4 Even if students took PSAT s as a Sophomore, they should plan to take them again as a Junior! Only the Junior Year PSAT s will count toward National Merit Scholarship eligibility. They are a great way to practice for the SAT s. The PSAT is only given once/year in October. PSAT scores are NOT reported to colleges.

16 Friday, January 12 Sunday, February 4 th Student Portal open for Course Registration by students ALL COURSE REQUESTS MUST BE ENTERED BY STUDENTS BY SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2018 AT 11PM February 5 March 2, 2018 Counselors will meet with students individually to review course selections, prerequisites, and graduation requirements.

17 Tuesday, March 13, 2018 Verification sheets will be available on student portal. Thursday, March 15, 2018 Students making changes should return changes/signed Verification form to Advisor. Verification Sheets only need to be returned if student is making changes to their course requests.

18 No changes will be made to student course requests after March 22, Changes in course requests will ONLY be honored for the following two reasons: 1) Failure to meet a course prerequisite; or 2) A level change NO OTHER CHANGES WILL BE PERMITTED. PLEASE CHOOSE COURSES CAREFULLY.

19 Counselors are visiting all English classes (end of 1 st semester, beginning of 2 nd semester) to give instructions to students, and answer questions. Counselors will meet with students INDIVIDUALLY between February 5 and March 2 to review requests, make changes, and answer questions. Students are expected to have entered their courses into the Portal, and to be ready with any questions.

You must meet the prerequisite grade for the course you wish to enter. If you do not, you may need to repeat your current course.

32 All students must take 3.0 credits of science. All students must take Biology (and the Keystone). Most colleges are looking for 2-4 years of science, and often at least 2 lab sciences Please check prerequisites (math and science grades) for higher level science courses. AP Biology and AP Chemistry are each 3 marking periods, so plan accordingly.

33 All students must take at least 1.0 credit each year. Practical Social Studies, or as recommended by Case Manager. 34 Students who completed.5 PE credit in 9 th grade, and.5 PE/Health (Course #7061 or 7062) in 10 th grade, have met their PE graduation requirement. Students are encouraged to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, and to take advantage of the PE Electives available in CB throughout their high school years. If you request two.25 PE electives (like Team Sports and Lifetime Sports), you may not get both courses, and therefore you may get a study hall opposite one of the PE electives.

35 Music runs all year, every other day, for 1.0 credit. If you are taking music (choir, band, orchestra, etc.), it is likely that you may have one or more study halls opposite your music class. CBW offers several A/B course options to run opposite music; however placement in those courses can not be guaranteed.

36 While Central Bucks does not require language credit for graduation, most colleges recommend AT LEAST two consecutive years of a language. Many selective colleges require 4 years of language. Talk to your language teacher about the next appropriate course in your sequence. Consider starting a new language! You can choose from: Latin 1, Spanish 1, or Chinese 1.

Each Department (English, Science, etc.) has electives. You need 10.75 total electives. Extra credits you take in a required category will count toward your Elective Credit.

For example, if you take 5 science courses, three will count toward the required Science credit, and 2 will count in the Elective category. Pick electives wisely you can not drop or switch them (due to Course Change Policy). Read the last bullet one more time.

38 Electives allow students to explore new areas, gain critical skills, and pursue areas of interest. READ THE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS for all courses in the Program of Studies, and don t rely on the course title to convey the course content. These might be the most important courses you take at CB West.

39 Students attending MBIT will select their English, Math, Science, and Social Studies courses for next year. They will select MBIT We will adjust for AM or PM sessions in the summer. MBIT students need.5 credit of PE to graduate. If they took that in 9 th grade, they do not have any additional PE requirements.
