1 Like Tweet AUGUST 2016 NEWSLETTER A message from the President Dear Parents and Players, I want to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Adam Drew and I was recently elected President of the Mt. Olive Jr. Lacrosse Club. While I know many parents and players in the program, I don t know the vast majority. I was offered the opportunity by the club to develop the President s Corner in our newsletter and I thought, what a great idea. First, I want to thank Kenny Hanna (Past President), Gene Meo (Past Boys Treasurer), and Kirstin Kroll (Past Boys Secretary) for their time and devotion as Board Members of the association. They have set the foundation that the current Board will use to further develop this program. I want to congratulate new Board Members to the association, Steve Linskey (Boys Treasurer) and Valerie Meisel (Boys Secretary). Here is a little background about myself. I have 3 children (6th grade son, 2nd grade son, and kindergartener daughter). All 3 of my children play lacrosse and absolutely love it. I believe the success to any program is making it fun and exciting for the player and the family. I have many ideas to make this happen. After the June election, I used that time to think of ideas for the program going forward. My personality is always looking towards the future and how to make it better. During our July transition board meeting, I had the chance to meet with the Board and discuss the plan I have. I explained I don t want to change anything from the past because that s the base of the foundation,

2 but I want to change the future and #takeittothenextlevel. As the President, I want to focus on the family experience in the program. I want parents to volunteer because they want to, not because they have to. I want players to come to practice because we are a family and they enjoy it. You will see many changes coming in the immediate and distant future. Some changes have already taken place behind the scenes. Here is a sample of the changes coming now; New club logo New website ( New social media (Twitter Instagram mojrlacrosse, Snapchat to come) New registration process that will integrate and make communication better for the club and families New spirit wear vendor that will include an online store. The vendor will carry clothing for all price points and appeal to everyone. Player/Parent pick up games every Sunday at Mt. Olive Middle School. In the works; Drakes Brook Park: Board members have met with the town and developed a plan. We will be playing on 2 fields next season. A concession stand to make the family experience the most it can be. If possible, a new entrance sign to the park, welcoming everyone to the home of Mt. Olive Lacrosse Club. We are in discussion to build a concrete bounce wall so players can have fun and further develop their game. In the distant future; We are working on new uniforms The possibility of a 3rd field at Drakes Brook Park. Soon, you will all receive a survey that will ask your feedback of the program. I hope that you all take the time to complete. Your feedback will help grow the program and leave your thumbprint on the changes that will come for the children that will take part in our program.

3 As you can see, we have many plans for the future. Many of these things will require family involvement and volunteering. This is my direct appeal to parents and players. When the club is soliciting volunteers, my hope is for you to make every effort to help. Looking forward to a great new season and keeping the stride to #takeittothenextlevel. Go Marauders LAX! 4 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - DRAKES BROOK PARK MAINTENANCE We plan to play our 2017 season on Drakes Brook fields 1 & 2. MOJLC entered into a contract with a local fertilizer company to aggressively treat and prepare the fields for play. This past week, the fields were treated to kill weeds. Two more fertilizer applications, topsoil, and seed will be completed before winter. Before we proceed, we need to remove the remaining rocks from field 2. Here is the plan for next Saturday: When: Saturday, August 6th Time: 8am - noon Location: Drakes Brook Park Details: Please bring a pick and/or shovel (no wheelbarrows needed). We will remove small and medium size rocks using volunteers and small duty equipment. Any large rocks (boulders) will be marked and left for Mt. Olive Twp. to remove with heavy equipment. Volunteers can help in any time increments that works best for your schedule. There is a very good chance we will be done before noon. To better coordinate this event and ensure we have the right amount of equipment, please Adam Drew at president@mojlc.org with your availability. 5 Sunday is Lacrosse Fun Day The NEW Player/Parent pick up games kicked off this past Sunday with a great turnout. In case you missed it, here are the details: Who should attend?: Players and parents of all ages and abilities When?: Every Sunday from 10am - 11am (Change to 10am - Noon) Where?: M.O.M.S. (Mt. Olive Middle School, Turf Field) Why?: To promote the game of lacrosse we want players & parents to play together and enjoy the fastest sport on feet. The environment is laid back and the contact is minimal. What do I need?: Full gear for both players and parents. Do I need register ahead of time?: No. Simply show up. 2 teams will be assembled based on who attends. Cost?: Free! Questions? Contact Coach Mike Elko at vpboys@mojlc.org Girls Fall Ball

6 Mount Olive Girls 7/8 Jr Lacrosse will organized a team to play this upcoming fall in Randolph. FORMAT, LOCATION AND DATES: 8 Sundays - Sep 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 with a 5, 6 or 7 PM start Randolph HS Lacrosse turf field (DaSilva) - 3 fields games run simultaneously 7 v 7 format (7 field players plus a goalie). Field size 70 yards long and yards wide 1 game with two 24 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime (continuous clock) 3 levels of play (U12/HS A, U10/HS B, 7/8). Two US Lacrosse officials per game. 7 MOUNT OLIVE LACROSSE CLASSIC RECAP What an amazing 2016 Mt Olive Classic!! The 2016 Mount Olive Lacrosse Classic was a huge success. The teams who participated continue to tout that this is one of the best run events that that they attend year after year. To highlight some of the statistics of the day: We had: 85 teams total (75 boys, 10 girls) o Boys 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grades o Girls U15 division and 1 U13 team Mt Olive We used: 8 fields at Turkey Brook Park 2 fields at Mount Olive Middle School We needed NEW this year: Two shuttle buses available for parking overflow from Turkey Brook to Drakes Brook and return We were supported by: Mount Olive Police Department Morris County EMS Budd Lake First Aid Squad Flanders First Aid Squad Mount Olive Board of Education Mount Olive Department of Public Works Mount Olive Recreation Department Our partner Vendors: Food Truck supplied by Michelle's Bistro Operation Jersey Cares (supporting NJ homeless Vets) Coca Cola for donation of water and soda at a discounted price Our organizers and club liasions who deserve our thanks: Dave Gallucci and ATH-ED for organizing the Boys Division Chris Baduini for organizing Girls Division Kenny Hanna for his partnership with the MOPD, EMS, Volunteers, and Transportation Chris Walsh for making sure the field were ready for play

Proceeds from this event offset costs to run the Mount Olive Jr. Lacrosse program. We are already planning for our 2017 Mount Olive Classic and would like to invite our MOJLC Community to begin the planning with us. Jersey Thunder Lacrosse Academy is full of EXPERIENCED High School lacrosse coaches to help each student-athletes develop his game to the next level. Jersey Thunder Lacrosse Academy is a program which is dedicated to developing student-athletes through clinic-like, positional focused training and the fundamentals of the game, including (but not limited to) stick skills, lacrosse IQ, positioning, teamwork, and emphasizing the honor and privilege to play the fastest game on two feet.
