6 Language Arts: 4.0 credits Math: 3.0 credits Science: 3.0 credits Social Studies: 3.0 credits PE: 1.0 credit Health: 1.0 credit Electives: 8.0 credits Career Development:.5 credit Senior Project:.5 credit (At least) 24 credits to graduate!.5 credit = one semester class 1.0 credit = full-year course EXAMPLE: A requirement of 3.0 credits of math to graduate means you need to pass 3 years of math!

7 Grades F is a failing grade, earns no credit D is a passing grade, does earn HS credit Will not help you towards college Still negatively affects your GPA Think about you grades NOW! Middle School DOES MATTER! Sets you up with good habits for high school HS can be a fresh start, but you need to practice NOW What GOOD habits do you need to develop? What do you need to improve? Use your planner! Do your HW every day! It is practice of the concepts Study for upcoming quizzes and tests!

14 World Languages Not required for graduation Recommended for those pursuing 2 or 4-year college in the future It is not a guarantee that you will get a World Language course in 9 th grade If you are in Spanish 1, you must get your current teacher s signature to move on to Spanish 2 Some of you may be recommended to repeat Spanish 1 If you earn credits from STAMP, that will determine the next level for you to take

15 Spanish Literacy 2 (full-year course) Designed for students who speak Spanish at home, but may struggle with Spanish reading and writing skills You will work on reading and writing skills with other heritage speakers You can take the STAMP (proficiency) test and earn Spanish credits for your transcript Not appropriate for students who only speak Spanish at a beginning or early intermediate level

16 Several classes can be taken for one semester or for the full year: Art 1 Machine Welding 1 Woodwork Technology 1 Drafting 1 Please indicate how long you want the course: One semester should say (.5) All year should say (1.0) If you want to get to year 2 of the course (example: Art 2), you need to plan on a full year (1.0)

17 What Glencoe courses might match up with the career path that you are interested in? What new things do you want to explore? Electives are listed your forecasting sheet and are organized by category Don t just pick what your friends pick!

19 Help you to explore electives Prepares you for career options Provides valuable experience in that field or industry Software, guest speakers, equipment Can lead to internships or job experience Each of you will need to pick at least one to complete by senior year Please explore different courses each year!

22 Completing Your Forecasting Form:

23 All of your required choices need a Electives will be at the bottom of the form in order of preference #1 is the first thing that will go into your schedule Your required credits and top elective choices should add up to 8.0 total Count Seminary as a credit for this purpose The rest of the electives that you list will be considered as alternates

24 Language Arts: 4.0 credits total for graduation If you are on an IEP, you may have another selection made for you by your case manager

25 Science: 3.0 credits total for graduation If you are in Geometry or above for 9 th grade (and did very well in Algebra 1), you can take Physics 1 or Physics Science sequence is: 9 th : Physics 1 or Physics 10 th : Chemistry or Accelerated Chemistry 11 th : Biology or AP Biology You need these 3 specific credits of science for graduation Other science courses will count as elective credit

26 Math: 3.0 credits total for graduation Math Recommendations: Your teachers have made a recommendation for you based on the course your in and your understanding of the material counselors will verify your choice with your teacher recommendation

27 Social Studies: 3.0 credits total for graduation What is the right choice for you? World Studies vs. AP Human Geography: Advanced Placement = College-level course Interest in social studies (although it is not history) Willingness to complete at least 2-3 hours of homework per week Course requires good study habits in order to be successfulif you are not willing to do any work outside of school it will not be a good fit Interest in earning college credit while in high school Can be taken at any grade level, so there is no rush!

28 PE: 1.0 credit total for graduation You must select PE 1 for 9 th grade Elective PE courses (Strength Training or Team Sports) do NOT count for your PE credit Also Team Sports is different than playing a sport If you are planning to take this online, please write that on your form and discuss with your counselor when you hand in your form on Friday

29 Completing Your Forecasting Form:

30 Electives: 8.0 credits total for graduation You have room for 3.5 elective credits Choose wisely! It is likely you will get a combination of your top choices and alternates We do not allow a schedule change if the class was on your forecast form! Don t forget Seminary, if needed If you were accepted into AVID, put that at the top of your electives

31 Each line should be 1.0 credits Either a 1.0 credit class or 2.5 credit classes

33 Bring the folder and your forecasting form with you to school on Friday, April 6 th! GHS counselors with meet with you in your Social Studies class to collect Ask us any of your questions then! Parent Signature is needed on your form
