2 Dates of Registration Registration will open for everyone February 12 th at 4:00 PM Registration will close February 16 th at 11:59 PM.

3 4 Year Plan It all starts here Each of you will work on your 4 year plan Take time to look through the course guide Available on the website: Academics/Curriculum/Course Descriptions Make sure you have all requirements met or lined up for the future Talk to your teachers if you have questions about specific courses or recommendations. Talk to your parents/guardians about your choices and plans

4 Schedule & Drop/Add Over the summer you will be ed a list of your courses, once received you will have two weeks to e- mail Mr. Nahm with any questions and concerns regarding your schedule. Each family will receive a SchoolMessenger call from Mrs. Lovette letting them know that the schedule has been sent and is ready for review.

5 Class Registration Process You may access the class registration choices on the main page in PowerSchool. Use the Class Registration page in PowerSchool to request classes for the next year and to view any existing course recommendations.

6 Transfer Students If you transferred to Incarnate Word Academy from another high school at any time you will register at school with Mr. Huber & Mr. Nahm the week of February 12 th through the 16 th during homeroom. You will be notified by of your time slot.

7 Recommendations Each student has been recommended for classes. The recommendations are the courses you should take next year. You may decide with your parents to go from an Honors class to a B class You may not register for an Honors class if you have been recommended for a B class.

8 How to Register for Classes On the main menu, click Class Registration which is found on the menu on the left. To begin registering: Click the Pencil in each subject section. A Red Exclamation Point shows a required subject. A Green Check Mark shows subjects that can be chosen but are not required. From the Pop-up Menu, select the course(s) that you want to request.

9 How to Register- Cont. In some subjects students may be recommended for a particular course by the teacher. Those recommendations appear on the right in the Pop Up boxes. Students may choose to follow the teacher course recommendation or register for another course. However, a student may not register for a course that has an Honors, AP, or ACP designation without a teacher recommendation. Once you have selected the course(s) in each subject area, click Okay. Check the bottom right hand section of the screen. This is where you will find the total number of credits you have entered. If the total number of credits is over the recommended amount, please check your course selections to make sure that you did not over-select your number of courses. If you have checked the number of courses and you are still over the recommended amount and you believe it to be correct, please see the Guidance Counselor for approval to be over the recommended amount of credits. After you have selected all courses, click Submit.

10 Alternate Choices of Electives Alternate course selections are now optional If your first choice cannot be scheduled, you will be scheduled in your alternate choice. Be sure to sign up for classes you want to take because you may receive the alternate choice. The alternate choice should not be the same as your first choice. If a class does not have enough students registered, the class may not run. In this case the students will receive an alternate. Also, if a class is oversubscribed, Seniors will get priority, then Juniors, then Sophomores

21 Theology Christ & Culture Open to seniors, both semesters Analyzes current trends in society through a Christian lens, including the following: U.S. culture (including social media, pop. culture, music, and television/netflix) Suffering and death Spirituality and prayer in everyday life

22 Theology Introduction to Philosophy ACP Open to seniors who meet ACP requirements Second semester General introduction to the art of a philosophical argument and the primary figures in Western philosophy. Questions that will be explored include: Do you really exist? Is there an objective good and objective evil? How can we know or disprove the existence of God? What is free will? To what extent are humans really free? Class will rely upon classic texts and contemporary films Students can earn college credit through SLU

23 Math Probability and Statistics Full Year class The course will cover basic concepts and methods in probability and statistics. Topics include descriptive statistics, probabilities of events, random variables and their distributions, sampling distributions, estimation of population parameters, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing for population means and population proportions, chi-square tests.

24 Social Studies AP World History Open to: Sophomores The AP World History course focuses on developing students understanding of world history from approximately 8000 BCE to the present. The course has students investigate the content of world history for significant events, individuals, developments, and processes in six historical periods, and develop and use the same thinking skills and methods employed by historians when they study the past. Expectations: Read and take notes from a college-level textbook Complete multiple essays based on primary and secondary sources Conclude with a college-level assessment developed and scored by college and university faculty as well as experienced AP teachers.

25 Science Honors Anatomy & Physiology Open to Juniors and Seniors Honors Anatomy is an advanced version of the standard Anatomy course. It will be faster pace, more rigorous and with a greater breadth and depth of content. The course will include additional lab work, readings and practical format summative assessments.

26 Business Education Media Applications 2 This course will build on the information acquired from Media Applications 1. Students will continue to learn new skills in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. Students will use this information and skills to design and create products for Incarnate Word Academy. Prerequisite: Media Applications 1

27 Fine Arts/Music Open to everyone Beginning Band Students to learn a traditional band instrument. (Flute, trumpet, clarinet, etc.) Students must provide their own instrument, but Mrs. Moramarco should be able to help you find one if needed. Full Year course

28 Fine Arts/Music Open to everyone Beginning Strings Students to learn a traditional orchestra instrument. (violin, viola, cello, or bass) Students must provide their own instrument, but Mrs. Moramarco should be able to help you find one if needed Full Year course

29 Fine Arts/Music Open to everyone Piano Now you may take this course up to two times Semester long For students who want to learn Piano regardless of previous experience.

30 Fine Arts/Music Guitar II Open to everyone who has taken Beginning Guitar or by audition One semester Students need to provide their own instrument For students who want to continue their guitar experience.

31 Fine Arts/Physical Education Open to everyone Broadway Dance Students learn the basic techniques of various styles of dance such as jazz and ballet. No prior experience is required. Students will explore movement and performance by studying several famous Broadway musicals such as Footloose, Dreamgirls, Chicago, and Hairspray. Class content will include warm-up exercises, traveling combinations and choreographed routines. Jazz shoes must be purchased for this course.

32 Physical Education Strength Training Open to Juniors and Seniors May be taken up to 2 times Students work to improve their total body condition and strength through weight training. Each student s current levels of strength are assessed, and progress is measured throughout the semester. Goal-setting and full-body workout design are key components of this course.

33 Fine Arts/Art Drawing ACP Open to anyone who has completed Intro to Art Student will experience drawing techniques (composition, light, and shadow) for pencil, charcoal, ink, and colored pencil. Students will work from life and reference images. Now available for College Credit!

34 Fine Arts/Art Painting ACP Open to everyone who has completed Drawing Painting introduces the students to the materials and techniques of watercolor, acrylic and oil painting. Now available for College Credit!

35 Fine Arts/Art Ceramics (Hand Building) ACP Open to everyone who has completed Intro to Art This course introduces knowledge and techniques of working with clay. Students will experience hand building while producing functional and/or sculptural 3-dimensional art. A wheel throwing LAP will also be included Now available for College Credit!

36 Fine Arts/Art Ceramics II (Hand Building) ACP Open to everyone who has completed Ceramics This course continues to expand knowledge and techniques of working with clay. Students will experience hand building while producing functional and/or sculptural 3-dimensional art. A wheel throwing LAP will also be included Larger pieces will be created! 37 New Courses- Fine Arts Digital Photography ACP Open to everyone who has taken Intro to Art Learn how to use your own digital camera. You should be able to change the cameras lenses (please direct all questions to Mr. Sullivan).

38 New Courses- Electives Open to Seniors Honors Leadership in Action ACP Fall semester only Leadership in Action answers the question, What can you do for your community and Incarnate Word Academy? In this course, student-leaders will explore complex leadership principles, design and workshop lessons with your classmates, and push into grade schools in the St. Louis area once a cycle with studentleaders from CBC. The course is offered for college credit through Drury University.

42 English The History of the English Language 2.0 This course examines the English language further than the first course. It challenges the students to expand their knowledge through independent synthesis and evaluation of Old English vernacular and development of the modern language of technology. June 4 th June 14th

43 Electives ACT Preparation Open next year s Sophomores - Seniors This course provides all necessary skills to increase mastery of the ACT, covering all four sections of the test. 20 students minimum must sign up in order for the course to take place and the course will be capped at 25 students. Students can see the syllabus and save their seat at Mr. Jennewein only has 10 spots remaining!

44 GPA needed for ACP classes Students with cum. GPA of 3.9 or above may carry 4 advanced courses. Students with cum. GPA of or above may carry 3 advanced courses. Students with cum. GPA of or above may carry 2 advanced courses. Students with cum. GPA of or above may carry 1 advanced course. Students with a cum. GPA lower than 3.0 may take an ACP course, however they are not eligible to receive the college credit. Students with cum. GPA below 2.0 should not take any advanced courses.
