4 TMWC- Lifetime of Service Award, 2013 Haswell M. Franklin (Dr. Pin) Although never a wrestler himself, Haswell lives and breathes wrestling and has promoted the sport in various capacities for over 40 years. Most notably, he served as Chairman of the Maryland State Wrestling Association (MSWA) for more than 20 years. During that time the MSWA grew tremendously and expanded their footprint from an organization that went to the Junior Nationals to one that offers a wide variety of programs allowing wrestlers of all ages and ability levels to participate in the sport. In 1984, Haswell started the Gilman Duals with the goal of bringing some of the top high schools from around the country to compete in a dual meet tournament, which was new at the time. The school renamed the event in his honor to the Haswell M. Franklin, 50 Gilman Duals in In 1986, he and the MSWA started the High School Senior Classic allowing the top seniors from the two public school classifications and the independent schools to compete against each other in a round robin event. Several years later the MSWA re-named that event in his honor as well. In 2002, Haswell was named recipient of the Outstanding American Award by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
