1 Northshore School District No. 417 Fall 2015 Northshore Networks Annual School Performance Report Mission Statement: To collaborate with parents and students to design and implement a customized and relevant education that ensures our students meet state, district and personal goals. Northshore Networks offers an academic program designed to meet the needs of students and families in a customized, personalized and independent study setting. Northshore Networks was named a 2013 and 2014 School of Distinction award winner by Puget Sound Educational Service District #121. The award recognizes the top 5% of schools in Washington state that have made sustained improvements in reading and math over five years. Northshore Networks was one of seven high schools in our service district to receive this award. Northshore Networks is also a recipient of the 2013 and 2014 Washington Achievement Award and was honored for High Progress. The Washington Achievement Awards celebrate the state s topperforming schools. Award-winning schools have at least one thing in common: the power to profoundly affect student learning. Award-winning schools are identified through the revised Achievement Index. The selection process is very rigorous, and all of us take great pride in this accomplishment. Our consulting program serves students in grades Students and parents meet weekly for one hour with a Northshore Networks highly qualified teacher who designs and implements an Individual Education Plan that fulfills Alternative Learning Education (ALE) law and state and district graduation requirements. Students in grades 7-12 are also required to attend an additional 2-4 hours of classroom cohort instruction in core subject areas. Textbooks and resources are provided. Parents also support and guide the learning process at home and ensure that students complete weekly curriculum assignments. Additionally, Northshore Networks provides an after-school fitness club opportunity called Hapkido. Our experienced and highly qualified staff is dedicated and committed to meeting the needs of students for whom the traditional learning environment is not a match. Northshore Networks is proud of the success rate of its students who must meet all state and district graduation requirements and earn their high school diploma. 2 Assessments Northshore School District administers Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in English/Language Arts (ELA) and math in grades 3-8, SBA ELA in grade 10 and SBA Math in grade 11; Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) in Science for grades 5 and 8; End-of-Course (EOC) in math for grades 9 and 10; and EOC in Biology in grade 10 to students annually in compliance with state and federal laws. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) develops or selects and administers all state assessments. It also reports achievement data for students, schools, districts and the state. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is a federal education law passed in 2001 that requires all states to create their own high standards for reading and math and that all students meet proficiency on these state standards by Washington received a federal waiver from NCLB requirements for two years, but recently lost the waiver. As a result, NCLB requirements now apply and Washington schools must meet the 100% student proficiency requirement by Northshore School District did not make AYP overall and is in Step 1 of improvement. The district continued to support the following measures to increase student achievement: consult with parents and staff in developing a two-year District Improvement Plan, reserve 10 percent of its annual federal Title 1 funds for professional development for Title 1 schools and continue to provide assistance to schools identified as in need of improvement. Northshore School District did not meet AYP proficiency goal requirements in the following cells: All, Asian, Black, Hispanic, White, Two or more races, Special Education and Low Income SBA-ELA and Math in grades 3-5, 6-8 and 11; and Limited English SBA-ELA and Math in grades 3-6. The district did not meet AYP participation goal requirements in the following cells: All, Asian, Black, Hispanic, White, Two or more races, Special Education and Low Income in SBA-ELA and Math in grade 11. School Improvement Plan Northshore Networks staff was involved in the continuous program improvement process aligning individualized learning and small group learning with district adopted curriculum, standards, assessments and changing graduation requirements. This purposeful work assured quality program options for the ultimate goal of high school graduation for our students. 1. We focused on School Board Measure 1.7, which is Increase the percentage of students on track to graduate. 2. We aligned our Student Learning Plans to meet the ever-changing state ALE requirements and state requirements through use of technology, attendance tracking, teaching of district curriculum and classes taught in core subject areas. 3. Teachers met district grading requirements by providing parents monthly academic progress using Easy Grade Pro and monthly progress reports.

Parent Involvement Facility Information Students are encouraged to look at options: community college, four-year college and/or or technical colleges beyond 12th grade. Juniors and seniors are also encouraged to pursue Running Start, WaNIC, Satellite classes or school-to-work career introduction programs. Our parents are a major part of their student s education. Our program is dependent upon parent participation as the majority of student s learning is completed at home. 5 hours per subject per week is the minimum requirement. Parent participation is required at the intake process when their student enrolls in Northshore Networks. We host a fall open house where we share program goals and acquaint parents with the variety of educational opportunities offered to students. This is also an opportunity to meet the entire staff. Every parent is involved in the face-to-face instructional sessions either weekly or monthly. Northshore Networks is located in the Northshore School District Administrative Center fulfilling the school board s and superintendent s goal to have a school program housed at the district s administration building. The facility includes a waiting area for families while students meet with their teachers for their weekly instructional consulting appointment. Classroom space is provided for group instruction in core subject areas. Additionally, a computer lab is available for class instruction and as an independent study area. The main office, classrooms and teachers offices are located on the 2nd floor.
