6 Social Studies Credits There are only two endorsements that require four years of social studies: World Geography World History US History Government & Economics All others require three social studies credits: World Geography OR World History US History Government & Economics

7 HOWEVER. Four-year colleges and universities WANT to see all four years of social studies credits. We encourage all students to take all four years of social studies for this reason. 9 th Grade - World Geography 10 th Grade - World History 11 th Grade - US History 12 th Grade - Government & Economics

8 Distinguished Level of Achievement Students can earn the distinguished level of achievement by: Completing the Foundation High School Plan with an Endorsement *AND* Receiving credit for Algebra 2 Required to be eligible for Top 10% Automatic Admission in Texas Public Universities

9 Regular vs Advanced Courses Advanced courses (Pre-AP, AP, OnRamps, and Dual Credit) are more challenging: Pace of instruction Depth of study Volume of homework Level of teacher guidance Expectations for organization, maturity, and selfdirection

10 Balance Matters! It s important to balance academic responsibilities and Extracurricular activities Areas of strength and weakness Organizational skills Family, religious, and social commitments

12 What is an endorsement? Program of study that provides students with indepth knowledge of a subject area. Must be selected in 9 th grade. Endorsements are a TEA requirement and have no bearing on college admissions.

15 What is a PGP? PGP = Personal Graduation Plan Four-year plan that details which courses a student will take each year in high school TEA requires that all high school students have a complete PGP on file signed by both the student and parent. PGPs are living documents in pencil on purpose.

17 What has to be completed: Name, Grad Year Plans after graduation Grad Plan Endorsement Courses and signatures!

18 Course Selection Students will not receive a choice sheet as they have in the past. Students will make their course selections for 9th grade based on their PGP.

Ms. LHJH for 8 th grade student course selection during English classes. Ms. LHJH for 8 th grade wrap up. Completed and signed PGPs due. Turn in to English teacher or Mrs. McVan at LHJH. Do not bring them to the high school.
