IPM is a method for managing pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property and the environment. This method for managing pests includes the careful use of pesticides; i.e. insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides and fungicides. IPM also requires that parents or guardians have prior notice of pesticide applications. In order to provide timely information to parents or guardians who would like to be notified about pesticide applications, every School District #204 building develops a yearly registry. Forms are available at each school office. Hill Middle School Listserv The Hill Listserv and the District Wide News are excellent ways of communicating important information between the school, district and parents. We are asking our parents/guardians to assist us in getting as close to 100% participation as possible. Signing up for District Wide E News is simple. Go to the 204 District website Once you are on that website select the Subscribe to News option. Simply follow the directions on this page. 5 Thayer J. Hill Middle School 1836 Brookdale Rd. Naperville, Illinois Blazing Trails for Today and Tomorrow Mike Dutdut, Principal Patty Brand, Asst. Principal Jeff Haeger, Asst. Principal August 2014 Dear Parents, It is Indian Prairie School District 204 and Hill Middle School s goal to ensure that every student in our school is safe. Because of this, Indian Prairie School District 204 has developed a policy with guidelines addressing nut allergies within the school environment, congruent with the District expectations and reflective of the increasing number of students with nut allergies at Hill Middle School. Because these students cannot be in contact with foods containing this allergen, the following precautions must be taken: 1. Food items will not be allowed in the classroom(s) at any time/for any reason unless approval has been given by administration. If approval is granted, food items will be peanut free and tree-nut free. 2. Curricular items will be reviewed by Hill Middle School Staff to ensure that they do not contain peanut/peanut products (i.e. math manipulatives, art supplies). 3. A peanut-free lunch table may be provided to address an individual student s needs. The table would be cleaned with soap and water before and after the lunch period. 4. Staff members involved with the student with the peanut allergy are in-serviced by the nurse on the individual student s health plan, possible reactions and necessary steps, including the use of an Epi-Pen in the case of a severe reaction. 5. On field trips, a staff member trained on the steps involved in a student s health/emergency plan or the parent may be present. Thank you for your consideration and help in this matter. Please call if you have any questions or concerns. Hill s main contact for allergy related issues is Mr. Jeff Haeger. Sincerely, Mike Dutdut Principal
