2 Home High School? Home High School is determined by your home address. Open Enrollment or Intra-District Transfer (opens in March) is required to change your choice of school

3 Traditional or Block Schedule Traditional Schedule: 6 classes per day for the school year. Credit requirement for graduation is 220. Block Schedule: 4 classes per day for half the school year; start another 4 classes for 2 nd half of the school year for a total of 8 classes per school year. Credit requirement for graduation is 280.

7 HS Graduation Requirement #1: CLASSES You must take and pass specific required classes to graduate!

8 ENGLISH Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Year (40 credits) of English are required for graduation. MATHEMATICS Freshmen, Sophomore (20 credits) of Mathematics are required for graduation. Freshmen must take one of the following: Algebra IA and IB, Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II. Passing Algebra I is a high school graduation requirement.

9 SCIENCE Freshmen, Sophomore (20 credits) of science are required for graduation. Ten credits must be in a life science (Biology) and ten credits must in a physical science (Chemistry). All freshmen are required to take science SOCIAL SCIENCE Sophomore, Junior, Senior (35 credits) of social studies are required for graduation. Sophomores (10 th ) are required to take World History. Juniors (11 th ) are required to take U. S. History and Economics. Seniors (12 th ) are required to take American Government and a social studies elective (Sociology or Psychology).

10 HEALTH One semester (5 credits) of Health is required for graduation. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Freshmen, Sophomore (20 credits) of Physical Education are required for graduation. All freshmen are required to enroll in PE I for one term. Students must pass the state-mandated FitnessGram or will be required to take PE each year until passed. VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS One term (10 credits) of fine arts is required for graduation.

11 Honors and ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) Academically rigorous and accelerated classes for academically advanced students Enhanced GPA Points based upon a weighted 5 point scale rather than 4 point scale (5.0 = A) Typically taken in 9 th, 10 th, 11 th & 12 th Grades

14 HS Graduation Requirement #2: CREDITS Each class you pass with a D or better, earns you points or credits. If you fail a class with a grade of F, you DO NOT earn the credits. You must retake the entire class to earn the credits. You must earn a specific number of credits in each subject area over the four years of high school to earn your diploma.

Mathematics 20 credits 10 credits in Algebra I c. World History 10 credits Grade 10 d. Science 20 credits 10 credits of life & physical e. P.E. 20 credits 10 credits for PE 1 & 10 credits in PE 2 f. 18 California High School Exit Exam English: reading, comprehension and writing an essay Math: basic math with some algebra and geometry. Taken in 10 th grade for the first time; may be retaken in 11 th and 12 th grade if you do not pass one or both sections.

23 SCHOOL-TO-CAREER DEPARTMENT COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Computer Application Advanced Computer Application Web Design Foods I Foods II Automotive Technology I Metal Technology I Metal Technology II Technology Exploration - Aviation Wood Technology I Wood Technology II Automotive Technology II WOOD TECHNOLOGY l Woods is designed to give the student a basic and safe understanding of the hand, power tool and stationary machinery used in woodworking. Through the selection of required projects, the student will be exposed to all the common woodworking tools, their proper usage, selection and safe operation. These projects will incorporate the selection of different wood species, joinery, and finishes available. Approximate material fee/donation is $ WOOD TECHNOLOGY II Prerequisite: Successful completion of Wood Technology I and teacher signature. Advanced students will further develop skills and techniques learned in Wood Technology I. Required projects will be focused on precise measurement and joint making techniques. Students will also design, draw and construct projects of their choice with instructor s approval. Approximate cost is $50 to $100 depending on choice of projects.

28 Attendance is Important You must come to school in order to pass! Missing school is the number one reason for poor grades! Studies show that those kids who come to school have better grades, are better testtakers and have higher self-esteem. Students who miss 2 or more days each month, achieve 25% less than fellow students (that s like from an A to a C)
