5 What information is used to determine if a student loses one or more electives? Based on 7 th Grade - STAAR scores SRI (Lexile reading levels) CBA/DPM (Benchmarks) Teacher recommendation Grades

6 If a student loses an elective(s), he/she will be required take one or more of the following classes: Reading Workshop (1 period class) Math Lab (1 period class) READ 180 (2 period class)

10 IMPORTANT Guidelines for Enrolling in Boys or Girls Athletics for 8th Grade Eighth graders are required to complete a minimum of one semester of a Physical Education course. All students may register for the general PE class, however, to register for 8 th grade Athletics, the student must have: Played on the Football team in 7 th grade or Played on the Volleyball team in 7 th grade or Played on the Basketball team in 7 th grade or Qualified for participation in a Track or Cross Country meet in 7 th grade Girls and Boys must have their online paperwork filled out in Rank One between the dates of May 1 st 10 th before they will be registered for the Athletic Course

11 Guidelines for Athletics for 8th Grade Parents must fill out the 3 online forms. The three forms are: 1. UIL Signature Page 2. CFISD-Emergency Card Information 3. CFISD-Electrocardiogram Consent If student did not meet the above requirements but wants to participate in Athletics as an 8 th grader in Volleyball or Basketball, they must try-out and make the team before their schedule will be changed to include Athletics pending receipt of an Athletic Physical and Rank One documentation. **First time football players must see Coach McKay for approval. If a student wishes to participate in Cross Country and/or Track in the 8 th grade and the did not meet the requirements in 7 th grade, will be able to participate in practices and qualifying meets, but will not be placed in the athletic classes.

18 The K-Level Student: Is a hard worker who is self-motivated to produce quality work Is willing to work hard outside of class so the class time can be spent on more than the basics Wants to be prepared for more difficult High School courses Enjoys a challenge in his or her reading, writing and thinking

19 Removal From K-Level Courses 74 or lower semester average A grade of F for any grading period Parent removal - two opportunities to drop during grading period (progress report or report card)

20 K-Level Math Rule If student is not in K/H Math this school year and wants to be in Algebra I next year, student must: * make a grade of 85+ in on-level Math (consider teacher/counselor advisement) AND * attend Summer School and score 80+ in acceleration course

30 Registration Dates Registration presentations to students on March 6 th or 7 th during Texas History Registration sheets are due on March 8 th with parent signature. Course verification sheets will go home in the beginning of May for corrections and parent signature. Some electives will be closed after first selection round. No elective changes after May 30!
