1 ANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL CAC Regular Meeting Minutes September 13, 2016 ATTENDANCE MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE : See attached membership list OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: Visitors and Invited guests: Megan Tesano, AHS Assistant Principal Public commentators: None Call to Order 4:48 p.m. PROCEEDINGS FOLLOWING AGENDA Member Sign In Announcement that attendance will count this year since out body is so large. Missing three meetings is ground for removal Reminder of purpose and goal of CAC: we are an advisory council, not a policy-making board. Ms. McNamara directed members to the back of the agenda where more information regarding AISD CAC s was listed Citizen Communication None Approve Minutes from Previous Meetings Minutes May 4, 2016 Regular Meeting Unanimously Approved Student Concerns (Please abide by 2 min rule.) Casey McCormick, President of Senior Class shared that she heard rumors there would be a change to finals exemptions and alternative completion projects. She continued that students still have concerns about the punitive feel and burden of 9 exams and asked for this subject to be added to the agenda for our next meeting. Jordan Thompson, class student member, expressed concern about parking and exiting the student parking lot. Students are only allowed to leave through the exit by the Tennis Courts all students are limited to use of one exit which causes traffic issues and she suggested the campus reopen the available gates at the end of the day for more flow of traffic.

2 CAC Member Concerns (Please abide by 2 min rule.) MaryBeth Lee expressed concern about waiting 5 days to hear about the alleged sexual assault which occurred near campus. Stacey Thompson shared that her sophomore student was disappointed because she cannot attend the sophomore pep rally since she is in a mixed class with other grade levels and must attend with a different grade. DAC Update Ilisha D Souza Ilisha D Souza as student representative to the DAC reported on the activities of the DAC. More elaboration on the AISD scorecard based on national assessments. Discussed more data and confirmed that AISD is either above or meeting the national average in every category of evaluation. Reviewed the Strategic Plan and members had some comments and revisions. Principal s Report See ATTACHED Power Point Principal Sammi Harrison Report on campus Anderson High school again scored in top 500 high schools in nation by Newsweek - #256 in the nation: Based on holding power, college enrollment, graduation rate, weighted and rigorous course work, AP?IB coursework, SAT/ACT scores. Student population: --Freshman is the largest class = 596/ Sophomore = 548 / Junior=570 / Senior=514 --Demographers predicted growth of near 500 people in the next 3-4 years transfers TOTAL: Breakdown is the following: Curriculum: 58 / minority-majority:94 / sibling:53 / teacher-staff:18 / tracking:71/ bilingual:46 / general:13 STUDENT POPULATION TOTAL: 2228 with 180 NON-AISD students, --IB: 58 students, still doing better than the international average in IB schools, AHS passing rate for diploma is 96%. World rate is 81% Student sharing: See power point for numbers on students leaving AHS for other campuses and the curriculum they re pursuing.

3 Canvas: an update on the campus moving to Canvas was given by Mr. Frazier. AHS staff and AISD is working with the Canvas organization for gradebook function for staff and rolling out parent access so parents no longer have to use student s log-in. Safety Concerns Principal Harrison discussed protocol and safety plans, specifically regarding the incident last week regarding the sexual assault of a student off-campus but near campus. Principal Harrison informed members that she is legally bound to restrict her communications to messages approved by law enforcement and AISD. Mrs. Harrison introduced parents to a Remind communication direct from her so they can receive messaging regarding campus safety and events Construction Cafeteria was offline for food production for 7 days instead of the predicted 2 days. But construction on the cafeteria and dock area is now completed. Large scale light fixture replacement on 1 st floor, restrooms remodeled with the exception of outside restrooms which will be completed shortly. Funding was from 2012 AISD Bond. A question was raised regarding the rocks in the back of school which led to discussion and update on the potential turf field for the AHS practice field. The project has been slowed due to concerns for the environment raised by the City of Austin. Pep Rallies Principal Harrison shared the schedule for the 4 planned pep rallies which includes one in the Spring for Spring sports and one for Homecoming. Still concerns about not having enough room for students and difficulty of scheduling for 4 grade-level pep rallies. Principals Announcements of upcoming dates and events: Trojan Spirit Fest Saturday - 9/17/16 T-STEM grant from Educate Texas for the Applied Technology Building will be used on efforts correlating curriculum and our graduation pathways. TSI testing will be done on campus this is an initiative to ensure graduates are ready for college study and not in need of remedial education once in college. TSI testing will be available for students who have not already passed AP test or taken the SAT/ACT which are also helpful indicators of college readiness. Homecoming Dance October 15 at Red Oak Ballroom, jointly funded by PTSA and hosted by Leadership Council. Gayla Stuart will Chair the event. Old Business none New and Continuing Business

4 Campus Improvement Plan Ryan Zysk AP Zysk presented the Campus Improvement Plan in detail, explaining the process of this working collaborative document. Mr. Zysk explained each section, each strategy for improvement in that section, and the data that will be used to determine if goals for that section were met. AP Zysk explained the method for CAC feedback and shared that the CIP needs to be presented to AISD in October. The CIP Draft is attached to these minutes. Professional Development Plan Megan Tesano AP Tesano discussed and shared the Professional Development Plan. A handout on the guiding goals and strategies was presented to the CAC members and is attached to these minutes. Attendance enforcement Megan Tesano Enforcement of 90% attendance is still in effect. Students with potential no credit situations are being contacted by counselors and administration with strategies to make corrections before the semester ends. Adjournment 6:01 pm.
