to a Division III National Championship in the same grade division without the written permission of the Eligibility Committee. h. A team advancing to a Division III National Championship may not add a player from a team that has qualified for Division I in the District Championship in the same grade division. i. A team advancing to a Division III National Championship may not add a player from a team that has placed 1 st through 4 th in the Division II District Championship in the same grade division. j. The AAU Boys Basketball Eligibility Committee will not consider requests for transfer under rule H.2. c., f. and g. until after the completion of the District Championship. *Conditional Bid An automatic or Super Regional Championship bid is conditional until validated by participation at the District Championship. 3
4 SEAAU Boys Basketball 2014 District Rule Reminders A TN team may have a maximum of three players on its roster from the state of AL during the TN Sub State or State Tournament; and these players and the team must participate in the TN Tournament. An AL team may have a maximum of three players on its roster from the state of TN during the AL Sub State or State Tournament; and these players and team must participate in the AL Tournament. The three players included in this rule cannot play in both the TN and the AL Tournament; they can only participate in one qualifying tournament. National and SEAAU TN Boys Basketball Game Rules *These are partial excerpts of the SEAAU District and National Rules* Crowd Control The club, the team, and its coaches are responsible for the conduct of their own fans and players at every AAU contest, regardless of where it may be held. Failure to control its fans may result in suspension of the club, coaches, and/ or one or all of its teams from future AAU Boys Basketball Tournaments. Ejection s/technical Fouls The Boys' Basketball Committee has approved enforcement of the TSSAA rules on ejection for fighting and/or unsportsmanlike conduct (taunting, disrespect to officials or fans, etc.). If a player is ejected for fighting or receives two technical fouls for unsportsmanlike conduct, the player is suspended for the team's next two games in any TN SEAAU Sub-State or State Tournament. Any coach who is ejected from a game sanctioned by SEAAU TN Boys' Basketball for receiving two direct technical fouls will automatically be suspended from coaching his or her team's next game and the coach will be banned from the gymnasium. Uniform Dress Code Jerseys must conform to high school federation rules, with numbers on both front (2" minimum) and back (4" minimum) of the jersey, with the exception that numbers can be It is recommended that each team have one or two extra jerseys on hand because of the "blood rule". Each team must have a set of WHITE AND DARK JERSEYS! The AAU National Boys' Basketball jersey rule shall apply to any team that does not comply. Protest Any protest lodged with SEAAU TN Boys' Basketball must be filed in writing with a $200 cash fee that will be refunded if the protest is upheld. If the protest is rejected or abandoned, the $200 will be forfeited. State Advancement Notification Coaches must give the Boys' Basketball Chairman a written notice 48 hours after the completion of the DIVISION I Sub State or DIVISION I state tournament if the team is not advancing to next level of competition. If a team does not advance and does not give notice that the team will not participate, the coach will be banned from participation for one year and the club shall lose all seed points in all grade divisions for the next year. Intentional Forfeit Any coach who intentionally forfeits (i.e. takes his team off the floor during the game and refuses to complete the game), or who fails to participate in area district tournaments or district finals will be banned from participating in SEAAU TN Boys' Basketball for one year. The club will also lose all seed points in all grade divisions for the next year. 4
5 SEAAU Tennessee Division Tournament Entry Process DIVISION I Sub State Tournament (6 th Grade through 11 th Grade) DIVISION I State Tournament (2 nd Grade, 3 rd Grade, 4th Grade & 5 th Grade) It is your responsibility to make sure the entry forms; fees and rosters are received before the deadline. SEAAU Boys' Basketball is not responsible for late mail. (See tournament flyer for specific deadline dates for each grade division) 1. Mail a money order or certified check made payable to SEAAU Boys Basketball for $ and team entry form for each tournament entered to William Anderson, 6840 Garden Oaks Drive, Team entry form and fee for Division I must be received 14 days prior to the published opening date of the tournament. For Division II team entry form and fee must be received 18 days prior to the published opening date tournament. 2. Obtain your club and individual memberships online at 3. All ROSTERS must be uploaded online 9 days before the published opening date of the tournament in Division I and 12 days before the published opening date in Division II. Go to aauboysbasketball.org and click on team rosters. You must have obtained your club and individual membership before beginning the roster process. 4. Please bring your Eligibility Book to the tournament and have it with you at all times. The Eligibility Book should contain proof of age (birth certificate) and grade (report card) for all athletes on your roster. DIVISION II State Tournament (4 th Grade through 11 th Grade) 1. All teams must have previously participated in a DIVISION I Sub-State Tournament to be eligible for a DIVISION II State Tournament unless approved by the TN Boys Basketball Chairman. 2. Teams that advance/qualify for a DIVISION I State Tournament from a Sub-state are not eligible to advance to a DIVISION II State tournament unless approved by the TN Boys Basketball Chairman. Teams that qualify for DIVISION I State Tournament may play in the DIVISION II State Tournament in any older age group. Teams that do not advance/qualify to the DIVISION I National Championship can request permission to play in the DIVISION II State Tournament through the Chairman. 3. All teams that do not advance/qualify for a DIVISION I State Tournament are eligible to advance to a DIVISION II State Tournament in grade division: 4 th grade through 11 th Grade. Teams that advance to a DIVISION I State Tournament may advance to any DIVISION II State Tournament in any older age group. 4. All eligibility rules (such as residency, age division, number of age divisions played in, cross boundary athletes, pick-ups) apply to the DIVISION II State Tournament as specified by the SEAAU Boys Basketball rules and the AAU National Boys Basketball rules. 5. Teams in a DIVISION II State Tournament must submit an additional entry form and Entry fee payable to Youth of Memphis Competitors Association Inc. Roster for DIVISION II State Tournament will be the same roster as used in the Sub-State. You can add/delete seven 7 as defined by SEAAU Boys Basketball rules. Rosters MUST be in 12 days prior to the published opening date of the tournament and must be done online. 7. Teams will advance to the AAU DIVISION II National Tournament as specified by the AAU National Boys Basketball rules. Division II Tournament may begin play on Friday at 12:00 noon depending upon the number of teams entered. Late playing times will be given to out of town teams if possible.
