5 Report of Principal and School Improvement Council The school year was an outstanding one for North Myrtle Beach High. The following were accomplishments achieved by the students and staff of NMBH: The athletic programs were exemplary. Teams winning region championships included football, volleyball, boys basketball, girls track, boys golf, baseball, wrestling, and boys cross country. The wrestling team finished the year as Lower State champions. Three wrestlers won individual state championships. A number of athletes were chosen all-region, as well as all-state. NMBH was chosen to receive the Sportsmanship Award for the region. The PTO met monthly and provided incentives for students and staff. The School Improvement Council was instrumental in suggesting and helping to implement needed improvements. The fine arts department excelled. The drama, art, and music department presented The High School Musical to sold out audiences. The band, orchestra, and chorus did well in competitions, as well as school performances. Five teachers earned National Board Certification. In all, eight teachers have earned this designation since the program began. The number of advanced placement course offerings increased. NMBH continued to be a member of the SREB High Schools That Work. The senior class earned 4.5 million dollars in scholarships this year. The Lodging Management Team placed first in the state and second nationally. Junior and senior projects continue to be the vehicle to enhance service learning in the community. An academic incentive, The Best of the Best, was begun to recognize high scores on the ACT and SAT. North Myrtle Beach High continues to be an outstanding institution for young adults. With continued support of school patrons, commitment of the staff, and high levels of effort by students, North Myrtle Beach High should become one of the state s premier high schools.
