The purpose of the Lunch with the Legends is to raise funds to accelerate serving the youth and coaches of Central Ohio. We come along side the students/athletes and coaches helping them deal with life issues from a Biblical perspective, enabling them to become better leaders in their communities. The Quantum Leap vision for Central Ohio FCA is to impact 20,000 students and 1,000 coaches weekly across 400 High and Middle school campuses and to serve 2,000 summer campers. We are excited to be honoring Coach Tom Ryan, head wrestling coach at The Ohio State University as the 2017 Legend. 2 About the Event: This is a unique event in a casual atmosphere where you can socialize with some of the past Legends, enjoy stories and a short program with an inspiring keynote speaker. Why we do what we do... The youth of today are dealing with peer pressure, bullying, drugs and alcohol, loneliness, etc. Coaches are dealing with intense pressure for wins along with the stress coaching puts on their families. FCA is devoted to helping the youth and coaches deal with these challenges as they are confronted with difficult decisions and choices. The monies raised will help fund the four areas of ministry that FCA focuses on to build up the youth and coaches in Central Ohio, Campus, Coaches, Camps, Community. Tom Ryan, 2017 Ohio Sports Legend Honoree Coach Tom Ryan is a celebrated Coach in the wrestling world. Some of his highlighted accomplishments include a National Championship Team and Big Ten Championship Team in He has coached six different athletes to ten national championships, along with coaching 16 NCAA finalists. Throughout his years as head coach at OSU, he has been named Coach of the year three times. In addition to his outstanding coaching record and high athletic standard for his athletes, he holds a high standard for his athletes academically as well. Of the many athletes, six Buckeyes have been recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association with NWCA All-Academic Team accolades. And Since Coach Ryan s arrival at OSU, there have been 48 and 96 Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete selections. Coach Ryan also puts emphasis on community service. He encourages his athletes to get involved in the community. They are involved with the Second & Seven Foundation, which strives to "Tackle Illiteracy" in Central Ohio and the annual Wrestle against Autism Tournament. Along with these great organizations, Coach Ryan and some of his athletes have volunteered at various FCA events in Columbus to encourage young wrestlers to go for their highest potential in all areas of their lives. Coach Ryan is all in as has spoken many times about his faith in Jesus Christ and for FCA. On a personal note, Coach Ryan has made some great accomplishments and has been recognized throughout the years. Prior to coaching at OSU, he was the head coach at Hofstra from , Where he earned the Eastern Collegiate Wrestling Association and Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year honors seven times as well as named New York State Coach of the Year two times. Coach Ryan has shown such character on and off the mat, with support from his wife Lynette, and four children, Jordan, Jake, Teague and Mackenzie. 3 Congressman Jordan: Jim Jordan was raised in Champaign County, Ohio, graduating from Graham High School in 1982, where he was a four-time state champion in wrestling with a career record of He went on to earn a Bachelor s Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a twotime NCAA wrestling champion. He later earned a Master s degree in Education from the Ohio State University and a Law Degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. In Congress, Jordan has also emerged as a prominent defender of the taxpayer s pocketbook through his work on spending issues. In 2009, he introduced the only balanced budget alternative to President Obama's budget. As one of the most conservative members of Congress, his efforts have earned him recognition from Citizens against Government Waste, Family Research Council, Americans for Tax Reform s Friend of the Taxpayer Award and the 2012 Weyrich Award for National Legislator of the Year. George Beshara: At 98 years old, George is living a life of legacy. He is an Ohio State alumni wrestler from He is a veteran of the Korean War and has served in the military overseas and domestically for most of his life. He started his first teaching job at Bedford High School in Bedford, Ohio and started a new wrestling program. As a coach, he led the State of Ohio Championship Team for 4 years and was a 3 time Ohio High School Wrestling Champion. JD Bergman: Ohio State alumni and part of the Team USA wrestling team, he is an accomplished athlete and a strong supporter of outreach in the community. Bergman was a four time NCAA qualifier and three time NCAA player, including finishing second in the 2008 NCAA D1 Wrestling Championships. Bergman has been on seven USA World teams (top 3 finish in the World/Olympic trials), in Greco-Roman. Bergman is also a two-time Cerro Pelado champion (2010 and 2015), and a 2014 Brazil Cup Champion. Ben Buchanan: Graduated from Ohio State with a career ranking fourth all-time in school history in punts (177) and yards (7,286), and his 41.2 career average ranks eighth in school history. He is currently an Ohio State Sport Management Doctoral (Phd) Student, and a current broadcaster for ABC/NBC. He was also the 2013 FCA Central Ohio Athlete of the Year. Sue Ramsey: In the spring of 2015, Sue Ramsey retired from an illustrious 35 year coaching career. For the past 20 years she has served Ashland University as their Head Women s Basketball Coach. Coach Ramsey s final record as a head coach is (.579). The and seasons were particularly memorable as the Eagles won the Division II national title (2013) and finished as the Division II national runner-up (2012). She was honored as FCA s 2015 Ohio Sports Legend. Kyle Snyder: Kyle is the youngest Olympic gold medalist as well as the youngest World Champion in American wrestling history! Snyder is also the youngest wrestler ever to win the World, NCAA, and Olympic championships in the same year. Kyle has achieved excellence in his academics with the Academic All-Big Ten and OSU Scholar-Athlete awards. William White: He received his Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from The Ohio State University. He was starting cornerback from and team captain in White was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1988 and played professionally for 11 years. He ended his career with the Atlanta Falcons after Super Bowl XXXIII, where he led the team with 13 tackles. Since 2001, White has served as a director at Trazer Technologies, Inc., a world leader in the use of computer-based simulation for the improvement of health, physical performance and fitness of everyone. He was honored as FCA s 2011 Ohio Sports Legend.
