88 (front cover photos - clockwise) Boys enjoy playing at the La Sierra Child Care Center in Visalia. The Child Care Educational Program operates 45 centers for preschool children throughout Tulare County. With help from the Network for a Healthy California, students at Palm Elementary in Orosi and several other schools have formed Nutrition Advisory Councils to promote healthy eating and physical activity. Upper grade students conduct classroom cooking demonstrations and fun activities in the cafeteria to encourage students to eat fruits and vegetables. The SEE Youth Program operates a challenge course at its facility in Visalia. Facilitators conduct team-building exercises for student and community groups. (back cover photos - clockwise) Hundreds of girls in grades 4-9 attend the annual Expanding Your Horizons Conference each year to learn about careers in the fields of science, engineering, math and technology. All presentations at the conference are conducted by women working in these fields. Teachers can receive autism authorization training to work with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The training, offered by the New Teacher Development Program, is one of several certifications new and veteran teachers can obtain locally. Educational Resource Services has recently introduced trainings for teachers who wish to incorporate LEGO Robotics into their science curriculum. Mission Statement The mission of the Tulare County Office of Education is to provide quality service and support to the students and school districts of Tulare County. This is achieved by promoting life-long learning opportunities that will help individuals lead healthy and productive lives. We are dedicated to work in a collaborative manner with students, parents, school districts, public agencies and communities to prepare students to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.
