It is hard to believe that it is already December. Congratulations goes out to Mr. Foth and the entire Music Department and cast for this year s musical performance of Shrek. The show was extremely entertaining, had a tremendous message, and reminded me of the outstanding talent that lies within our school. As the winter sports and organization seasons get underway, I wish each of our students and teams the very best as they begin their competitions. I would also like to congratulate Ms. Karen Acker, Ms. Laura Schmidt, and Hortonville High School for being recognized as the Top Large School Blood Donation Site by the Community Blood Center. The award reminds me of the outstanding staff leadership and supportive students that we have within our high school. December marks the start of the scheduling process. Students in 9 th, 10 th, and 11 th grades will be having class meetings during the week of December 4 th. Once each class has had their meetings with our school counseling team, the registration process will open up in Skyward and students and families will be able to register for next year s classes. This process will remain open for approximately six weeks. It is our hope that each student will have their schedule for next school year by the middle of May. Lastly, we are once again in preparation for our 11 th Grade ACT Assessment in late February. As part of this preparation, we are conducting a practice ACT Assessment for all 11 th grade students that will be administered during our Early Release Day on December 6 th. As part of the practice test, students will be given the Reading, Math, English, and Science tests. It is expected that the results will be returned to the school prior to our Holiday Break and we will then provide these results to students and their families. As always, I encourage all parents to communicate with teachers and monitor Skyward. All of these can contribute to greater success in the classroom. The end of the semester is going to creep upon us all very quick. When we return from our Holiday Break, we have two weeks of classes and we are then already into Finals Week. 2 Parent Forums In order to keep parents informed on issues concerning the High School and also answer questions that parents may have about their child s education, high school administration will be holding monthly parent forums on the second Monday of each month in the High School Library from 5pm to 6pm. In December, the Parent Forum is scheduled for Monday, December 11 th. Among the topics that will be covered are our ACT practice test for juniors, standards-based grading, Outdoor Stadium Project, and the new Academic and Career Planning program. If you have any questions, please contact the high school office at Parents/guardians: Did you know that in addition to checking your child s grades on Skyward, the teachers may also be sending home messages about daily homework, due dates for long term projects and/or s about make up work due to absences? These Skyward s work off of information in our district system utilizing your address. PLEASE check your Skyward account status to ensure that your address is current and operating. Have your child do the same, so you do not miss out on important information. DIRECT TELEPHONE NUMBERS REPORT ABSENCES & ALL ATTENDANCE ISSUES ATTENTION Parent/Students: All absences must be called into the Student Services Office at by parents or guardians. Phone lines are available 24 hours a day. Please leave a message. NO PAPER NOTES will be accepted (except doctor s excuses which are accepted anytime and are required after 10 days of absence). HIGH SCHOOL OFFICES COUNSELING OFFICE FOOD SERVICE TRANSPORTATION Students who become ill at school So, you send your student to school to try to make it through the day even though they are not feeling just right. In order to be sent home, all students MUST go to the nurse s office. The nurse will then contact a parent for instructions or pick up. Your student is the Hortonville Area School District s responsibility and the arrangements must be made prior to the student s departure. EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION PARENTS: If you have any changes to your personal or emergency contact information, please call the District Office at or Mrs. Weber at shanaweber@hasd.org as soon as possible. These changes would include name, home address, home telephone number, cellular phone number, address, employer name, work telephone number, and emergency contact names and/or telephone numbers. We want to always be able to contact you as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency, so your assistance in keeping all of your information up to date will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

3 yearbooks are ordered through the student s fee account. Payment of $35 by cash or checks can be issued to Hortonville High School or HHS and given to the high school main office. If you are unsure regarding your order, please contact the high school office at Senior Photos The Yearbook Staff needs to receive your digital graduation pictures (jpeg format) from the studio or you by: December 1, 2017 In order to have a color picture included in the year book; the photo must meet the following requirements: The photo must be a vertical pose Hortonville yearbook staff does not require a traditional head and shoulders pose, but please select an appropriate pose that will reproduce well. Pictures of the student from farther away or with a car, animal, etc. can look very small on the photo page in the yearbook. All photos must be school appropriate, including, but not limited to, the clothing, pose, background, and any included wording. Note: Tight close-ups of the face do not tend to print as well as other poses, as your hair and/or chin may be cut out of the picture. Remember, most studios will send your yearbook picture directly to the Yearbook Staff. Check with the studio to see if this is their policy. Please give them the below to use for submission. If you do not want a studio photo, a photo done by a family member or friend will work as well; just follow the above requirements. The best way to submit a photo is by ing it to the following address: seniorpictureshhs@gmail.com Please name the photo as: last,first.jpeg Please do not photos directly to Mrs. Acker as they may get lost in the SPAM filter. 5 Snowmobile Safety Classes Snowmobile Safety classes will be held at Hortonville High School in room G135 from 6:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on December 7 th, 14 th, and 21 st. Please pre-register at

6 Notes from the Counseling Office College Applications Parents of seniors going on to a two and four-year college or technical college, remind your son/daughter about completing application forms and keeping an eye on priority deadlines. Please also remind your son/daughter that they should be requesting their transcripts to be sent to the colleges that they are applying to through Career Cruising. Scholarships The scholarship list is updated weekly and available on the counseling department website and in the counseling office. Senior Reminder Reminder- seniors should be sure to check with Mrs. Alix regarding service learning hours (36 volunteer hours are required for graduation). Service hours must be completed by April 15, 2018 for seniors graduating in May PSAT Results The Counseling Office anticipates receiving the PSAT test results shortly before or after Christmas break. We will do a group interpretation and then students will get their results to take home. Students should listen for an announcement. Results for anyone not attending the group interpretation will be mailed home. Junior Conferences The Counselors are currently meeting with all juniors to go over graduation requirements, credit reviews, and post-graduation plans. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. If you have not already done so, please call to schedule your junior conference with your counselor Course Registration The counselors will be meeting with all students, in the auditorium, the week of December 4 th to talk about course registration for next year. Beginning the week of December 11 th, counselors will be available in study hall and commons to meet briefly with students and by appointment with those who do not have a free period. Course registration will also be the focus of the December 14 th ACP lesson for grades Students will then need to enter their courses online through Skyward Student Access. The window will be open from December 5 th through January 8 th.
