6 Course Selection Things to Remember: You must enroll in a minimum of 6 classes For Team Sports and TA s you must get a coach s or teacher s signature Please write three alternate electives on course selection sheet- next year we will have 3,400-3,500 students at SMHS. Classes will fill quickly! Fill out an application for: ASB, Newspaper, Yearbook or AVID

7 Reminder about W/L at Palomar If you take a foreign language at Palomar (Spanish 101, French 101 or ASL 100/101), it is strongly recommended you take the second level as well (102). Palomar summer term starts on June 26.

8 HONORS/AP DROP POLICY NEW POLICY! For AP/Honors level changes If you want to change a level (for example: AP/Honors to college prep) you must fill out the AP/Honors Change Request Form and submit the completed form to the AP office. Get the form from your AP/Honors teacher. Students have the first 3 weeks of first semester in order to drop from honors or AP into college prep. * Dropping an AP/Honors course requires a parent meeting with an Assistant Principal. Students have the first 2 weeks of second semester to drop from honors or AP into college prep.

10 Math Pattern STATS/ AP STATS Due to significant content overlap, students cannot receive credit for both Pre-Calc and Math Analysis

11 New VAPA Electives Advanced Drama (P)* This course provides an opportunity to explore acting at the college level. Students will be responsible for selecting and working on monologues and scenes. They will also produce and create their own productions based on personal interest. History of Rock Through Performance (P)* This course is a historical and performance based overview of the musical and cultural influences of the rock genre from the 50 s to today. Students follow the history lectures and presentation with performances of key songs from different eras by learning basic techniques on guitar, bass and drums. This course is designed to be followed by Digital Music. *Pending Board/UC Approval

12 New Electives AP Physics II* An algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students cultivate their understanding of Physics through inquirybased investigations as they explore topics such as fluid statics and dynamics; thermodynamics with kinetic theory; PV diagrams and probability; electrostatics; electrical circuits with capacitors; magnetic fields, and more.

13 New CTE electives cont.- Computing with Robotics (P)* This course introduces to foundational knowledge of robotics. Students learn to control robots through a graphical user interface and computer programs in C/C++ Intro to Engineering (P)* Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science and engineering standards to hands-on projects. Sports Medicine (P)* This competency course is designed to introduce the student to the medical terminology theories, principles, and hands-on field experience involved with the rapidly growing field of Sports Medicine. *Pending Board/UC Approval

14 New CTE Electives cont. Computer Software Engineering (P)* This course aims to develop computational thinking and generate excitement about career paths utilize computational thinking. This course can be a student s first course in computer science. Computer Science Applications (P)* CSA focuses on integrating technologies across multiple platforms and networks, including the internet. Students work primarily in Java. This course prepares students for AP Computer Science A course.

16 CHOOSE CAREFULLY!! Students are given two weeks to look through the Online Course Catalog and ask questions of parents, teachers, and counselors before making course decisions. Allocation decisions for the following year are based upon student requests. Please understand that you will not be able to make changes to your schedule once this school year ends, unless it is a level change due to grades or summer school attendance. All courses are year-long courses!

Outside credit form available in counseling office. Please note that off campus courses cannot be used to meet subject area graduation requirements: elective credit only If you would like to take a Palomar or Mira Costa College course, please get the K-12 form signed in the counseling office.
