1 THE 2017 ACTIVE SCHOOL Active School promotes physical activities including outdoor activities and sports, and the adoption of safe and ethical behaviour in schools. The objective of this initiative is to encourage public and private preschools, elementary and secondary schools, and school childcare services to diversify or improve the quality of the indoor and outdoor physical activities and sports for as many students as possible. Only one project can be submitted per request; however, a school may submit more than one request. It is important to provide a detailed description of the project in the form. Eligible projects All new projects or improved versions of existing projects with a cost below $ that cover one of the following: The development of indoor or outdoor spaces for the practice of physical activities and sports (e.g. schoolyard, outdoor sports field, outdoor obstacle course or expert track, bicycle racks, psychomotor room) The purchase or repair of equipment or materials for the practice of indoor or outdoor physical activities and sports (e.g. balls, snowshoes, cross-country skis, slackline, soccer or hockey nets, basketball baskets, nets, tennis racquets and balls, circus equipment, stationary bicycles, canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes) The development of indoor or outdoor spaces, the purchase or repair of equipment or materials designed to enable or help students with disabilities to engage in physical activities and sports (e.g. purchase of adapted equipment or materials, modification or set up of a play area) The improvement of safety or protection of well-being in the practice of indoor or outdoor physical activities and sports (e.g. purchase of protective materials or equipment, water-safety courses, raising student awareness of good sportsmanship, bicycle safety) Ineligible projects and expenses Projects with a total cost exceeding $ Projects related to the organization of specific events (e.g. races, tournaments) Expenses related to items that do not directly encourage physical activity (e.g. park benches, picnic tables, scoreboards, banners, uniforms, food) Salary-related expenses (e.g. release time for teachers, trainers, facilitators or coaches), with the exception of projects connected with heightened safety or protection of well-being Expenses incurred before the date on which the awarding of financial assistance was confirmed Transportation-related expenses, with the exception of water safety projects Project evaluation criteria The project must promote the practice of indoor or outdoor physical activities and sports by as many young people as possible, especially those who tend to be less physically active or not active at all. 2 The project must fall within the scope of one or more measures that are planned and recognized by the school (e.g. the Healthy Schools approach, educational project, schoolyard project). The project must be tailored to the students needs and interests, especially those of students who tend to be less physically active or not active at all. The project must facilitate access to the practice of indoor and outdoor physical activities and sports, both for the school s students during different times of the day and for the members of the community. The project must give due consideration to student with disabilities. The project must promote the development of motor skills. The project must bring facilities or equipment into compliance with safety standards or it must promote safe and ethical student behaviour in the practice of indoor or outdoor physical activities and sports. The project must involve the students. The project must be carried out in conjunction with one or more partners (human or financial resources). The project must be intended to continue beyond the year it was first carried out. A realistic estimate must have been made of the project s cost. The project must be described clearly and concisely. The project must be innovative. Financial assistance Each school with a selected submission will receive financial assistance of up to 75% of the project s total cost, to a maximum of $ The project s total cost must not exceed $ Financial assistance will be disbursed approximately six weeks after the Unité régionale de services en matière de loisir, sport, plein air et activité physique (URS) receives all the supporting documents. Schools will have until March 17, 2018, to submit the supporting documents for their projects to the Unité régionale de services en matière de loisir, sport, plein air et activité physique (URS) for their region. These documents must be consistent with the project description presented. Active School is made possible by the Sport Development and Participation Bilateral Agreement between the government of Québec and the government of Canada.
