2 Congratulations to the May Optimist Student of the Month, Ella Haas! Ella is the daughter of Chris and Nicole Haas. She participates in Beta Club, Student Council, and helps out with the track team. She also enjoys soccer, shopping and playing with her baby sister. In the future Ella hopes to attend college and become either a teacher or a social worker. Way to go, Ella! Congratulations to all of the students who participated in this year s STEM night! 4 Happy Earth Day Celebration!!!! Our Earth Day Fundraising Project was a BIG success. Thank you to all the students who donated to this project. The funds raised from each classroom were used to purchase flowers for beautifying the landscaping at both MCS and MPC prior to the graduation ceremonies at MCS and MPC. The winning classrooms for an Ice Cream Sundae in the Park were: MCS 3 th Grade/Kim Thomas MPC Pre-K/ECC Stacey Toenjes/Jess Duffy During the second week of May, the students will have an opportunity to plant in the landscaping barrels on the school campus. They continue this project by caring for the planters until the end of the school year. This gives them an opportunity to see the outcome of their watering system as the flowers bloom and grow. It is open enrollment for the Panther Place Summer Program. The program offers a hot lunch, a variety of activities plus field trips to many St. Louis metro area attractions. More information is available on the MCCSD #160 web site. 5 Science Olympiad is competing in the Illinois State Tournament April 29th at the University of Illinois Champagne. They will be competing against 48 other teams from the state of Illinois. The team members are: 8th - Annie Feazel, Natalie Hampsten, Aly Riley 7th - Kennedy Brooks, Katie Connolly, Gabe Kurfman, Noah Landry, Will Weck 6th - Jerry Aplin, Evan Arnold, Brock Becker, Chloe Brown, Margaret Elliot, Shanan Riley and Jude Thomlinson Good luck team! MCS Graduation Ceremony Tuesday, May 23 rd at 7pm Note: All 8 th grade students book fees, library fines, and lunch charges must be paid in full prior to graduation. MPC Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony Tuesday, May 23 rd at 9am

6 Congratulations to all the 5 th grade D.A.R.E. Graduates! A special congratulations to the winners of the essay and poster contest! The Essay winners were: Ryan Connolly, Sophia Eggers, Olivia Gettinger, and Emma Williams. The Poster contest winners were: Ally Brooks, Perrilynn Cory, Sophia Eggers, Olivia Eiskant, Lizzy Elliot, Ella Feazel, Taylor Godsy, Olivia Gettinger, Sam Peters, Ian Pitrie, Owen Renneker and Amelia Snyder. From the Cafeteria... We would like to thank everyone for participating in the lunch program. Reminder: The cafeteria will not be accepting any lunch charges the month of May. We would appreciate all outstanding charges be paid in full by Monday, May 8th. If a student has outstanding balances, report cards can be picked up by parents following the end of the school year. Students will not be eligible for school extracurricular activities, field trips, athletics, etc. until balances are paid in full. Please make every effort to prepay at the beginning of each week by sending a check or cash in an envelope with your child's first and last name, grade and teacher clearly marked or pay online through E-Pay on our website. Thank you! Lost & Found Items Every year we have an abundance of items turned into the Lost & Found. They are on display tables located in the back of the multipurpose room. Please remind your child to check the tables for any items they may have lost throughout the school year. If the items are not claimed by the end of the school year, they will be donated to a local charity. It really helps to put names on clothing labels, lunch boxes and backpacks.
