4 The curriculum - Be aware of how courses impact post 16. Follow a pathway that provides options Think about a broad and balanced Curriculum Consider the type of qualifications the GCSE s/btec s/level 1 & level 2 Technical Awards will lead to in the future Excellent Careers Information, Advice & Guidance is available

5 GCSE examinations will take place in the Summer term of Year 11 the end of the GCSE course. The only exceptions will be Chinese GCSE, Japanese GCSE & some home language exams. GCSE courses have changed for all subjects now. They are harder! English Language 2 examinations worth 50% each. There is also a non-examined Spoken Language assessment which involves presenting & responding to questions. English Literature 2 examinations worth 40% (Shakespeare & 19 th century Novel) and 60% (modern texts, poetry & unseen poetry). No material can be taken into exams so the emphasis is on learning all quotes. Maths now have 3 examinations. More links to everyday life now, problem solving and an increased emphasis upon written communication.

6 Science Double Award (6 exams) & Triple Award (9 exams). No Controlled assessment now. Core practical skills taught throughout the course and these will now be tested through exam questions. More emphasis upon recalling & applying formulae & a greater emphasis upon maths skills. NO YEAR 10 EXAMS NOW. Languages assessed in 4 skills areas - Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading No re-sits. The courses are 2 year linear courses. Additional marks will be added for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, SPAG, in English Literature, Geography, History and RS. Mathematics in a number of subjects now.

7 Controlled Assessments look at the Options ibook to see which subjects have controlled assessments still. Dance, Music, Drama, Art = 60%, Computer Science = 20%, Creative Digital Media = 75%, Food Preparation & Nutrition, Design Technology, Information Technologies = 50%, Physical Education = 40% Fashion & Textiles, Visual Communication, Craft (resistant materials)= 100% Government measures; Ebacc. English, Maths, 2 sciences (incl. Computing), History or Geography and a language. Progress 8 How much Value added between KS2 & the end of Year 11? Our result was the highest ever last year at

11 Pathway 1 Triple Science students have started this course in Year 9. Psychology 1 class students will be invited. It will be 1 of their option choices. Pathway 2 Dual Award Science Programme Pathway 3 Dual Award Science Programme Level 1/2 Vocational courses Work Related Learning Programme. Students will be invited onto one course. It will be one of their option choices. Either Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy (Level 1), Hospitality & Catering(Level 1 or 2) or Construction (Level 1).

They must take History or Geography as a second option Construction Level 1 BTEC Beauty therapy & Hairdressing Level 1 Award Hospitality & Catering level 1 or Level 2 Award

15 COMBINATIONS Only 1 Technology subject Only take Performing Arts (Dance) or Drama Only take Information technologies or Computer Science Can do History & Geography Psychology - then students must do History or Geography as another option. They must have projected Level 7 grades on their Year 9 report. Can do Art and Photography
