1 EQUIPERCENTILE METHOD ILLUSTRATION SESSION 1 EASY PAPER Suppose 20 candidates appeared for the examination in Session 1 which was relatively Easy. Following table shows the scores of the candidates out of a total of 50 marks. 2 According to the Table above 20 students scores have been tabulated and their ranks calculated accordingly. Now using the Ranks of all the students, Percentile Ranks will be calculated How can you calculate your Percentile Rank? SESSION 2 DIFFICULT PAPER Now Session 2 is a difficult paper. 24 candidates gave this paper. 4 1. A Cut off Percentile Rank is Fixed depending on available vacancies. This can vary from (0-100%) IBPS will now fix a cut off percentage. 6 Thus we can clearly see that 5 students from session 1 ( who have higher total scores) and 6 students from session 2 (who have lower total scores ) have qualified on the basis of their Percentile Ranks. Thus it really doesn t matter if you got an Easy paper or a Difficult one, if it is easy it is easy for all, if it is difficult it is the same for all. Scores will be Normalized to adjust for difficulty levels across sessions. WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU? What really matters is how you score relative to others in your session, i.e. what is your rank in your session, It doesn t matter if your friend in some other session has scored more than you. 1. Try to solve each question to the best of your ability. 2. Don t bother about whether you got an Easy paper or Difficult paper- Scores will be normalized across sessions. 3. Don t be distracted by what your friend has achieved in terms of no. of attempts etc in some other session. Focus on Your Exam 4. Don t feel that you are at an advantage because you are attempting the paper on a later date, similarly don t feel disadvantaged if you have attempted the paper on an earlier date.
