A product of visionary heads, the school is secular in nature and believes in imparting education free from all reservations and prejudices. The student body is culturally Indian. It is part residential thus extending opportunities to outstation students as well. The hostel is only for boys School Modern School Barakhamba Road enrolls 2500 students in grades 6-12 with a graduating class of 380. The average number of students in each section of a class is 40. The school academic year starts from April and closes in March. However, the class X and XII graduate in the third week of May. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It offers a secondary curriculum from class VI- X, at the end of which the students take the AISSE (All India Secondary School Examination). Thereafter they progress to the Higher Secondary Stage for 2 years and graduate after taking the AISSCE (All India Senior School Certificate Examination.

2 Curriculum: All courses bear the same level of difficulty. This means that the courses are not honors accelerated etc. The courses studied bear the same rigor and are of equal weightage. Classes IX and X Subjects/Courses: 5 subjects are taken of which two must be languages 1. English. Compulsory for all. 2. Second language: the student can opt for a native or foreign language. Most popular options are Hindi, Sanskrit or French. 3. Mathematics with laboratory work 4. Sciences with Laboratory Practical Physics, Chemistry, Biology. 5. Social Science History; Geography; Economics and Democratic Politics Additional Subjects: -Computer Science & Applications, Socially Along with these subjects the student takes classes in Computer Science & Applications, Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) and Physical and Health Education and receives a Co-Scholastic grade on it. Syllabus: Please see the website: for detailed syllabus. All subjects have classes with project and assignments. Generally the students study these subjects in class periods of 35 minutes each, the numbers of periods for each subject are scheduled in a time table from 7:50am 1:50 pm, Monday to Friday. Examination Specifications and Grades For the Annual Examination, 100% syllabus of the subject will be covered. Note: Class IX annual Examinations is conducted by the school whereas Class X students appear for National Level Examinations conducted by CBSE. 3 Classes XI and XII Curriculum: As per the CBSE scheme of studies, the students take two years of the same subjects in the higher secondary i.e. year XI and XII. Each student is required to opt for one compulsory language at the core level along with four electives. The school offers these four subjects under three streams; Science. Humanities and Commerce. 4 Classes XI and XII Examination Specifications and Grades Each academic session begins in the month of April. Two rounds of Unit Tests are conducted through the year. The first round is completed before the Half-Yearly Examination in September- October and the second round between October and February. The Annual Examinations are conducted at the end of the session in March. The weightage, in the Annual Report, of the tests and examinations conducted during the year, is as follows: Unit Test 1 10% Half Yearly Examination 30% Unit Test 2 10% Annual Examination 50% The final report card shows aggregate marks in all subjects calculated as per the above weightage. Promotion Policy for XI Pass Marks in each subject is 33%. A student has to get at least 33% in the theory of the Annual Examination, Half Yearly Examination and Unit Tests. In subjects having Practical/Projects, students are required to pass in theory and practical/projects separately with 33% aggregate marks. 5 EXAMINATION SPECIFICATIONS AND RANKING The All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) is held from March to April of class 12. It is a national level examination conducted at the same time in all CBSE schools of India. The school also conducts Mid Year Examinations and Pre Board Examinations to monitor the formative growth of the students. The predicted grades are based on the super score/grade of each subject of the 11 th grade aggregate marks and the performances in the unit tests in grade 12 th with one upgradation in positional grade.
