Open to 9 th 11 th graders, eligible students will work with various organizations to serve children directly, as well as holding one or two on-campus fundraisers each school year. Be a part of something more; it s time to INSPIRE! Italian Club Time: Thursday 4:00 5:00 PM Sponsor: Ms. Black/ Mrs. Apicella Cost: $65 Min: 12 Participants Recommended Grade Levels: ALL Start: 1/12/17 End: 4/27/17 Benvenuti to the Italian club! In this club we are going to have a fantastic journey through the "Italian World" to discover their art, music, language, traditions, cuisine and much more. We will learn about the best Italian artists, musicians, songs, cuisine and much more! Ci divertiremo (We'll have a fun). Ciao, A presto! (See you soon). BASIS Book Worms Time: Tuesday 4:00 5:00 PM (2nd/month) Sponsor: Ms. Palmer Cost: $40 Min: 9 Participants Recommended Grade Levels: 8 th -11 th Start: 1/10/17 End: 4/25/17 The BASIS Bookworms is a club for students to get together and talk about books. It is for students who want to share ideas about literature without the demanding assignments of an English class. The club will meet once a month to vote on which books to read and the students will lead the discussions. As a member of the club you will receive the official club shirt, as well as snacks and beverages at each meeting. Come join our book club to gain some new ideas and have some fun! Junior Statesman of America Time: Thursday (US Lunch) Sponsor: Mr. Calhoun Cost: $TBD Min: 8 Recommended Grade Levels: 9 th -11 th Start: 1/12/17 End: 4/27/17 Join JSA for the opportunity to further discuss and develop your thoughts/opinions on political matters, side by side with your peers. You will have the opportunity to speak your voice on and raise awareness on today s issues, and possibly even have a weight in the matters. This is a student lead club, that will be meeting during the upper school student s lunch period.
2 Sports Programs Non-Competitive Sports ALL ATHLETIC EXTRACURRICULARS: Updated Physical Evaluation and Medical History forms are required to be on file before any student can participate in practices and games. Coach Rubio to check if updated forms are current and valid for athletic participation this year. BASIS Cup - 5 th /6 th Grade Boys Basketball Time: Monday/Wednesday 5:00-6:00 PM Sponsors: TBD Cost: $80 Min: 11 Participants Start: 2/13/17 End: 3/10/17 BASIS Cup - 5 th /6 th Grade Girls Basketball Time: Tuesday/Thursday 5:00-6:00 PM Sponsors: TBD Cost: $80 Min: 11 Participants Start: 2/13/17 End: 3/10/17 BASIS Cup - 5 th /6 th Grade Girls Volleyball Time: Monday/Wednesday 4:00-5:00 PM Sponsors: TBD Cost: $80 Min: 10 Participants Start: 2/13/17 End: 3/10/17 BASIS Cup is a volleyball/basketball off-season opportunity for 5th-6th graders to compete against BASIS San Antonio North Central. Location address is 318 E Ramsey, There will be no tryout, however registration will be on a "first come, first serve" basis. Girls are encouraged to join the volleyball team. However, if we need help filling the volleyball roster, boys will be invited to join. There will be two teams for basketball: girls and boys. Please register your child on Smart for Charters as soon as you can to reserve your child's spot on our roster! Game days are as follows: February 24, March 3 and March 10 Volleyball game will begin at 5:30 PM and will follow with basketball games at 6:30 and 7:30 PM. Location: BASIS San Antonio North Central (318 E Ramsey, 78216) Only 3 games will be played per sport/per team.
3 Sports Programs Non-Competitive Sports Kung Fu Club Time: Tuesday (Beginners) 4:00-5:00 PM Thursday (Intermediate) 4:00-5:00 PM Sponsor: Sifu Rovira Cost: $160 - Beginners Cost: $100 - Intermediate Min: 12 Max: 18 Participants Recommended Grade Levels: ALL Start: 1/10/17 End: 4/27/17 Kung Fu Shaolin Spring session will focus on Shaolin Kung Fu content for advancing to next level and ranking in May New students will learn content to rank Green belt and experienced students will learn content for Blue or Purple belt and rank in May We will continue working with the Wushu Fan form and Bo Staff Shaolin Form, sparring techniques, and competition techniques. Kung Fu Club is a Chinese martial arts based club that focuses on Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu and Northern Animal Styles and combines cardiovascular exercise and fitness, Kung Fu forms, kicks and strikes, personal defense techniques, fitness drills, take-downs, open-handed sparring and staff sparring. Kung Fu Club is open to boys and girls of any grade level and requires a physical for participation and media release form. If your student participated in the Fall 2016 session, you will not need a physical form. This year the Kung Fu club will have several appearances during Spring Session and also competition events. Attendance is not mandatory, but encouraged. Possible events and dates below: ***Chinese New Year- 5 minute demo Thursday 1/26/17(At Mr. Lai s Mandarin classroom) ***Chinese San Antonio Gala Demonstration - 1/28 (TBA) ***World Star Chinese Martial Arts Competition- 3/25/17 Houston TX index.html (Registration Costs not covered by Kung Fu Club) ***San Antonio Martial Arts Tournament- 30 minute Demo and Tournament 5/20-21/17 at Trader s Village SA (Costs are not covered by the Kung Fu Club) ***Legends of Kung Fu National Tournament- Houston or Austin July 28-30, 2017 (Registration Costs are not covered by the Kung Fu Club) Sifu Rovira has more than 25 years of experience teaching Kung Fu to people of all ages in Puerto Rico and USA. Is certified as Senior Instructor in Pei Pai She Quan system and is also a practitioner of Chen and Yang style Taijiquan. Her deep commitment to martial arts has taken her to train directly at the Shaolin Temple, Taguo School in Henan province in China. Sifu Rovira has been placed 1 st place in the Women s Kung Fu category in numerous regional and national tournaments at the national and international level. Fan, Bo staff and straight sword are among her favorite Kung Fu weapons. Cost includes: uniform: Kung Fu Pei Pai She Chuan jersey(50/50%), Kung Fu pants and jacket, Bamboo Kung Fu fan(fan will belong to the student), registration and membership to Pei Pai She Chuan Northern Kung Fu School, and end of season party, Parent s Show and awards, belt and certification of rank.
4 Sports Programs Competitive Sports Competitive Tennis Time: Tuesday 4:30-6:30 PM Sponsors: Dr. Hamilton Cost: $180 Min: 9 Participants Recommended Grade Levels: ALL Start: 1/31/17 End: 4/25/17 Do you want to learn how to play tennis? Discover the great sport of tennis and learn how to play quickly and have fun! This club is for people who are beginners, intermediate and advanced tennis players. Participants will practice playing tennis at Raymond Rimkus Park for the Spring. The club will be competitive for the spring. Costs for the club includes extracurricular shirt, tennis court fees and tennis equipment. The club will be competitive for the spring but students will receive a separate signup for the competitions later in the spring. These competitions will be paid to USTA and are separate from enrollment. Students have to register on the USTA website. Information will be sent by Dr. Hamilton, if the team proceeds. We will have rackets and balls, but we suggest that each participant brings one according to personal size and grip preference. Each participant is responsible for transportation to/from Raymond Rimkus Tennis court and to any competitions. Requires a physical on file for participation. Competitive Softball Time: Tuesday 4:30-6:00 PM Friday 4:30-6:00 PM (extends to 6:30 PM in March) Sponsors: Mr. Theis & Mr. Lemons Cost: $275 Min: 12 Participants Recommended Grade Levels: 8 th -11 th Start: 1/17/17 End: 4/27/17 * Tryouts Required * Raymond Rimkus Park * Weather Permitting * Come try out to be part of our very successful softball team! Last year we finished tied for 3rd in the state for all Charter League teams and will be working to go even farther this year. Practices will be Tuesdays and Fridays from 4:30-6:00 PM at Raymond Rimkus Field (Friday Practice times will extend to 6:30 PM starting in March). Game times and days will vary and will be announced once they are set. There will be a minimum of (6) Charter League games plus additional 2 or 3 playoff games. We are working on scheduling an additional 2 to 5 non-charter league games. We may be in a one-day tourney which the players may have to pay an additional small fee. Players will be pushed to work hard on approving their batting, fielding, understanding strategy, and all around improved performance. Players must bring at least a softball glove (12" recommended) and softball cleats (recommend rubber). Players are responsible for their transportation to and from all field locations (some games may be as far as Houston).

Learn all the basic skills, fundamentals, rules and techniques that will develop you in to a strong golfer. Equipment Highly recommended and not included in club fee: Dress Shorts * Dress Pants * Golf Hat * Wind/Rain Jacket & Pants * Thermal Undershirt * Umbrella * Tees * Gloves * Golf Shoes * Golf Balls * Ball Mark * Towel * Sunscreen Students are responsible for their own transportation to golf practices and competitions. Golf practices will be held at Alamo Golf Club, located at 9700 Rochelle San Antonio, Texas High School CoEd Soccer (9 th -11 th ) Time: TBD Sponsor: TBD Cost: $210 Min: 13 Participants Middle School Boys Soccer (6 th -8 th ) Time: TBD Sponsor: Mr. Flechtner Cost: $190 Min: 12 Participants * Tryouts Required * Raymond Rimkus Park Middle School Girls Soccer (6 th -8 th ) Time: TBD Sponsor: TBD Cost: $190 Min: 12 Participants Tryouts for Spring competitive soccer are tentatively scheduled for January at Raymond Rimkus Park, weather permitting. We are planning to field a total of 3 teams: Middle School Boys (Grades 6-8) Middle School Girls (Grade 6-8) Co-Ed High School (Grades 9-11) Practices will be no more than twice a week at Raymond Rimkus Park, located at (6440 Evers Rd, 78238) and tentatively scheduled to begin the week of February 13, after Pre- Comprehensive exams have concluded. Texas Charter League season games begin March 21 and end with Regional playoffs (if applicable) in early-may.
6 Registration: 1. Login to parent.smartforcharters.com Extracurricular Catalogue Tips & Disclaimers for signing-up for Extracurriculars Clubs & Sports 2. At the top please click [Purchase Optional Items]. 3. Select your student s name from the dropdown menu and click [go]. 4. A list of extracurriculars will appear. Please select the extracurricular activities your student would like to signup for and click [continue]. All extracurriculars will be titled EC - Club/Sport Name 5. You will then be asked to read and agree to terms and conditions, which will open a window containing two more boxes for you to check and acknowledge that you have read/understand the statements. 6. You will then be able to check the [ pay now] option and checkout with a credit/debit card, or your checking account on file. If you do not have either on file, you will have to add a new payment method, then you will be able to finish the checkout process. 7. You will receive a confirmation once you have checked out. If you do not receive a confirmation, you have NOT successfully completed the checkout process. 8. For Questions regarding the Sports programs contact Rudolph.Rubio@BASISed.com Disclaimers: 1. Registration Deadline: Spring Clubs Start Date: Annual/Spring Clubs End: 1/6/17 1/9/17-1/13/17 4/28/17 2. No extracurricular activities will meet during Pre Comps review week, STAAR review week, and any days of school-wide testing. Notification will be sent via school newsletter and will be posted on our social media pages. These dates are predetermined and do not impact the registration fee. 3. If you have a past due balance, any payments made to SMART for Charters will be applied to your outstanding balance BEFORE any amount is applied to the extracurricular activity. If your 2015/16 SMART for Charters account has past due registration fees for another extracurricular, you will not be able to register for an extracurricular until the previous activity has been paid for. 4. Students are not permitted to wait in Late Bird AFTER an extracurricular, unless they are already enrolled in the Late Bird program. If a student is not picked up by the end of their activity meeting, they will be signed into Late Bird as a drop-in for a $20 fee. 5. Commitment: This registration form is a commitment on behalf of the student and parent. By registering for an extracurricular activity, the student is committing his time and willingness to participate until the end of the activity. Not attending meetings will not cancel or withdraw the student from membership. 6. Refunds: The Extracurricular payment IS NON-REFUNDABLE FOR ANY REASON other than the activity NOT PROCEEDING due to lack of registrations by the deadline. This includes but is not limited to the following: absences, participation in other (BASIS or non-basis) activities, scheduling conflicts, withdrawal from BASIS, or discipline or academic problems that result in exclusion from the program. The Extracurricular activity is non-cancellable once added in SMART for Charters, so be sure to select the correct activities you are signing up for. The adding of the fee in SMART for Charters indicates the student has reserved a spot in the activity; extracurricular registration must be made at the time that enroll. 7. If an activity does not proceed, the registration fee will be credited back to your SMART for Charters account and can be applied to registration in another activity that received the required minimum number of registrations to proceed. If you receive notice that an activity did not proceed and would like to change it to another, please contact Brett.English@BASISed.com.
