3 Budget General Information USD #: _394_ Introduction Rose Hill Unified School District 394 encompasses fifty-five square miles in southwest Butler and southeast Sedgwick counties in Kansas. We are a suburban district located fifteen (15) miles southeast of Wichita. Our second century of educational excellence began with the school year. The district serves its students through four centers located on one campus. The instructional nature of these buildings is Primary, serving Four Year Old At-Risk and Early Childhood Special Education as well as Kindergarten through 2 nd grade, Intermediate, serving 3 rd through 5 th grade, Middle School, serving 6 th through 8 th grade, and a High School serving grades 9 through 12. Additionally, Butler Community College has an education wing attached to the High School to allow for concurrent college study. Many of our students graduate with several hours of college credit earned through our concurrent credit program. Updated facilities highlight a solid educational experience at Rose Hill. Upgraded stadium facilities as well as a new flow-down style gymnasium at the high school help to enhance and facilitate the curricular and co-curricular activities of our secondary students. The elementary school is organized into color-coded instructional pods to identify the different grade levels. The middle school is designed to allow teaming in each grade level. The high school offers a wide range of education opportunities with offerings covering vocational as well as college prep. Laptop computers are provided for high school students to use either at school and home during the school year. Butler Community College provides concurrent credit classes for many of our subjects on site during the school day, with evening classes provided for those who want to accelerate their learning. For those students who struggle in a traditional secondary education environment, we provide an on-site alternative school through the Encore Program. We provide a strong Parents-as-Teachers program, a half-day At-Risk Four Year Old program, and the Kindergarten program is an all day session with an option for half days if the parents desire. Special Education services are provided by the Butler County Special Education Cooperative, which serves all nine school districts in the county. Our student s test scores, graduation rate, and accomplishments in other curricular and co-curricular areas indicate they are receiving a high-quality education. We continue to meet AYP with the No Child Left Behind legislation. The students of Rose Hill Schools earned 14 Standard of Excellence Awards across the district for their outstanding work. USD 394 currently employs 227 staff members. This staff is broken down as 8 certified administrators, 5 non-certified administrators, 108 certified teachers, and 106 support staff. All of our faculty have met the highly qualified definition according to state and federal standards for their content areas. We currently have classroom sizes of twenty to twenty-two in grades K 2 and below twenty-five in grades 4 8. Our core classroom size at the High School is below thirty. The Board of Education offices are located at 104 North Rose Hill Road, Rose Hill Kansas Business hours are daily from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. 1

5 Accomplishments: The District s Accomplishments and Challenges The district surpassed all test score cut lines and performance percentages required to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) The district offers newly constructed facilities throughout the district campus. All Rose Hill USD 394 faculty members are highly qualified per state and federal guidelines. The district has implemented a 4-year old at-risk program. Every elementary classroom is equipped with SmartBoard Technologies Elementary students have access to Ipod touch mobile labs to aid in skill development. Challenges: The district will be working to fund the increasing cost of educating students to the NCLB standards. The district will be working to identify and improve practices that affect student achievement. The district will be working to identify budget reductions to meet the level of legislative funding cuts imposed while maintaining the high level of educational offering our students deserve. 3
