1 CORONADO HIGH SCHOOL 2018 Graduation Newsletter Graduation Philosophy It is the philosophy of the Clark County School District and Coronado High School that high school graduation ceremonies are designed to honor graduates with a graduation ceremony that is solemn and dignified. The members of the Class of 2018 respectfully request that parents, family members, and other guests refrain from unnecessary noise and disruptions during the graduation ceremony. It is the desire of the class that all graduates be honored equally and that all family and friends have the opportunity to hear their students be recognized. With this goal in mind, we ask for your cooperation in maintaining order during the ceremony, especially during the presentation of diplomas. The following newsletter will detail the procedures in place for graduation. These guidelines have been developed and approved by the Clark County Board of School Trustee. RECOGNITION Scholarship and award recipients will be honored at the Senior Awards Night on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 6:00 pm in the school gymnasium. There will be a MANDATORY graduation rehearsal for all graduates on Monday, May 21, 2018, at 8:00 am, in the school gymnasium. Students who do not attend the rehearsal will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. Graduates are reminded that regular school attire must be worn at the graduation rehearsal. Caps, gowns, and ten admission tickets to the ceremony will be distributed at the conclusion of rehearsal. SENIOR TRIP The Senior Trip is to Six Flags Magic Mountain on Thursday, May 24, Students will depart Coronado HS at 3:00 pm to arrive at Six Flags Magic Mountain at 8:00 pm. Students attending the trip will have use of Six Flags Magic Mountain all night from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am (when the park closes) they, along with other high school seniors, will have exclusive access to the Grad Nite Party. Bus will depart Six Flags Magic Mountain at 6:00 am, May 25th. Students will return to Coronado at approximately 11:00 am on Friday, May 25th. Students must attend one of the three meetings if they re interested in going to Grad Nite, before and after school on 2/6-8. Payment will not be accepted until after seniors attend the meeting and are cleared of all fines, have a positive discipline record, are current with their credits, and have submitted all the necessary registration and permission paperwork.

Although we are diverse in our future endeavors, we have come to see ourselves as a family rather than peers in a classroom. Unified, we have the same drive to pursue our dreams. We feel prepared to venture out into the unknown, knowing that Coronado has instilled in us a depth of character that sets us apart from the rest. Ready for the future and what it holds for us, we can conquer any of life s obstacles with a sense of optimism and purpose. We are on top and will always strive to be on top. We are ready to fight. 3 Graduation Location/Time The graduation ceremony for Coronado High School Class of 2018 will be held at the Thomas & Mack Arena at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 29, Graduates must report in their cap and gown by 2:00 pm. Graduates will enter the Thomas & Mack tunnel, located on the North side (back) of the arena building. Parents will not be admitted into the staging area. CAP AND GOWN Caps and gowns and all other graduation products can be ordered through Herff Jones. Please order one of these ways: 1. On-line: HJGrad.com 2. Come to Herff Jones on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm at 5071 N Rainbow, Suite 150. TICKETS Tickets are required for admission to the graduation ceremony. Graduates will receive ten (10) tickets with their cap and gown, immediately following the graduation rehearsal on May 21, Additional Two (2) tickets will be available for a parent/guardian to pick-up from the receptionist, May 23-25, between 7:30 am and 3 pm. CHECKOUT / REHEARSAL All fees, fines and other debts owed to the school must be paid in full before caps and gowns will be issued. Fine letters will be mailed. In order to participate in the Graduation Ceremony and Grad Walk, all fines must be paid. Please have all fines paid by Friday, May 11, Cash or money order only accepted at the school bank. DRESS CODE The following attire for seniors participating in the commencement ceremony has been established and will be strictly enforced. Gentlemen dress pants and dress shirt with tie and dress shoes. Ladies dress, skirt, or slacks (length not to exceed graduation gown) and dress shoes. No shorts, sandals, or tennis shoes of any kind will be allowed. Students violating the prescribed dress code will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. Graduates should have their graduation gown on when they arrive at the Thomas & Mack. You may want to iron your gown or hang it up several days before the ceremony. When wearing the cap, place the tassel on the left. BEHAVIOR Any student who does not exhibit proper behavior will be immediately removed from the graduation area. A diploma will not be issued to the student at that time but will be issued to parents at a conference with the school principal. Parents/guardians must request and hold the conference within 30 days after graduation. School personnel are assigned supervisory responsibilities to assist graduates during the ceremonies. Should a student be found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the ceremony, he/she will be denied the opportunity to participate in the exercises and will be removed from the graduation area. MORTARBOARD(CAP)THROWING Due to the possibility of injury, the throwing of mortarboards (and any other objects) prior to, during, or following the graduation exercise is strictly prohibited. Please also note that mortarboards cannot be altered/decorated in any way. PHOTOGRAPHERS AND VIDEO SERVICES Pictures may not be taken on the stage, floor, or in the tunnel of the Thomas and Mack Center. Cameras, including video cameras, are allowed in the general seating area (no power source is available). Parents may take pictures from their seats. All aisles must be kept clear. Only authorized personnel will be allowed to take pictures as graduates cross the stage. Lifetouch School Pictures will photograph you at this years Graduation Ceremony as you walk up to the stage and when you shake hands with the presenter. Portraits will be uploaded approximately 10 days after the ceremony. 4 SEATING AND SPECIAL SERVICES Each student will be issued a limited number of tickets for guests to attend the ceremony. Be sure to bring your tickets with you. The tickets are free, but seating is limited, so no one will be admitted without a ticket. We also suggest that your group plan to arrive together so there is a greater likelihood of being seated together. There is no reserved seating and saving seats is not allowed. Please do not leave an empty seat in the row. HANDICAPPED SEATING Handicapped seating is provided. Stage right (your right when looking at grads from stage). Guests will enter in the arena using the elevator at the main entrance and may bring one guest. Handicapped seating is not intended for strollers. INTERPRETING SERVICES Parents, family, and friends of graduating seniors who are deaf or hard of hearing and in need of interpreting services for the commencement ceremonies are asked to make requests for interpreting services through the Coronado High School Activities Office at ext DISTRIBUTION OF DIPLOMAS During the ceremony, diploma covers will be presented to graduates on stage. The actual diploma will be given to students immediately following the graduation ceremony. PARKING Parking is available free of charge and on a first come first serve basis at the Thomas & Mack Arena. After the ceremony, please vacate the parking lot as soon as possible to allow attendees to the next graduating school find parking in that area. AUDIENCE ETIQUETTE Requests have been made by the Class of 2018 that audience members refrain from distracting noises during the graduation ceremony. Please do not bring whistles, noisemakers, air horns, or other devices that will disrupt the ceremony and prevent others from hearing the name of the next graduate. All noisemakers will be confiscated by security personnel. Please allow all audience members to hear the name of that special graduate they came to honor. Please also remember that seat saving is not allowed. AFTER THE CEREMONY Graduates will exit from the Thomas & Mack, directly to the diploma distribution room. Families of the graduates should wait for them at the entrance of the Arena. It is imperative that guests and graduates vacate the parking lots as soon as possible to eliminate traffic problems for those attending the next ceremony. Excellence by Design 4
