2 FORECASTING is the process of selecting classes you wish to take during the next school year. It is a plan that prepares you for college, work, and your goals for the future. During high school, you have the opportunity to make many choices and decisions that will impact your future. Forecasting is one of these opportunities.

5 The right classes open more doors! The classes you take in high school determine the postsecondary opportunities available to you. More credits and more rigorous classes (Honors, AP, or college credit) usually mean a greater number of schools you can apply to, and often more scholarships, too!

The Course Description Guide should be used to acquaint you and your parent/guardian(s) to: SHS s graduation requirements (page 3) SHS s program offerings and course descriptions (page 11-24) Your 4-Year Education Plan (page 4) SHS s policies and procedures (page 7-10)

8 The school s master schedule (what classes are offered and when) is built around the classes students forecast for. It is essential that you make requests for classes that you are genuinely interested in attending.

13 (Now it s your turn freshmen!)

16 No need to forecast for Advanced Leadership. If you are elected as a class officer or ASB officer (ASB Elections will be held on March 17 & Class Elections will be held on April 27), your counselor will speak to you after the election about Advanced Leadership.

17 If you re currently in AVID, make sure and forecast for AVID again next year! If you would like to be in AVID (current freshmen only), pick up an application in the counseling office.

18 You must audition for Chamber Choir (auditions will be held soon). You can forecast for Chamber Choir, but only students that audition and are selected for Chamber will be placed in the class. Be sure to put Men s Choir or Belladonnas as alternates, if you want a choir class and you do not make Chamber.

19 You can take community leadership one semester each year. Applications are in the counseling office.

REGULAR SEMESTER Complete your required Health credit in one semester! J-TERM Gain one extra elective choice during the regular semester schedule!

20 REGULAR SEMESTER Complete your required Health credit in one semester! J-TERM Gain one extra elective choice during the regular semester schedule! Lose out on two J-Term courses. You will NOT get to choose what period you will take Health during J-Term and may lose out on a J-Term course you want.

21 Teacher Assistant positions (Junior & Senior students only) will not be forecasted for. You may fill out TA applications (in counseling office), but you will not forecast for it. If you want Work Experience (Junior & Senior students only), please talk to your counselor during one-on-one meetings. If you need credit recovery, your counselor will work with you during your one-on-one meeting. USE A PENCIL when filling out Forecasting Form! Counselors may need to fix mistakes.

22 You will meet with your counselor for a one-on-one meeting to go over your forecasting sheet and review your transcript. 3/20-3/21-10th grade forecasting one-on-one meetings 3/22-3/23-9th grade forecasting one-on-one meetings Turn in your forecasting forms early in the counseling office!

23 If you misplace your Course Description Guide or Forecasting Sheet, you may print off new ones on the counseling website (Academic Tab).

24 This will be the final year of the SHS Green Cord Program- Annual 100 hour Community Service Program. Community Service is VERY valuable. We have added a new way for you to keep track of your own community service hours on the SHS Counseling Website (Home Page). Please feel free to use the electronic or hard copy version of the Activity Tracker to keep an up-to-date log of your activities/service hours for college applications and scholarships!

25 Please pick up a Course Description Guide and the correct Forecasting Form. Freshmen will pick up the Forecasting Info on the table outside the auditorium on the left. Sophomores will pick up the Forecasting Info on the table outside the auditorium on the right table. Turn in completed Forecasting sheets in the counseling office beginning tomorrow!
