1 Physiotherapy: Examples of 2018 entry requirements (Students are advised to always check online the latest entry requirements as these may have changed since this document was created) Physiotherapy is a competitive degree course; there are between nine and thirty-seven applicants per place. Entry grades are high with all courses asking for at least (BBB). Many courses stipulate the number of subjects and grades required at GCSE level and most require one or two science subjects at A level. All 35 Physiotherapy degree courses in the UK are accredited by The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. Successful applicants will be required to complete a DBS Enhanced Disclosure, a satisfactory Occupational Health check and to provide a satisfactory second reference. Further information about physiotherapy is available from: The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy web site NHS careers: The Health Professions Council web site The Trotman book, Getting into Physiotherapy Courses, ISBN: From 1 August 2017, new students on nursing, midwifery and Allied Health Professions pre-registration courses (which lead on to qualification with one of the health professional regulators) in England will need to take out maintenance and tuition loans like other students, rather than getting an NHS bursary. This may prompt debates in the future in the other UK home nations, so it s worth keeping an eye on it. See this link to Funding changes. In February 2016 the Scottish Government announced retention of the bursary financial support for nurses who meet the residency eligibility, this is currently under discussion. Scotland International students are accepted on some course tuition fees apply. Physiotherapy is a vocational degree and applicants need to be enthusiastic about the profession and sure in their own minds that they really want to be a physiotherapist. All courses require applicants to undertake as much physiotherapy work experience as possible primarily within the NHS hospital and community settings, before applying. Experience in other areas, such as special schools, private practice, sports clinics, and centers for the elderly will strengthen your application. Additionally applicants must have fully investigated the profession through activities such as: attending open days, attending education days/seminars, taster sessions and accessing written and electronic sources of information. Additional/transferable skills, knowledge, experience will be considered which may come from caring or voluntary work experience, paid employment, sporting activity or an award scheme such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Brighton BTEC extended Diploma DDM, and an A-level in Biology or Human Biology at grade B. Applicants should normally possess a strong GCSE profile in a minimum of five subjects at grade C or above including English language, maths and a science. 6 Leeds Beckett BTEC: 128 points in an appropriate science award including Sports Science and Sports & Exercise Science (please note other science based awards may be acceptable if studied alongside an A2 level from the scientific discipline list above). GCSE Grade C in English Language, Mathematics, Science (Grade 4 for those sitting their GCSE from 2017 onwards). Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy/Numeracy are accepted in place of English Language and Maths GCSEs. If you are studying Biology, Chemistry or Physics to meet this requirement you must also achieve a `Pass' in the practical assessment, where that practical assessment is separated 128 points required.
