Selecting Courses 4
5 Most confusing thing about transitioning to the High School is BLOCK schedule. Most courses are one semester (Aug-Dec or Jan-May) Each course is one credit Each year you have the opportunity to earn 8 credits Choose courses wisely, class changes are difficult Schedules are put into the computer in the order they are received Ask questions if you have them Freshman Year 5
6 1. Math: Algebra I (all year), Algebra I Accelerated (1/2 year), Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors 2. Science: Integrated Science, or Integrated Science Honors 3. Social Studies: World Geography or AP Human Geography 4. English: English I or English I Honors 5. Health/PE: must take as Freshman 6. Electives: Most will have two to choose. Freshman Year 6
7 One of the measures of success for Conner High School is our Graduation Rate. Graduation Rate refers to the number of students who graduate in four years. Once you enter in August, the clock starts ticking, and it is your job with our help to be able to graduate on time. That s why earning credits and staying on grade level is so important. Graduation Rate 7
8 Why Graduate? The Financial Impact 8

We also have remediation programs through Star Reading and Star Math as well as Reading Assistant and Fast ForWord. These course will be used to replace one or both of your electives if needed Remediation Classes 19
20 In Kentucky, colleges and universities look for a certain set of courses successfully completed to determine admission this is known as the Pre-College Curriculum (PCC) Conner s Graduation Requirements meet or exceed the PCC with one exception: Foreign Language is not required to graduate, but it is required to meet PCC a student must have 2 credits of the same foreign language Spanish ( 6 levels) Latin (6 levels) German (6 levels) Students who are interested in applying for the Kentucky Governor s Scholars Program should consider taking Foreign Language by the end of the Sophomore year. NOTE: Arts and Humanities is listed on PCC not all schools use it for admissions A/H curriculum at Conner is embedded within Language Arts and Social Studies coursework Foreign Language and Pre-College Curriculum 20

It currently houses students from all Boone County schools, Walton-Verona, Williamstown, and Lloyd high schools. Current programs offered include Welding, Diesel Mechanics, Electricity, Metal Fabrication, Applied Machining, Automotive Technology, and Health Sciences/Nursing. This is a selective program each school is given a finite number of spaces to fill with potential candidates. At Conner, we form a committee to review applications and determine placement at the ATC. Committee members look at applications, GPA, Attendance, and Behavior as factors for selection. Juniors and Seniors are allowed to participate in programs at the ATC. Most programs have industry certifications and college credit available. Boone County Area Technology Center 23
24 Grade Point Averages are calculated based on final grades earned in courses. GPAs are calculated on an unweighted and on a weighted scale. Weighted GPAs are used for class rank, while many colleges use unweighted GPAs for admissions and scholarships. GPA is calculated from the 9 th grade forward colleges will see your grades from the outset. It is important to do well in all classes even as a Freshman, as it may have an impact on your future plans! Grade Point Averages 24
