5 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS 23.0 Total Credits Needed for Graduation 1 semester class = 0.5 credits MATH 4 credits LANGUAGE ARTS 4 credits SOCIAL STUDIES 3 credits (5 if Magnet) SCIENCE 4 credits (Biology, Physics or Physical Science & 2 Selectives) WORLD LANG CAREER TECH FINE ARTS 3 credits (2 credits of WL for college admission; 3 for Magnet) HEALTH/PE 1 credit ELECTIVES 4 credits

Certain colleges may require 2-3 years of world language. If student has not started a World Language yet, plan on starting next year.

17 TESTING PSAT- Practice SAT Wednesday, October 11 Georgia Milestones - April 23 May 4, 2018 Replaces EOCT s. Most 10 th graders will take the Milestones in certain subjects in April and May. (Geometry) Counts as 20% of final grade. AP Exams: May 7-18, 2018

18 Grades/GPA Fulton County uses Numeric Grade Averages o Can t directly convert Numeric to GPA (ex: 80% NGA isn t 3.0) Most Colleges (and HOPE) use GPA Variations on GPA Core v. Cumulative Weighted v. Unweighted

19 Grades/GPA Estimating GPA For each final grade on the transcript, assign the following point values: A = 4 B = 3 C = 2 F = 0 Add up all the points and divide by the number of classes Do not round up (ex: 2.85 doesn t round to a 3.0) Important to move borderline grades to a higher letter grade

20 HOPE Scholarship GPA HOPE & Zell Miller Scholarships are calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission Riverwood cannot provide you with HOPE GPA GSFC will not round up HOPE GPA calculations (ex: will not qualify you for HOPE) You can check preliminary HOPE GPA during 11 th grade at

21 HOPE Scholarship GPA HOPE Scholarship Must finish with a minimum 3.0 GPA in academic courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies & World Language) Middle School grades do not Count for HOPE HOPE subtracts the 7 points added to Honors/AP/IB grades Then add 0.5 weight to AP/IB classes only (not Honors) Can t go above a 4.0 Academic electives not required for graduation still count towards HOPE (e.g., Spanish 3, AP Psych., Math Support, etc.) All 4 th Science option classes, which includes CTE classes Grades for all attempted academic classes included (even F s) Zell Miller Scholarship Need a 3.7 GPA in core academic courses Need one of the following, qualifying test scores: At least 1200 on SAT (Critical Reading + Math) in one sitting Composite ACT score of at least 26 in one sitting

22 HOPE- Rigor Requirement In order to be eligible for HOPE/Zell Miller, students must earn a minimum of 4.0 credits in courses from the following categories: 1) Advanced math, such as Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Adv Math Decision Making, or an equivalent or higher course; 2) Advanced science, such as Chemistry, Physics, Human Anatomy/Physiology, or an equivalent or higher course; 3) Advanced Placement courses in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language); 4) International Baccalaureate or Dual Credit Enrollment courses in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies and foreign language); 5) Courses taken at a unit of the University System of Georgia in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies and foreign language) where such courses are not remedial and developmental courses; or 6) Advanced foreign language courses.
