2 BACKGROUND Sport NSW is proud to launch the NSW Sports Awards for The Sports Awards have been running since 1994, and serve to celebrate the achievements of athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and organisations on an annual basis. Members are invited to nominate individuals, teams, and organisations within the award categories - after which an independent selection panel will determine the finalists and winners of each award. Following the success of the inaugural event in 2017, the NSW Sports Awards and the NSW Hall of Champions induction will once again be presented at the NSW Champions of Sport ceremony held on Tuesday 27 November 2018 at Rosehill Gardens. NOMINATIONS Conditions of entry for all award categories Nominations must be endorsed by a Sport NSW member organisation, such as; State Sporting Organisation, State Disability Sporting Organisation, Regional Academies of Sport or Associate Member of Sport NSW (ie. local councils, industry bodies etc). We encourage you to identify potential nominees within your organisation s network. However, please note that only one nomination per award category can be lodged by each member with the exception of those members who represent more than one sport. All fields must be completed on the online nomination form and additional documents submitted will not be considered. Each nomination is to be accompanied by two high resolution images (jpeg or png file format, 1MB or larger). One portrait and one action (if applicable). Sport NSW retains the right to add nominations and may cancel a category if insufficient nominations are received. Sport NSW may use information provided within the nomination including imagery for publicity purposes and as best practice case studies. This may include traditional and social media as well as communications for which you assign rights to Sport NSW for this purpose. Nominations close Sunday 7 October 2018 at 11.59pm. Nominations are to be completed online at Nominations are for achievements from 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018* *Note: Allowance for winter sporting codes achievements post 30 September will be considered (ie Grand Finals etc) 2

3 LIST OF AWARD CATEGORIES The program consists of 13 categories: CATEGORY CATEGORY 1 Athlete of the Year 8 Organisation of the Year 2 Athlete of the Year with a Disability 9 Local Council of the Year 3 Young Athlete of the Year 10 Event of the Year 4 Young Athlete of the Year with a Disability 11 Coach of the Year 5 Masters Athlete of the Year 12 Official of the Year 6 Team of the Year 13 Administrator of the Year 7 Team of the Year with a Disability Please note that the Volunteer Director of the Year and Distinguished Long Service Awards are now recognised at the NSW Community Sports Awards held annually at NSW Parliament House. JUDGING The NSW Sports Awards Selection Panel will consist of at least four people including representatives from, but not limited to: o o o o Sport NSW Sports industry Office of Sport Media The selection panel will short list nominees to a group of finalists and choose a winner in each category The decisions of the Awards Selection Panel are final WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT AND PRESENTATION Sport NSW will inform all finalists within each category and the list of finalists will be publicly available via the Sport NSW website. The NSW Sports Awards will be presented at the NSW Champions of Sport ceremony on Tuesday 27 November 2018 at Rosehill Gardens. 3

4 AWARDS CATEGORIES - Conditions of Entry and Criteria Nomination Period 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018 ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Awarded to an athlete for outstanding achievement at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. ATHLETE OF THE YEAR WITH A DISABILITY Awarded to an athlete with a disability for outstanding achievement at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. YOUNG ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Awarded to a young athlete for outstanding achievement at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. Nominee must be no older than 21 years of age as at 30 September

5 YOUNG ATHLETE OF THE YEAR WITH A DISABILITY Awarded to a young athlete with a disability for outstanding achievement at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. Nominee must be no older than 21 years of age as at 30 September 2018 MASTERS ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Awarded to a masters athlete for outstanding achievement at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. Nominee must meet age level classification based on the specific sport s guidelines as at 30 September 2018 TEAM OF THE YEAR Awarded to a team for outstanding performance at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. Nominee must be based in NSW Significance of achievements and impact on their sport and the wider community *Please note that this is for State, National and / or International level achievements. The Community Team category is now part of the NSW Community Sports Awards program. 5

6 TEAM OF THE YEAR WITH A DISABILITY Awarded to a team with a disability for outstanding performance at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. Nominee must be based in NSW Significance of achievements and impact on their sport and the wider community *Please note that this is for State, National and / or International level achievements. The Community Team category is now part of the NSW Community Sports Awards program. ORGANISATION OF THE YEAR Awarded to an organisation for outstanding achievement and excellence in the nomination period. Nominee must be a NSW State Sporting Organisation, NSW State Disability Sporting Organisation or Associate Member of Sport NSW Performance in competition by athletes / teams Key events run during the period Key initiatives in teamwork, leadership and volunteer management Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity in terms of: o Providing opportunity and seeking to address diversity in administration and governance of their sport ie. staff and board diversity o Developing programs to address equality for the inclusion and participation of all people ie. women, CALD communities, indigenous, disabled and the disadvantaged Business growth and diversification of revenue streams 6

7 LOCAL COUNCIL OF THE YEAR Awarded to a NSW Local Council for excellence and innovation in the promotion of sport and active recreation within the nomination period. Nominee must be a Local Council Member of Sport NSW Excellence and innovation within the local community in promoting a wide variety of sports, active recreation and healthy living Sport and / or active recreation events run during the nomination period Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity in terms of: o Providing opportunity and seeking to address diversity in the local community through sport and active recreation programs o Providing equitable access to sport and recreation facilities to all members of the community EVENT OF THE YEAR Awarded to an outstanding sporting event in the nomination period. Nominee must be a Sport NSW Member and have conducted a sporting event held within the state of NSW Size and scale of event (including logistical arrangements and estimated economic return) Attracting State, National and / or International level athletes Partnerships with government, corporate and community Media Exposure Promoted a healthy culture providing a fair, safe and inclusive environment. COACH OF THE YEAR Awarded to a coach for outstanding performance with an athlete and / or team at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. Level of competition/s coached Outstanding achievement/s of athlete/s and / or team/s Athlete engagement and promotion of a healthy culture in a fair, safe and positive high performance environment. *Please note that community coaches are recognised under the Community Coach category as part of the NSW Community Sports Awards program. 7

8 OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR Awarded to an official / umpire / referee for achievement in officiating at State, National and / or International level in the nomination period. Level of competition/s officiated Major tournaments / championships officiated Show leadership including mentoring / education of other officials ADMINISTRATOR OF THE YEAR Awarded to an individual who has displayed outstanding leadership in the management and / or administration of their sport and / or organisation in the nomination period.
