REGISTRATION FOR CLASS OF 2019 CLASS OF 2020 CLASS OF 2021
SCHOOL COUNSELORS Tammy Hanby Jennifer Stovall Laura Elliott Justin Ferguson A-Di Do-Kh Ki-Re Rf-Z
SCHEDULING High school is the educational road map to your future. Select courses that take you to your destination. Think about where you want to be after High School work, military, college Set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely) Find details about additional course options in the Westerville High School Academic Planning Guide located online at or see a hard copy in your School Counseling Office.
COURSE SELECTION Upperclassmen will receive recommendations from classroom teachers for continuation in required courses. Students choose electives and other academic courses. The master schedule is created based on student selection of courses. It is so important to choose wisely! If there is not sufficient interest in a particular course, it will not be provided during the upcoming school year!
STUDENT COURSE LOAD Every student must be enrolled in the following each semester: At least five credits of coursework (with P.E., six) An English course (your English teacher s recommendation) A math (your math teacher s recommendation) A science (your science teacher s recommendation) Social Studies (your social studies teacher s recommendation)
REASONS TO SCHEDULE WISELY Courses prepare you for more rigorous courses throughout your high school and post-secondary experiences. Colleges and universities are more likely to consider you if you take extra Science, Social Studies, and a Foreign Language beyond core requirements. Taking more classes than is required may help to offset lower ACT scores and/or lower class rank. College admissions are looking for seniors who do not minimize their course load in their senior year. Solid coursework makes you a more competitive applicant for admission and scholarships.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS SUBJECT CREDITS English 4 Mathematics 4 (Must include Algebra 2) Science Social Studies Health.50 3 (One physical, one life or biological, and one other) 3 (Including Am. History, World, and Govt.) Physical Education Elective Courses.50 (2 semesters/.25 credit each) **PE waiver must be completed by winter of senior year 5 (1.0 Fine Art Credit) Earning an Ohio High School Diploma
HONORS DIPLOMA Be sure to review the honors diploma requirements located on on pages 7-8 of the High School Academic Planning Guide. APG (Honors Diploma Changes beginning 2019) If you are interested in the honors diploma be sure you are scheduling the appropriate courses to meet the requirements.
WHAT CREDITS DO YOU NEED TO GRADUATE The counseling department is here to assist you but it is your responsibility to monitor your progress and be knowledgeable of your remaining credits.
