Harris helped lead the Midshipmen to a first-place team finish at the Navy Invitational this past weekend. The senior ran the 800m in an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:51.83, which earned him a first-place finish in the event. M-F ATHLETIC FEMALE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK JANICA AUSTIN, LAFAYETTE Fr., Trenton, N.J. Austin began her first collegiate outdoor season with a strong showing at the Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C. The freshman finished fourth in the 100m hurdles in a time of seconds. The time broke a 24-year old school record, and also qualified her for the ECAC s. M-F ATHLETIC MALE FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK DARRYL HUNTER, NAVY Sr., Des Moines, Iowa Hunter earned two first-place finishes at the Navy Invitational last weekend. He reached a distance of 16.36m in the shot put and also reached a distance of 49.55m in the discus throw. Both marks were IC4A-qualifying distances. M-F ATHLETIC FEMALE FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK ASHLEY HARBIN, LAFAYETTE Sr., Clarksville, Tenn. Harbin, who dominated the indoor season in the Patriot League, continued her success to start the outdoor season at the Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C. Harbin reached a distance of 59.36m in the hammer throw, which was good enough to make her the top collegiate finisher in the event. The throw qualified the senior for the ECAC Championships and also secured her a spot in the NCAA East Regional Meet at the end of May. M-F ATHLETIC MALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK ALFRED MCDANIEL, ARMY Fr., San Antonio, Texas McDaniel started the outdoor season with an impressive debut at the USF Bulls Invitational in Tampa, Fla. this past weekend. McDaniel finished first in the triple jump, reaching an IC4A mark of 14.60m. He also finished third in the long jump (6.70m) and sixth in the 100m dash (11.05 seconds). M-F ATHLETIC FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK CARISSA HAUCK, ARMY Fr., Watertown, S.D. Hauck finished first in her first collegiate race on the outdoor track, as she won the 400m hurdles at the USF Bulls Invitational last weekend. Hauck ran the race in a time of 1:05.87 to secure the top spot in the race. 2 HONORABLE MENTION PERFORMANCES LAST WEEK GERYAH WHITE, ARMY Jr., Tampa, Fla. White had an impressive homecoming last weekend for the Black Knights, as she reached an NCAA East Regional-qualifying distance of 14.40m to place second in the shot put competition at the USF Bulls Invitational. PATRIOT March 25, page 2 PATRIOT NOTEBOOK OFF AND RUNNING Six of the eight Patriot League schools have started their 2008 outdoor schedule so far, with Bucknell and Colgate set to open things up this Saturday. Several teams will send student-athletes to the Maryland Invitational this weekend, while the Colgate men will take on Princeton and Navy in Annapolis on Saturday. NCAA EAST REGIONAL QUALIFYING MARKS It is just over two weeks into the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field season, and several student-athletes have already snagged a trip to Tallahassee, Fla. for the NCAA East Regional Meet on May Check back here each week to see who will be making the trip: - Ashley Harbin, Lafayette - Hammer Throw (59.36m) - Geryah White, Army - Shot Put (14.40m) FOR MORE INFORMATION NCAA Outdoor Regional Qualifying standards can be found on the Track and Field page on the Patriot League website, along with the top times in the Patriot League this season. 3 TEAM NOTEBOOKS PATRIOT AMERICAN The American men and women both traveled to Annapolis this past weekend to compete in the Navy Invitational. The men finished fourth of five teams, while the women finished fifth of five. Senior Brendan Fennell finished first in the men s 1,500m run to lead the way for the men. Senior Kate Lilley (800m) and junior Meghan Mason (1,500m) each placed fifth in their respective events. The Eagles will send runners to the Maryland Invitational and the Raleigh Relays this weekend. ARMY The Black Knights traveled to the USF Bulls Invitational this past weekend for a non-team scoring event. Freshman Domonick Sylve placed third in the men s 110m hurdles with and IC4A-qualifying time of seconds, while teammate Kevin Kumlien finished first in the javelin throw with an IC4A mark of feet. The star of the meet for the women was junior Geryah White, who finished second in the shot put with a distance of feet. The throw was the fourth-best in Army history, and qualified White for the ECAC and NCAA East Regional as well. BUCKNELL The Bison will start their outdoor season this weekend when they compete in both the Maryland Invitational and the Susquehanna Invitational. COLGATE The Raiders have yet to start the 2008 outdoor season, but will do so this weekend when the men travel to Navy for a threeteam meet and the women travel to the Ithaca Invitational. Senior Kyle Rougeot placed first in the men s 5,000m run in a time of 15:35.26, while sophomore Tiffany Reid finished first in both the 100m (12.89 seconds) and the 200m (26.72 seconds). The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Amherst, Mass. for a five team meet hosted by UMass. LAFAYETTE The Leopards made a trip to Conway, S.C. to open their 08 outdoor season at the Shamrock Invitational. Freshman Janica Austin placed fourth in the 100m hurdles in a school-record breaking time of seconds. Senior Ashley Harbin reached a distance of 59.36m in the hammer throw, which was good enough to qualify her for the NCAA East Regional Meet at the end of May. Sophomore Seamas McGuire led the men with a third-place finish in the javelin (58.78m). The Pards travel to East Stroudsburg University for a meet this weekend. LEHIGH The Mountain Hawks traveled to Annapolis last weekend to compete in the Navy Invitational. The men finished the meet third of five teams, while the women were second of five teams. The men were led by Khalil Uqdah, who placed first in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 5.05m. Pacing the women were Latasha Watson and Shannon Alejandro, who recorded first-place finishes in the 400m and 5,000m, respectively. Lehigh travels to Rock Hill, S.C. this weekend for the Winthrop Invitational. For the women, sophomore Amy Watson recorded a first-place finish in the 10,000m with an ECAC-qualifying time of 37: The Navy men host Colgate and Princeton this weekend, while the women travel to the Maryland Invitational.
