1 The Ohio County Board of Education met for the regular monthly meeting Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at the central office. The following members were present: Barry Geary/Chairperson, William Eddins/Vice-Chairperson (Arrived at 6:10), Bradley Beatty/Member, Jeff Evans/Member, and Dwight Raymond/Member CALL TO ORDER. Chairperson Barry Geary called the meeting to order APPROVAL OF AGENDA. Bradley Beatty, seconded by Dwight Raymond, made a motion to approve the agenda. The motion carried unanimously. (4) APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 18, 2010 MEETING. Dwight Raymond, seconded by Jeff Evans, made a motion to approve the minutes from the February 18, 2010 meeting. The motion carried unanimously. (4) APPROVAL OF TREASURER S REPORT. Jeff Evans, seconded by Bradley Beatty, made a motion to approve Treasurer Brian Decker s report, which showed a beginning balance January 31, 2010 of $7,491, with receipts of $2,162, for a total to spend of $9,654, Expenses were $2,221, leaving a balance February 28, 2010 of $7,432, The motion carried unanimously. (4) REQUEST TO SPEAK. No one requested to speak SUPERINTENDENT S REPORT. Superintendent Ralph congratulated the Boys and Girls Basketball teams for their success this season. Superintendent Ralph recognized Coach Paul Decker for being named the Boy s 3 rd Region Coach of the Year by the KABC (Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches). Coach Decker will be recognized at the Boy s State Basketball Tournament along with the other Regional coaching selections. Congratulations to Coach Decker and his Eagles on an outstanding year. Superintendent Ralph recognized Kaley Griffith for being named the MVP for the rd Region Girl s Basketball Tournament by Grange Mutual Insurance and the Sweet 16
2 Radio Network. Kaley received a plaque, and a $ check will be presented to OCHS. Superintendent Ralph recognized the Ag Dept at OCHS for being in the top 10 performing schools in the AG Ed program based on skills standards. Superintendent Ralph recognized Davis Sandefur who competed in the State Academic Meet this past weekend in Math. Davis did very well and placed in the top 25 to 30 in the state. Congratulations to Davis and the Academic team Coach Ms. Jackie Taylor. Superintendent Ralph recognized the KY Tech Ohio County Skills USA Club that competed in the Skills USA District 3 Skills Competition on March 2, She recognized the following students: Showcase of Student Writers: First Place winners: Lucas Smith - Electrical Technology Brock Hart - Machine Tool Zachary Sorrels - Welding Second Place winners: Randy Matthews - Carpentry Rocky Hart - Electrical Technology Ryan Lindsey - Information Technology Daniel Matthews - Welding Technology Third Place winners: Wayne Goodman-Automotive Technology Jonathon Kent-Carpentry Casi Fairchild, a 5 th grade student at Horse Branch Elementary, read an on demand response writing. Sara Hope, a 5 th grade student at Western Elementary, read an on demand writing. William Eddins/Board Member arrived at 6:10. School Presentation: OLD BUSINESS. Render Center Robbie Asberry, Program Director, reviewed the difference in the Day Treatment Program and ALP Program and the curriculum used at Render Center. a. Sanitation Bids Superintendent Ralph reviewed the options for sanitation services. The Board directed Superintendent Ralph to
3 work with the City of Hartford to schedule sanitation services. The services are to start the first day of April. b. Approve BG2 and BG3 For Project # and Contract Documents for Restroom Project At Ohio Co. High School William Eddins, seconded by Dwight Raymond, made a motion to approve the BG2 for Project # Ohio Co. High School Restroom Project as recommended by Superintendent Ralph. The motion carried unanimously. (5) William Eddlins, seconded by Bradley Beatty, made a motion to approve the BG3 and the Contract Documents for Project # Ohio Co. High School Restroom Project as recommended by Superintendent Ralph. The motion carried unanimously. (5) c. FY10 Budget Update Superintendent Ralph updated the Board on changes to the FY10 Budget. (Attachment) NEW BUSINESS. a. CONSIDERATION OF A RESOLUTION William Eddins, seconded by Bradley Beatty, made a motion to adopt the following resolution: Consideration of a resolution to enter into a contract rent and option with the Ohio County School District Finance Corporation, enter into a participation agreement with School Facilities Construction Commission and to adopt all other documents in connection with the proposed bond sale. The motion carried unanimously. (5) RECESS William Eddins, seconded by Bradley Beatty, made a motion to recess for the purpose of convening a meeting of the Ohio County School District Finance Corporation. The motion carried unanimously. (5) CONVENE Jeff Evans, seconded by William Eddins, made a motion to convene a meeting of the Ohio County School District Finance Corporation. The motion carried unanimously. (5) 1. New Business: a. CONSIDERATION OF A RESOLUTION William Eddins, seconded by Dwight Raymond, made a motion to adopt the following resolution: Consideration of a resolution to authorize the sale of bonds for the purpose of refunding the Series 1999A Bonds as a cost savings to the District, and to authorize all other documents in connection with the sale of the bonds. The motion carried unanimously. (5)
