5 Graduation Requirements Provincial Exams English 10 (20%) Mathematics 10 (20%) Science 10 (20%) Social Studies 11 (20%) English 12 (40%) Final mark is a blend of the school mark and exam mark *Provincial Scholarships worth $1000 are awarded at the end of Gr. 12 based on the results of these exams.

6 Planning 10 Planning 10 curriculum: Graduation Program Education and Careers Health Finances Planning/Planification 10 can be taken in Gr. 10 or 11 Planning/Planification 10 is available at SDSS as a regular in-class course or as an Online course done through Delta Access *Planning 10 Online via SDSS must be chosen at the time of course selection*

7 Graduation Transitions Plan Personal Health Community Connections Career and Life Plus: 150 min/week of physical activity 30 hours of work experience Transition Plan (post-secondary, travel, work, etc.) Final interview The Transitions Plan is expected to be completed in the first term of their Gr. 12 year.

18 STRIVE 10 Strive Cohort 10 English 10, Science 10, Math 10 and PE 10 all taken on the same day so the teachers can plan crosscurricular activities and take the students out on fieldtrips designed for students who are interested in approaching their studies on a different path, and who are capable of working with others within the school and beyond the classroom walls. teachers will be working together as an inquiry team to make thematic connections between their subject areas. This grade 10 cohort is designed to improve student understanding and wellness in school by reconnecting them to their natural communities. working in an English, Math, Physical, Education, and Science cohort, students explore the environments of South Delta. Cross-curricular connections will emphasize experiential activities; this will involve frequent opportunities to explore ideas and curriculum in our local surroundings.

21 Implications of Math Any Math 11 course will graduate a student from high school with a Dogwood Certificate. Pre-Calculus Math is primarily for students wanting to pursue Science/Engineering based careers. For business, universities require PC Math 12; exceptions would be BCIT or Kwantlen. Foundations of Math is primarily for students wanting to pursue Liberal or Fine Arts or Business at a teaching university or BCIT.

24 Language Requirements UBC Requires a Language 11 for admission UBC Arts only - will require a Language 12 to complete a degree or 6 credits of a language in post -secondary SFU Requires an Intro Language 11 for admission UVIC No language requirement

26 Language Challenge Exams for those students with a background in Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, Punjabi, Korean, German, Italian and French they may apply to write a challenge exam to earn Language 11 and 12 credits. Application process is in the fall Exam will take place in January Exams are free to all students, except International students *Challenge exams will satisfy the Language 11 requirement for entry into Post-Secondary but the score will not be tallied into their GPA.

27 Summer School Remedial For those students who need to repeat a course 4 weeks in July 2 course maximum 1 hr 45 min. class English 9, Socials 9, Math 9, Science 9 Full-Credit 3 hour class 6 weeks in July/Aug English, Science, & Math 10 courses write Provincial in August English 10, Socials 10, Science 10, Math 10, Planning 10 Traditional and blended (some online work) options
