1 NYSAISAA New York State Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association TO: NYSAISAA Member Athletic Directors, and Boys Basketball Coaches FROM: Bob Annunziata, Post Season Coordinator, NYSAISAA Athletic Directors Committee RE: Twentieth Annual NYSAISAA Boys A & B Division Federation Qualifier Basketball Tournament Enclosed please find material pertinent to the Twentieth Annual NYSAISAA Boys Basketball Tournament, scheduled for March 3, 4, and 6, Note: If a play-in game is needed - Wednesday, March 2nd will be used. Please be aware that weather conditions may alter dates and times. Details relating to the tournament format and selection procedure can be found in the enclosed Policies and Information Packet. I urge your attention to this notice, especially in regard to the November 19, 2010 deadline for completing the Declaration Form. The format provides for two separate tournament division brackets designated as A & B each one which will crown a NYSAISAA champion and Federation Qualifier. * A Federation Basketball Request to Withdraw Form is available on the NYSAIS Website. The A-Division and B-Division brackets have been established for those schools who have declared themselves eligible for the federation tournament. All schools declaring Federation will continue to have their schedules reviewed by the AEC Classification Committee. The intent of the committee will be to evaluate and then confirm a school s classification into either the B or A brackets based on a school s request, success of program, and strength of schedule. The Boy s Classification Committee will meet with sport representatives from each league only if deemed necessary, to gather information regarding schools who applied. Representatives will have no voting rights. Please do not hesitate to call me or the Boys Tournament Coordinator, if you have any questions concerning this year's NYSAISAA Boys Basketball Tournament. Adopted 2010: No payment required with declaration for following sports: Soccer, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Lacrosse. Billing will take place following selection to tournament. Participation in NYSAISAA or Federation Post Season play is a privilege. Certain criteria must be met in advance of tournament play. All issues related to deadlines, declarations, and fees will affect admission and selection. Failure to meet any criteria may disqualify schools from inclusion in postseason participation. The AEC oversees all eligibility decisions and appeals. (Dec./07).

2 TWENTIETH ANNUAL NYSAISAA BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT Tournament Policies and Information Packet Thursday, Friday, and Sunday March 3, 4, and 6, 2011 Note: If a play-in game is needed - Wednesday, March 2nd will be used. Declaration of Intent to Participate: Each interested member school must declare whether or not it desires to enter the B- Division or the A-Division. 3 Deadline Date for Declaration of Intent. A & B Division (Federation) NYSAISAA member schools who desire to participate in the 2011 NYSAISAA Boys Basketball Tournament must: Send by fax, the enclosed Declaration of Intent Form no later than Friday, November 19, 2010, to Bob Annunziata, Athletic Director, Horace Mann School, (718) Deadline Date for Score Reporting Form, Team Roster Form. The Score Update Form may be used for games played after Thursday, February 24, Tournament Format: Three eight team brackets will crown three NYSAISAA Champions: a C-Division Champion, a B-Division Champion, and an A-Division Champion. The eight at-large bids for the A & B Federation Division tournament draws will be taken from those schools declared or classified as an A or B school. The eight selected teams in each division will be seeded #1 - #8, with #1 playing #8, #2 playing #7, #3 playing #6 and #4 playing #5 in the first round with the higher seeded team hosting through the semi-finals. NOTE: The selection committee is sensitive to travel hardships and will make every effort to have western and upstate schools play each other in the first round without losing the integrity of the seeding process. Additional scheduling accommodations may be made in later rounds. In the case where only one western or upstate school is selected in a bracket, that school will be required to travel regardless of seed. Tournament Sites: The Declaration Form now includes a space for a school to list its home site should they host a 1 st or 2 nd round post season contest. The ADC expects all schools declaring for post-season play to have a plan of action in place to secure a host facility should one not be available on campus. The Selection Committee shall have sole discretion as to the selection of the site(s) for its tournament games. The top-seeded team may not necessarily be awarded the privilege of hosting a tournament game if the overall availability, condition and/or court dimension of facility is deemed inadequate.

4 All Monday through Friday indoor tournament games will begin at 5:00 p.m. Exceptions can be made for weekday double headers using 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. as start times. Weekend double headers will be played at 4:00 p. m. and 6:00 p.m. (May, 2009). Sunday's Tournament Championship site will be at the Ethical Cultural Fieldston School, Riverdale, NY. Game Supervision: All schools participating at a NYSAISAA post-season contest must provide a noncoaching school employee for supervision during the game Determination of Participants: Notification of a school s classification into either the B or A brackets will be made by the Classification Committee prior to the seeding meeting. At-large teams will be selected and seeded on the basis of the following criteria: Overall record, strength of schedule, and head-to-head competition. The Selection Committee will announce their tournament teams no later than 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 28, Fees: Each school will be responsible for a tournament fee of $ (NEW) Schools will be billed upon selection to tournament.. All NYSAISAA Championships must be conducted at no expense to the NYSAISAA. Therefore, it is understood that the NYSAISAA is not responsible for any financial loss realized by the tournament. Each one of the schools participating will be responsible for covering any loss in equal amounts. If there is a net profit, the NYSAISAA shall be granted the difference to help offset administrative expense. The ADC shall be responsible for the accounting of expenses for all NYSAISAA team championships. The ADC will make available an accounting report to each participating school at the annual conference. Awards: The NYSAISAA Championship State Plaque will be presented to the overall tournament team champion in each division with 24 individual awards presented to each Champion.
