5 3 Lake Travis Independent School District Profile Lake Travis Independent School District is located west/northwest of Austin, TX and encompasses over 118 square miles. LTISD serves the growing area of Lake Travis, located approximately 20 miles west of Austin, Texas. Originally a component of the Dripping Springs ISD, Lake Travis ISD was formed on June 12, At that time, 541 students were enrolled in grades K Since then, District enrollment has increased to approximately 7,000 students in eight campuses, including Lake Travis High School. Lake Travis High School Profile Lake Travis High School is rated Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. LTHS is a comprehensive high school serving approximately 2,200 students in grades 9 through 12. There are nearly 200 course selections at Lake Travis and more than 50 student clubs and organizations. In addition, a strong athletic program offers participation in 17 competitive sports. Students also have the opportunity to participate in band, drill team, color guard, cheerleading, choir, orchestra, debate, theater and UIL academic activities. Lake Travis High School offers a 4x4 Alternating Block schedule which allows students the opportunity to take up to 32 credits of academic coursework. This schedule in conjunction with additional staffing has allowed Lake Travis ISD to create six Institutes of Study. These Institutes provide students with an opportunity to deeply engage in an area of study while preparing them for post-secondary pursuits.
6 4 Spotlight on the Institutes of Study at Lake Travis High School Each Institute of Study consists of a foundation core of study, a career exploration emphasis and a focus on post-secondary opportunities. These six Institutes are at the core of our comprehensive academic program at the secondary level: Institute of Advanced Sciences & Medicine Institute of Veterinary & Agricultural Science Institute of Math, Engineering & Architecture Institute of Business, Finance & Marketing Institute of Humanities, Technology & Communications Institute of Fine Arts Students are encouraged to choose an Institute and pursue an area of study in depth, but much of our Institute coursework is open enrollment. Students do not have to enroll in or graduate from a certain Institute, but we encourage every student to choose an area of study and pursue it in depth. Students indicate which Institute they are interested in through the Course Selection process during the spring of each year. Many of the rich opportunities such as job-shadowing and internships are available during the capstone (or junior/senior level) courses. Within our six Institutes, Lake Travis High School is proud to offer two nationally acclaimed curricular programs. Within the Institute of Math, Engineering & Architecture, LTHS offers five year-long Model School engineering courses through Project Lead the Way. LTHS was honored as a PLTW Model School in Within the Institute of Business, Finance & Marketing, LTHS is one of 30 schools in the nation to pilot the High School of Business program for students considering an MBA in their future. Over the last several years, Lake Travis students have earned top scores in the nation for HSB end of course exams.
