2 Location Malden Catholic is located within the Metropolitan Boston Area approximately five miles north of the City of Boston in Malden. Malden's convenient location allows easy access to Boston s Logan Airport and public transportation into the city of Boston. Boston, first incorporated as a town in 1630, and as a city in 1822, is one of America's oldest cities, with a rich economic and social history. What began as a homesteading community eventually evolved into a center for social and political change. Boston has since become the economic and cultural hub of New England. Robotics: "This full year course introduces students to the field of robotics and in particular, to the design, programming and use of robots to solve various problems. Students will work in teams to design, build, program and test robots to complete certain challenges, analyze performance and propose and implement design improvements. Readings, research, and submission of papers and presentations are expected. Introduction to Engineering: This semester course is designed for students who wish to explore the possibility pursuing an engineering degree in college. Several engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil, aerospace, and chemical will be explored. Students will become familiar with the engineering design process, problem solving methodology, physical and virtual modeling and approaches to open-ended problems. Special Programs Brother Kevin Program: The Brother Kevin Program responds to the individual needs of 9th and 10th grade students whose personal learning styles and academic profiles indicate they will benefit from additional support as they approach college preparatory classes. The program is designed for students who have ability but need a stronger foundation in study skills and learning strategies. Participants in the Brother Kevin Program have schedules which include a double English class, as well as a two-year Algebra I course. Students have access to a full-time learning specialist who provides organizational support and consults with the student's teaching team. St. Francis Xavier Scholars Program: The St. Francis Xavier Scholars Program recognizes and develops academic excellence, promotes intellectual exploration, provides enrichment, and inspires cultivation of a community of academic leadership at Malden Catholic. Named in honor of the patron saint of the Xaverian Brothers, known for his zeal, the Program intends to develop in its members a zeal for a Catholic values-based pursuit of knowledge. The Scholars Program Includes Four-day MC Summer Institute, Heightened College Counseling, Lecture Opportunities (Colleges or In-house), Project Development (Christian Service; Senior Thesis, etc.), Quarterly school-year seminars/lectures/field trips, Recognition (transcript notation; Banquet; Blessing Ceremony).

Cultural Exploration: Each year Malden Catholic offers an opportunity to all members of the community to participate in an international cultural trip. These annual trips are optional with a different European destination each year. In February of 2016, the destination is Italy. Students and faculty will spend nine days exploring Rome and Tuscany. Cities that students will visit are Montecatini, Florence, Siena, Venice, Assisi and Rome. Throughout the trips students explore the rich culture and history of each destination. Technology: Malden Catholic requires all students to have ipads for daily use. A variety of courses use digital textbooks. Malden Catholic features a wireless campus, which is optimal for effective use of e-textbooks. Classrooms are equipped with electronic whiteboards that provide interactive academic instruction. Language Acquisition Instruction: Malden Catholic employs a full time ESL teacher and requires international students to take ESL during their first year. Tutoring is available as well. The International student moderator works with international students on a weekly basis and also helps every senior write their essays for college on weekends. Clubs and Organizations Malden Catholic maintains many clubs and extracurricular activities. Each is moderated by a member of the faculty. Extracurricular activities are considered a crucial element of social and academic development, and students are consistently encouraged to join or start a new club. 5 Sports Malden Catholic is a Division I affiliate and has thirteen (13) varsity sports teams including Cross Country, Football, Soccer, Indoor Track, Basketball, Hockey, Swimming, Outdoor Track, Baseball, Golf, Wrestling, Tennis, and Lacrosse. Most of these sports have separate junior varsity and freshman teams. There are some sports that are more competitive than others, however in each season (Fall, Winter and Spring), there is at least one non-cut sport that is open to all students. Malden Catholic also offers intramural athletics. Athletics' Accolades: - The Varsity Tennis team qualified for state tournament 7 out of the last 8 years. - The Basketball and Hockey Teams are ranked top ten by Boston Globe and Boston Herald. - Soccer Team made division two tournament. Community Service The school places a strong emphasis on "Christian service", volunteer community service inspired by the teachings of Christ. Such service can take place in many forms. Students are required to perform a minimum number of hours of service each year. Freshmen are to perform at least 10 hours, sophomores are to perform at least 20, and juniors are to perform at least 30. Seniors take part in a unique Christian service program at the end of the year. Senior classes end in mid-april, and for three weeks after this point, seniors are required to visit a designated service site to do volunteer work for about six hours per day, for a total of 90 hours of Christian service.
