2 Promotion Criteria: For middle school students to be promoted to high school, students are required to pass 3 middle school, year long courses: English Math Science Social Studies One of these social studies courses must be Civics. There is a statewide, standardized end-of-course exam for Civics that must be taken and factored in as 30% of a student s course grade.

3 Students that are failing and/or failed any of the 4 core courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) will be given the opportunity to meet the requirements of the course(s) through Florida Virtual School.

4 The PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test The PSAT/NMSQT is a preparatory version of the SAT exam, testing juniors in reading, writing and math. The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes long. It basically helps students practice for the SAT. The PSAT is a terrific way for students to familiarize themselves with the structure, content and process of taking the SAT and get a sense of how they will perform on the actual exam. The scores can show which subjects the student may not be particularly strong in, regardless of the grades in the related classes. It is also used to determine eligibility for scholarships awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

5 Why is The PSAT important? The PSAT 10 is another practice SAT. It has SAT question types and the same content: Reading, Writing and Math. But the PSAT 10 is specifically designed for sophomores, whereas the PSAT/NMSQT is written with juniors in mind. Both test are SAT practice tests. That means both are shorter that the "real SAT but contain similar question types to help the student prepare for it. The timing on both tests is also the same. The PSAT 10 will never qualify a student for the National Merit Competition, only Juniors can take the PSAT/NMSQT and qualify for the scholarships, if they get a high enough score.

9 Students must earn a passing score on the Grade 10 ELA statewide standardized assessment. Students must earn a passing score on the Algebra I EOC Students are required to take a full course through Florida Virtual School A minimum of 40 community service hours must be earned and submitted Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 unweighted scale

10 Scholar Diploma Designation Earn 1 credit in Algebra II Pass the Geometry, Biology and US History EOC Earn 1 credit in statistics or an equally rigorous math course Earn 1 credit in Physics or Chemistry Earn 1 credit in a course equally rigorous to chemistry or physics Earn 2 credits in the same world language Earn at least 1 credit in AP, IB, AICE or a dual enrollment course
