1 LUELLA HIGH SCHOOL Class of 2018 Senior/Graduation Information Graduation Services: Friday, May 25, :30 PM Luella High School Stadium Baccalaureate Services: Tuesday, May 22, :00 PM Location: TBA Please be aware that both services are optional. These services and the activities associated with them provide all of us a special time to celebrate the accomplishments of 13 years. All the activities associated with graduation are designed to make those days a time for final goodbyes, celebrating success and sharing with peers, family and friends. Throughout the school year, seniors are expected to abide by all school rules and policies and must make appropriate choices and act appropriately. Violations of the HCS Code of Conduct could result in the student not being allowed to participate in baccalaureate and/or graduation services. In order to participate in both Baccalaureate and Graduation ceremonies, a student must have: Completed all academic requirements for graduation (passed all classes needed for a high school diploma and taken all required, standardized tests) Settled any and all outstanding financial or uniform obligations to Luella High School. o Seniors will be notified in writing at least twice during the school year of any outstanding obligations. o ALL obligations should be satisfied by Friday, May 11. Met any other requirement(s) to be eligible for graduation from Henry County Schools. Attend all events required of the Class of 2018 graduating seniors Only students who have met all of these standards will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Fees, Fines, Payments: All fines and fees may be paid in cash, money order or through the PayPal account (debit/credit card) using the link off of the Luella High School webpage. Fees paid in cash or money order will be receipted. If fines, fees, obligations are satisfied by May 4, the senior will qualify for 2 EXTRA graduation tickets, beyond the 12 that each senior will already receive. Appropriate wardrobe for EACH of the 2 services: In order to participate in each service, a graduate candidate must wear a Jostens cap and gown ensemble. The Jostens cap and gown packet which contains LHS stole and tassel includes everything that a senior will need to be appropriately attired for both baccalaureate and graduation. The cap and gown packet costs $ Page 1 of 8

2 Dress for Ladies: LHS cap, gown, stole and tassel: The cap is to be worn flat on the head with point at the center of the forehead and tassel on the right side. Under-gown attire: Dress or slacks. Any type of dress may be worn under the gown as long as it does not show below the gown. If the dress shows, it should be a solid neutral color (white, beige, khaki, grey, navy blue, black, or brown). Slacks should be dress slacks in a solid neutral color. o White is preferred, if possible. Shoes: Sandals, wedges, dressy boots, other dress shoes in neutral colors; no tennis shoes, no flip flops, and no house shoes. Dress for Men: LHS cap, gown, stole and tassel: The cap is to be worn flat on the head with point at the center of the forehead and tassel on the right side. Under-gown attire: Dress slacks in a solid neutral color (white, beige, khaki, grey, navy blue, black, or brown). White collared dress shirt with a tie of any color; or a collarless shirt/tee shirt. The collarless shirt/tee shirt should be solid in color, with no writing or artwork. A collarless shirt/tee-shirt cannot be visible when the graduate is wearing his gown. o Dark blue or black slacks are preferred, if possible. Shoes: dress shoes or boots in a neutral color; no tennis shoes, no flip flops, and no house shoes. Cap, Gown. Stole and Tassel are not included in the Graduation Fees described below. Monday, August 28: Senior Class meeting In a senior class meeting, Jostens will present information about all of these choices and describe the order process to be used. o Please remember that Jostens cap, gown, stole and tassel are required to participate in graduation ceremonies. o All other items are optional. Thursday, August 31: Order Day Jostens will take orders during all lunches. $50 deposit is required, if full amount is not paid at time of order. Graduation Fee All eligible seniors who plan to participate in the May graduation ceremonies must pay the graduation fee, according to the payment schedule below. Beyond the graduation fee, there are several other choices that are detailed below, but are all optional. As shown by the chart, each item can be paid separately. Some will not be after the dates shown. Lion s Graduation Package includes: Graduation Fees: o Chair rental, staging and sound system equipment rental, technicians to run equipment, flowers, baccalaureate and graduation programs and tickets, diplomas, security expenses and other expenses associated with baccalaureate and graduation. Grandparent s Breakfast Wednesday, May 23 o Prior reservations are required by May 18. 3 If a senior does not take an official senior portrait, then the yard sign will have no picture. o Yard signs will be distributed on Saturday, April 28 from 10:00 AM 1:00 PM from the LHS front office. Not Not Diploma and Diploma Cover Purchase only If an eligible senior decides not to participate in either the May or July graduation ceremonies, contact the senior counselor to make arrangements to purchase only a diploma and diploma cover. Diploma Only $25 Admission Tickets for Graduation: While the Luella High School stadium is a large facility, it will not accommodate unlimited attendance. All eligible graduating seniors will be allotted 12 graduation tickets. 2 additional graduation tickets may be earned if all fines/fees/uniform obligations are satisfied by May 4. Additional graduation tickets may be earned by positive attendance and behavior. 4 Valedictorian and Salutatorian and Latin Honor Graduates Each year, final grade point averages for seniors are officially calculated at the district level as late in the year as possible. These are the calculations that will be used to designate valedictorian, salutatorian and Latin Honor graduates. Principals should receive these final grade point averages for the Class of 2018 by May 4, Luella High School will announce the Valedictorian, Salutatorian for the Class of 2018 on Monday, May 7, 2018, if possible based on when final grade point averages are received. Latin Honor Graduates will be announced Tuesday, May 8, 2018 if possible based on when final grade point averages are received. o Latin Honors are awarded based on final weighted grade point average: Summa Cum Laude = 4.0 or above GPA Magna Cum Laude = 3.88 to 3.99 GPA Cum Laude = 3.63 to 3.87 GPA To celebrate this honor, the Valedictorian, Salutatorian and all Latin Honor Graduates and their families are invited to a celebratory reception where these graduates will receive a certificate and their appropriate honor tassel on Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 PM at Luella High School. They will receive additional regalia at Senior Award Night. Senior Exam Schedule May, 2018 Seniors will complete their final exams and/or assessments during the weeks of May Senior teachers will establish the exam schedule for her/his class. The goal is that all exams and assessments will be concluded by Thursday, May 17. The only seniors required to report on May 18 are those who need to make up work, finish exams or assessments, pay financial obligations or return textbooks. Senior grades will be finalized by 5:00 PM on Friday, May 18. SENIOR EVENTS Class of 2018 August 28: Senior class meeting Jostens presents information about caps, gowns, stoles, tassels and other graduation merchandise, including graduation announcements. August 31: Jostens Order Day Jostens will accept orders for all senior items in the Commons during all lunches. o $50 deposit is required to place an order, unless full amount due is paid at the time of order. March 31: Junior-Senior Prom details to be announced later April 12: Graduation Meeting for all seniors details to be announced later. Friday, May 4: Six Flags Grad Nite Participation requires payment and permission slip completed by Friday, March 30. Reservations and payments handled through Senior class sponsors. May 7 May 11: Senior Week (last full week for seniors) Senior class officers and seniors class will determine dress up days o Students who dress up must STILL meet school dress code. Monday, May 7: Announcement of Valedictorian & Salutatorian for the Class of Tuesday, May 8: Announcement of Latin Honor Graduates. Page 4 of 8

5 Friday, May 11: Valedictorian, Salutatorian and Latin Honor Graduates Picnic during 5 th period. Invitation required. Only seniors eligible to walk at the May 26, 2017 graduation ceremony are eligible for the following activities. Thursday, May 17: Lion s Pride Walk details to be announced in the spring Gown, stole & cap with tassel will be required to participate in the 2018 Lion s Pride Walk. o ONLY graduating seniors are eligible for the Lion s Pride Walk Monday, May 21: Senior seminar Mandatory for all graduating seniors o Senior Seminar Session A 10:00 AM 11:00 AM Seniors with last names beginning with A through F o Senior Seminar Session B 1:00 PM 2:00 PM Seniors with last names with G through L Senior Honors Night 7:00 PM LHS Gymnasium o Seniors receiving awards will receive an official invitation to the Senior Award Night. Tuesday, May 22: o Senior seminar Mandatory for all graduating seniors Senior Seminar Session C 10:00 AM 11:00 AM Seniors with last names beginning with M through S Senior Seminar Session D 1:00 PM 2:00 PM Seniors with last names beginning with T through Z o Baccalaureate Services (which is a faith-based service) 7:00 PM Optional If attending, graduating senior must be dressed in standard Luella Cap, Gown, Stole and Tassel. Graduating seniors should report to the church by 6:30 PM in order to be ready to participate at 7:00 PM. Wednesday, May 24: o Grandparent s Breakfast 9:00 AM in the Commons - Optional Reservations must be made online by Friday, May 18. Reservation link will be beginning May 4 on LHS website. Catered by Waffle House Mandatory: o Graduation Practice 10:00 AM 1:00 PM Immediately at the end of the Breakfast, we ll transition to the gym to begin graduation practice. Casual dress Thursday, May 25: Mandatory: o Graduation Practice 10:00 AM 1:00 PM LHS Stadium weather permitting All graduation tickets will be distributed at this graduation practice. Casual dress Friday, May 26: Graduation Ceremony 7:00 PM all graduating and marching seniors meet in the gym for Class of 2017 portrait. 6 Luella High School has arranged with Cady Studios to take photographs of each graduate during the ceremony and a group picture of the Class of Parents and loved ones will have access to an online gallery to purchase pictures through the Cady Studios website. During the graduation ceremony, parents are not allowed on the field. Graduation Practices If a student plans to participate in the graduation ceremony, punctual attendance at all graduation practices and appropriate behavior are mandatory. In order to practice, students must have returned all books and met all financial obligations (senior fees, parking fines, books, school equipment, athletic fees, work-based learning fees, returned books, etc.) no later than Friday, May 18. Students who work or attend other schools (Dual Enrollment, Academy of Advanced Studies, and Impact Academy) must make arrangements with employers or teachers to be present at BOTH days of graduation practice (May 23 and 24 from 9:00 AM 1:00 PM). Make those arrangements to attend as soon as possible. Practice 1: Wednesday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. o Practice will begin in the gym and then proceed outside. Seniors will be instructed on which side to sit in the gym. Attendance will be taken. Practice 2: Thursday, May 24 at 10:00 a.m. o Practice will begin on the football field, weather permitting. Attendance will be taken. Graduation tickets will be distributed at the end of graduation practice on Thursday, May 24. Once tickets are given to students and they verify that they received the appropriate number of tickets, lost tickets will not be replaced. Seniors are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing to practice. Practice on the field may be very hot. Inclement Weather Plans The graduation ceremony will be held in the stadium on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 8:30 PM, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled to be held in the stadium on Saturday morning, May 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM In the event of the inclement weather preventing the service in the stadium at 10:00 AM, the ceremony will be rescheduled on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM. If weather prevents us from having the ceremony at either of these times, we will have the ceremony on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 4:00 PM in the Luella High School gymnasium. o If we must move the ceremony inside the gym - because of limited seating, each senior will have four (4) Rain Tickets to be used for 4 graduation guests as admission tickets for family and guests. Handicap Access/Golf Cart Shuttle Handicap parking is provided at both Luella High School and Luella Middle School. Luella Lion s Stadium is handicap accessible. For guests with special needs, golf carts are provided to shuttle guests from the parking lot to the entry gate and back to the parking lot once the ceremony concludes. The Golf Cart Shuttle will not be during the ceremony. All guests must present a regular graduation, admission ticket before entering the stadium. Guests with special needs may request reserved seating on the track. Page 6 of 8

7 Admission to Graduation and Graduation Tickets ADMISSION TO GRADUATION IS BY TICKET ONLY Each senior will receive a minimum of twelve (12) graduation tickets. All twelve (12) tickets may be used for the ceremony as long as it takes place in the stadium. 4 tickets will be marked as Rain Tickets, but are a part of the 12 regular graduation tickets for admission. o These 4 tickets would be used for admission to the gym in the event that graduation has to be moved into the gym (Saturday, May 26 at 4:00 PM). If we must move the event inside the gym, seating will be limited; each senior may only have four (4) guests at the ceremony. These guests must use the four (4) tickets marked Rain Ticket for entry. Gates on Pride Walk and the Stadium will open at 6:30 p.m. All guests must have a ticket for entry. Handicap Seating Reserved seating is on the track for our handicapped guests with special needs. One family member may accompany a guest with special needs in the reserved seating section. If reserved seating is required for a special needs guest + one family member an online application must be submitted. The application for reserved seating will be on the LHS website from May Complete the application and submit. o You will receive a confirmation within a couple of days. o A reserved-seating pass will be provided with the tickets on May 24. Please note: Any handicap seating/ticket is a part of the 12 tickets issued to each senior. We ask that all graduation guests be seated in the stadium. Graduation Night and Ceremony No one is permitted to stand along the fences. Graduates should arrive before 6:30 PM dressed for the ceremony in cap, gown, tassel, stole, and correct under-gown attire and shoes. No senior will be permitted to march unless he/she is dressed appropriately for the ceremony. Final Senior Class picture will be taken of the Class of 2018 before they walk on the field. The graduation ceremony is an optional, dignified, ceremony for seniors and their family and guests. We ask that every senior, parent, and guest participate in a manner that will allow each graduate to have her/his special moment on stage. Every graduating senior and her/his family and friends deserves to see her/his senior walk across the stage and hear her/his name called as she/he receives a diploma; therefore items such as air horns, cow bells, and other noise makers which may interfere with hearing a graduate s name called are prohibited. Coolers, strollers, chairs, umbrellas, etc. which may interfere with viewing the stage or are present a potential safety issue will not be permitted in the stadium. Any senior and/or guest who creates a disturbance or insists on being a distraction to others will be escorted out of the stadium by security personnel. Seniors may not alter their cap, gown, stole, tassel, or person with writing, decorations, drawings, etc. Page 7 of 8

8 Any inappropriate items found on the seniors will be confiscated or may disqualify the senior from participating in graduation. No senior who is under the influence will be permitted to march. A security officer will be to check any senior who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Seniors can be pulled from the graduate s line at any time. All car keys, cell phones, and other personal items should be left in the care of family members or friends before coming into the gym on the day of graduation. We cannot guarantee the safety of items left in the gym. Page 8 of 8
